Footage from GoPro's that are using factory settings look and sound terrible, yes even the new Hero 9 Black. Just by changing a few things in the menu you can make a dramatic improvement to the quality of your next GoPro video whether you're using a Hero 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9. Call them hacks, or just the settings that GoPro should have started with, I'm pumped to show you how good your action camera footage can be. It's easy to do. Let's go.

  • 13:00 Ah this is something lot of people get confused on with RAW audio. Turning this on does nothing to the audio on the video file, it creates a separate audio file next to the video file. Depending on what you set RAW to, it’ll either do zero processing, or give you a slightly less (over) processed result. You’ll have to sync the audio track in post, which is why I normally don’t recommend it for first timers. Another great video otherwise!

    @TrailFeatures@TrailFeatures3 жыл бұрын
    • I'm still confused. If I plan on recording a bike ride, and I don't want the wind to ruin the experience of the video, why would I turn Wind Reduction from auto to off? It seems counterintuitive, but I'm a beginner, so could you maybe explain this to me? Thank you. I also bought a wind muff that covers the entire camera.

      @okletsgo9135@okletsgo91353 жыл бұрын
    • @@okletsgo9135 I'm just now seeing your comment, and you may have figured it out by now, but the electronic wind reduction doesn't sound great. It cuts the audio in weird ways and can make it sound very "thin" or even robotic. Basically, the methodology in this video is to remove the need for electronic wind reduction by using physical wind reduction (via the mini dead cats he puts on). A lot of the time, the tiny bit of wind noise you'll get with the dead cat on will still sound WAY better than the electronic wind reduction doing its thing.

Honestly, your first tutorial for GoPro settings was the most useful thing on the internet, and this is a great update to cover the GoPro 9. My aim has been to share what I see as close as possible to reality, and I feel that has been accomplished. Every time I look at the results after a bit of colour editing, it makes me smile 😁 The wind mufflers do work great! Did you get the idea from Stephen Reid? FYI, Red One Music out of Montreal sells the minis at $18CAD which I consider a fair price! Do you have any tips for reducing breathing noise on these cameras? @ChoozeOneOfficial@ChoozeOneOfficial3 жыл бұрын
    • That has to do which codec you get from youtube: avc1 or VP09. Basically, it means that when you have VP09 you get a better image on youtube. To get this you've got two options. Or you need to get more subscribers and views or upload in 1440p or above. I had the same problem with my videos as well and since I've uploaded in 1440p I automatically get VP09. To check if you have it go to one of your videos, right-click on statistics for nerd and you will see it.

    • I found that when exporting my footage from Adobe Premier editing the KZhead 4k export settings from 1 pass to 2 pass render gave much better results. 1 pass works fine if the footage is stationary, however when you are flying over dirt and past trees the 2 pass method does better and your footage doesn’t end up looking like mud. Also KZhead compresses footage more in 1080p than in 4k, so watching the same footage in 1080 will be more pixilated than watching the same footage at 4k simply due to how much compression KZhead applies.

  • Hey, another great video. Did you use any post production techniques on the comparison videos we see? will the settings still look as good if we're just chucking the footage through GoPro App / Quik or perhaps iMovie on an iPhone? Is there anything we need to do post production to make the most of these settings? Was gutted with a video the other day, we were flat out down the trails, checked the footage and may as well have been walking it and the contrast was horrible... :(

  • Those 24fps on a bike video are far from being "cinematic" and closer to a headache due to all the bad pixely image

      @user-md3je2qq7x@user-md3je2qq7x3 жыл бұрын
    • @@user-md3je2qq7x From Hero 7 onwards they use a single clock rate sensor (30Hz) and the camera interpolates other frame rates (24/25 etc) this is why GoPros own launch videos are always in 30fps. It also helps that most KZhead viewers are using 60hz screens (easy division for the graphics processor).

    • @Northern Amauta 24fps would be cinematic with a 1/24 or 1/48 shutter speed but that doesn't work well with the HyperSmooth stabilisation that you generally want to be on when capturing a bike video. In addition, the lens used in an action camera won't produce "cinematic" footage as everything is in focus and there is no depth of field. The bad pixely image is due to KZhead's compression, not the original footage of the camera. @@slinkytrips Any hint where I can find more about your statement? The one that 30Hz is the native clock and everything else is interpolated? Sounds very strange to me.

      @brother-ql@brother-ql3 жыл бұрын
    • @@brother-ql I believe the pixely and artifacted footage is due to the KZhead video using the AVC codec. @exXplode2 Do you know why this video doesn't utilize the VP9 codec even though its uploaded in 4K?

  • G'day mate, loved the video. On the audio settings, if you're setting it to "Low" then it will do the wind cutout on the video's audio track but the WAV file will have no editing, so you'll end up with all three microphones tracks. This is my preference and then you can dump out any of the mics that sound wrong or just keep the main mic as mono and convert to stereo or whatever you prefer.

    • 24fps actually IS pretty close to what our eyes see, I mean its not like you can compare cameras to eyes anyway since "we dont see in fps" but IF you do.. 24/25 is the way to go, especially with the motionblur it produces if you got the shutterspeed right.
