Hermitcraft is a Minecraft SMP server featuring some of KZhead's best and most talented Minecrafters. The server is Minecraft Vanilla 1.19! This is the ninth season of Hermitcraft, and we will be living in a starter village with our fellow Hermits!

“Scab Castle is backwards!” Funny story… When the imagineers showed Walt Disney the model for the castle for Disneyland, he stared at it, walked around it, then turned it around backwards and said that’s how it should be.
i think it’d be horrible if you ‘accidentally’ ran out of blocks on a few corners and filled it in with something random or nothing at all

Back at the very beginning of the season, TFC mentioned a goal of building an ugly base for the season, so in my mind I think he’s smiling down and laughing at the amazing ugliness of the scabland castle. ❤

This entire season has just been filled with passion projects from everyone. Beef’s TCG, Tango’s Decked Out 2, Jevin’s netherite beacon, Joe’s pinball machine, Scar’s Scarland, Doc’s perimeter, your (and Etho’s) Blue River Raceway, Zed’s Zedvancements, etc. All the collaborations and shenanigans and genuinely amazing accomplishments from everyone. Absolutely unforgettable.

I'm pretty sure this is a Dadaist version of Scarland, Dadaism is often considered anti-art, and Scabland follows proudly in that tradition. A few notes: I'm pretty sure using the Gigachopper was faster than converting concrete manually and didn't wear out any tools. Also, I'm so happy you did much of the concrete powder in place, then converted it on-site!

Scarland was supposed to be a safe place to visit, so the exact opposite would be a dangerous place to visit. Let the mobs spawn. Heck, name tag them and put a glass roof in the sky to protect them from burning in the daytime!
You should totally just leave the castle dark and make it its own mini game where you have to survive for as long as possible
But that's just Scarland... Scabland is the opposite so no mob farms xD
The torches are perfect too because scar always hides his lighting well.

Ren, a rule suggestion for the catch up mechanic. You can pass other racers with wings but you cannot pass the leader. If you pass the leader, you have to let that racer pass you back. Also, you have to cross the finish line in a boat, no wings.
You should bring scar around for a tour of scabland, would be fun seeing his brain actually melt from the sight =P
the castle being backwards is actualy rather accurate. the disney castle was actualy turned around due to Walt prefering the look if the back of the castle to the front of it. so i say keep it backwards

Scab land sounds like an amazing artistic challenge actually. Your building skills probably largely improved after making a mega build as anti aesthetic as possible
The Scabland castle being backwards is a work of pure genius. If you happen to find yourself in this vile land, then all your thoughts are on leaving to the beautiful world outside. Hence the entrance is the exit.

0:18 to 0:24 was actually really impressive mouse movement. Almost exact 180 degrees into almost exact 90 degrees turn. I had to check the frames that it wasnt edited.
The castle looks terrible and the scabland project has been a fantastic and weirdly exciting project to watch unravel. Also pumped for the grand prix! Between the tedium of scabland and the construction of the raceway, the grind has been nuts recently, so giant kudos for that.

As a person with OCD, the paths need a few of the arrows randomly pointing in the wrong direction. Just a few pointing in another direction than the main direction.
You should totally talk to some other builders on the server like Pearl, Tango, and Grian and ask them what is their biggest pet peeve when it comes to building. What just makes them want to lean over and hurl? Then add that to Scab land. At the very least I think it would make for some entertaining interactions :D
The Scabland castle looks unironically good when viewed from Doc's perimeter.
I think Scabland sorta enhances the Perimeter in a humorous way. It reminds me of a big archeological dig site like the Giza Necropolis or the ruins of Pompeii, and then just down the street there's a massive corporate city that just clashes with the themes. If you see what Im thinking.
Ren, the warden is an old prank done to Scar near beginning of the season. He just didnt want to have to deal with it, so left it there.
I can honestly say that I like your timelapse music more than other hermits. Its just so catchy. Also, you should make the people wrap around the castle to the backside to enter and make them exit right into the people queueing to enter.

Everyone loves Scarland, but I think we all understand Scablands is a joke among friends and not Ren mocking Scarland. Scabland is such a fun idea and the castle looks great
this castle needs to be covered in just randomly placed windows that don't match, are all different sizes and styles and just create a giant window polka dot pattern

Ren, I know there have been people giving you a hard time about this project, but I just wanted to tell you that I absolutely love it! There's something very inspiring about a builder as talented as yourself purposefully making something ugly and being proud of it that really speaks to me as a fellow creative. That not only is making mistakes on my creations okay, but I made something! Even if it's terrible, I made it, which makes it amazing anyway. Thanks for sticking with this Ren, it is much appreciated.

Super excited for the Grand Prix! I also think that the overwhelming need to "fix" anything in Scabland means you nailed it. It truly is a monstrosity of the most epic proportions, and you should be proud!
The fact that your castle is backwards makes Scabland Castle is closer to Disney’s Magic Kingdom Castle because it is built backward as well!
Hey Ren! I think the rocket dispensers should be on a counter to ensure they benefit only those who are way behind in the race. Also moving the dispensers ahead a block could help prevent multiple from dispensing, which could be OP.
likeing this to hope it gets seen, you must of also notice that with that setup second place is still considered behind and will get a rocket or two...

I can say with pure honesty that with how chaotic Scabland is, where nothing is symmetrical and everything is crazy, it looks amazing!!

Am I wrong in thinking that Scar really appreciates Minecraft rollercoasters? Itd be really quite funny if you had the time to create a surprisingly great rollercoaster to contrast with how scab land looks. Idk if scar is planning on building a rollercoaster or not but itd be funny if he's expecting an awful one but it turns out to be the best. It's a lot of work though so it doesn't really matter 😂

The color styling of the castle reminds me of the color block sweater I'm knitting to use to random odd balls. No texture, simple silhouette, pure solid colors. The most exciting part is when the old ball runs out and I get to change color.

Scab Castle being backwards with a wonky exit/entrance is so much in the spirit of ScabLand that I thought it was intentional before Ren pointed it out. I feel that any error in the construction of ScabLand just makes it that much more of a genuine experience and should be embraced! Well done, Ren!

I find it sad that none of the other Hermits were willing to build a game in the park. Some of them just have a hard time focusing on one series or just give up on a series when another one catches their eye. I’m glad that Ren has stuck with it.

I think you should add an interior to the castle. A one and a half block tall corridor ending in a dead-end or near death drop into a hole with no exit would do

Ren, I miss you in the life series so much! not only are your episodes fun and thrilling (the Red Army perspective is my favorite perspective of all the series), but you were such a PVP beast. You are, right now, tied for total kills with ETHO. who had been in ALL FIVE SERIES, you have been in TWO. you came in second already once. if you played all five, you probably would have won by now for real!
The horrors of this entire build are, conceptually, the funniest thing to me. I love it.
Also, if you ever do a multi-lap race, you could have the dispensers sometimes drop Cobwebs instead of rockets, to slow and foil people behind you.

Not only is it a shame that scab land finished for no final debut to other hermits, but we all can agree that scar land didn’t reach its potential. Don’t get me wrong, they’re both awesome! But either way, me and the community are satisfied with what we have, and I know that throughout what we’ve been through since the start of the season, we’ve all been very proud of what you and the other hermits have accomplished. Thank you for making these past few years been a roller coaster ride to remember, and we can’t wait for season 10 has in store for us!
the castle being backwards is perfect, the archway though... don't think it is asymmetrical enough... punch away the lower left block(viewed from inside the castle) and you have perfection! 🤣 poor doc though who have to see that thing everytime he admire his gorgeous murals and see the castle peer over the rim of the perimeter! 😆edit: btw Ren, you don't need that many torches these days, one every 14-15 blocks are enough, mobs only spawn in light lvl 0!

in Mariokart, we call it "Bagging"; I recommend you do what you can do avoid this with your rocket points. Basically, Bagging is when you intentionally lag behind just a little to get good items, then take a bunch of shortcuts and throw yourself into first. Now, you don't exactly have the equivalent of Superstars and The Ghost, so I doubt Bagging would be a legitimate strategy in BRR. If it *does* turn out that way, though, I think it'd be really cool if there were loops or rings in the air that you would have to fly through.
Is it bad I actually think the place looks fine? It looks like a kid's colouring book, the roads look like it is going to suffer a rendering issue lol, the platforms sort of a mosaic. Wow!! Congratulations to Jevin for that beacon. Feels like there needs to be some grand ceremony for that.

Scabland castle being backwards just adds to the jank of scabland. I love it.
Possibly the coolest thing about Scabland is that you can just go "...eh..." and give up halfway through and it'll look masterfully thought out to be as ugly as possible. Leave concrete powder un-solidified, chest monsters everywhere, no mobproofing, some corners missing, some roofs half-completed.. it's fine, you're telling a story of a half-assed ripoff making bucks off of people not catching a typo on their ticket site!
The super fast build mode music was a nice touch.
I can totally see foresee etho incorporating the rockets into his strat, like maybe purposefully staying in second to build up rockets for the final stretch
Excellent work Ren! Both on the castle and the raceway. It's so fun watching this all unfold. One thing I think would be fun to see with the castle, is just random blocks not being the correct ones on the pillars or the windows. Nothing huge, but just noticeable enough from a glance that makes you question if you're lookin at it right or not.
