And this year, around Grain Rain, I went tea picking before the best season is gone.
Then I roasted green tea and scented some with flowers!
For me, drinking tea is as much of high art as everyday life--

  • The tea table with flowing water is a symbol of a traditional folk custom (曲水流觞）of the Han ethnicity in ancient China, which later developed into a kind of elegant thing for literati to sing poems and wine. On the third day of March in the lunar calendar, people hold the Shangsi festival. After the ceremony, everyone sat on both sides of the river and placed wine cups on the upper stream. The wine cups went down the river. Whoever stopped in front of the river would take a drink, which meant to get rid of misfortune. This kind of traditional history is very old, can be traced back to the early Western Zhou Dynasty

  • In all her videos she teaches us that life can be enjoyed in the simplest form and with all the simplest things around us. You do not have to say so much to be loud and be heard. Silence speaks volumes. She shows us love in all her food preparations and making her Grandma feel like a Queen being treated with special care. I just love her videos. Brings healing and blessings.

And the most important is，the last fragment which has the meandering water inside the table，is very common among literati groups in ancient China，often accompanied by poetry，is a very romantic presentation.   • The table reflects two Chinese cultural traditions: (1) a drinking game, with cups flowing in a winding river (流觞曲水); (2) penjing (盆景), known as an art of depicting artistically formed plants and landscapes in miniature. They are classical Chinese romance.

  • The tea table is inspired by a popular drink party setting among the poets a few thousands of years ago. It is called 流觞曲水. They would make circulating canals beside a river, water gets in from one opening and let out in another end, (I don’t know the exact mechanism), creating a ever circulating flow within the circled canal. The poets would put liquor on a floating plate, and whenever the liquor passes in front an individual, that person could pick it up, make a poetry at the moment, drink it, then place it back to the canal. Then the poets would spend time talk more about everything until someone got inspired and makes more poetry. At the end of the party, someone would document all the poetry that was composed at the party and make it into a book to share with other people. It was quite an elegant and popular event.

    • This tradition is survived in today's Kyoto Japan. I'm not sure if I should say survived because the event becomes a show and a tourist attraction. I attended the event once, and it still made me wondered about what was described in 兰亭集序 1700 years ago.

  • The inspiration of this table comes from a poem of the NanChao (420 A.D.) period where it depicts scholars enjoyed their dining under the moonlight next to a small stream from the nearby tavern, while dishes of fine wines and cuisines were prepared upstream in the kitchen and carried by water to the guests by floating lacquer plates. Very romantic, very beautiful.

  • 李子柒出的每一个视频都是精品，其中能看得出她和她团队的认真敬业。纵使总有一些人去剖析她背后是什么资本团队，哪个镜头借用了什么素材或者科技手段，却都不能抵毁她视频的优美，内容的丰富，以及从拍摄角度传达出的对待生活的豁然之心。虽然她们基本一个月才出一个视频，实在有点看不够，但想想应该是她对质量要求很高，所以我就接着不断循环看之前的视频吧，看多少遍都觉得还是很新鲜，每一个镜头都是那么美好。

  • I have read so much about you. That when your grandmother was sick you decided to come to village and that every struggle in city was for food and you worked hard and really hard posted this video's across every social platforms and with nobody to play and that camera was personified to be a companion and the place that was dry was changed to a bliss and that is patience and in such a place when the videos became famous going out to capture more videos would have been difficult and love that courage and that perseverance that coming itself can be shown in a different way not just cooking alone. It took years without any support to reach this level and those struggles and the change of the place to heaven. I don't know when I will come out and this is the place I want to spend, and when became famous those comments by people that nothing is done alone and so many are part of it and then painful reply to them and continued to work with resilience. I literally admire everything about you and I know everything about you but I will not rewrite that in a different way. I only wish I could see more videos

  • After a few times visiting China, my husband loves drink tea and has his own tea sets for different teas in different tea ceremonies. His biggest wish is to have his own tea room with his tea pot collection and a real tea table similar like the one in this video with tea friends. Sadly the culture we live is still alcohol base. His only tea friend is so far only me.

    • U can try to make this table with him, if u have time for tea ceremony u would have time to do this, it would be a good time & memory. And this table not only for tea, it could be use to serve coffee with your coffee mate, or for alcohol buddy. Ancient Chinese also use it to serve wine.

    • That's "曲水流觞"，it is a traditional custom in ancient China. In ancient times, people were sitting around the stream, and exquisite food passed down along the winding stream. People were drinking tea while composing poems. The one in the video is a modern improved version, which is smaller.You may want to google “曲水流觞”，there're some ancient Chinese paintings about it.

  • So nice to see that some things from the old days still remain: trading food for food. Thats the way it was before money was invented. I also wonder about the treatment of the freshly picked tea. Is this how it is fermented? The mix with all these blossoms must smell awesome. I would also spend a lot of time in the rose garden wandering from rose to rose and smelling each of the blossoms. The air there must be fragrant with their blooms. So nice to see visitors at Lizqis house. I am willing to bet that this self made tea mix tastes way better than the tea we can get here in Germany. That table with the water garden in the middle is awesome!

    • Yea, the Japanese tea ceremony is actually learned from China during the Song Dynasty. So was panzai and gold fish cultivation.m, as well as their traditional architecture.
