Once Grand Abandoned Blue Bell Plantation House Down South built in 1856

This beautiful old farm house was built in the mid 1800’s around 1850-1856, in a small once thriving community in the early twentieth century. Built for a modestly wealthy agrarian family who farmed cotton, timber, and other crops. In the early 1900’s the house was expanded in the back and given a large wraparound porch in the front. Over the years the house had subsequent updates and remodels over the years but still retains much of its original character. Apparently a man was attempting a restoration in the 1990’s but passed away before could finish. Now this old destitute relic of days gone by sits shelled and lonely, rotting in its copse of trees along the road, brooding on the passing world. Hope you enjoy. Like and leave a comment below if you enjoyed the video! Thank you!

  • Kappy, I`ve noticed with a lot of the houses you visit, it always seems like the older part in the front is still in reasonably good shape but the new additions on the back are rotting and falling in. I guess it just shows the difference between the way things were built in the old days compared to now. Great job by the way, I really liked this one.

  • The Whitman Piano Manufacturing Company, Inc., was owned and controlled by The Weydig-Henkelman Corporation of New York. Founded in 1880 by Peter Weydig (President) and George Henkelman (Vice President), the firm of Weydig-Henkelman was first located at 133rd & Brown Place, New York City. By the 1920’s the firm was located at 402-410 West 14th Street, New York City. The firm built good quality yet affordable pianos under the brand names of “Weydig-Henkelman”, “Whitman”, “Becker & Sons”, and “Radi-O-Player”, a player piano equipped with a large radio built into the upper portion of the cabinet. Ironically, with the increasing popularity of the radio and phonograph taking place of the American piano market for home entertainment, Whitman/Weydig-Henkelman went out of business in 1926.

  • Oh my.... at 12:33 you show the old Singer sewing machine. I worked in the factory that built those cabinets. Singer built the sewing machines in Truamnn Arkansas for 50 years or more (probably 75 years) and there was the Parson's Cabinet Factory in Osceola Arkansas where I worked one summer while in high school and we built the cabinets for the machines. When Singer closed down, Parson's cabinet factory closed.

Damage can be assessed, it can be updated for modern times during the repair but the look the feel other then the necessary updates she can undergo a full restoration and be sold to people who'd wanna love her and raise a family in her walls. Beautiful lady of a house, if I was rich I'd do the work and move in.

  • I don't know how you find these places, but I'm glad you do. It looks to me like the addition on the back of this place wasn't the quality of the rest of the house. Hence the kitchen and dining room ceiling fell. Woodwork was pretty all throughout. That wrap around porch would be my go to for relaxation. Big ole cup of coffee, just watching birds, maybe take my crochet out there, or a good book. That porch would be a great place for a Mother's Day "my time". Tell your mother Happy Mothers day! Thanks for taking me along Mr Kappy! 😊

Small rural towns like this may not appeal to the big city folks, but I enjoy traveling through and seeing the different buildings. In this day of high costs of living, I would love to save up to live in a small town like this where it's more affordable.

  • Loved the outside of the home. In it's heyday, it was the talk of the town. Sad that a few antiques left inside of it. The furniture other than the dresser in one room reminded me of the furniture to a bedroom set from the 80's. But the other furniture (other than sewing machine) looked older, maybe from the 1900's down to the 1930's. The piano, was my favorite, the cords must be all gone. The keys looked okay. Nice job, and the stairwell, I could imagine a beautiful young lady in a ball dress standing at the top of those stairs with it's curved feature. To bad the rails were painted over. It could have been Mahogany or even Oak. The fireplaces just as beautiful with the ornate Greek style. Oh my, so many lovely homes abandoned and rotting away, destroyed by natural elements and some people breaking into. Thank you Sir, for this adventure you take us on!

It's better to refinish it rather than painting it. Another favorite for me is the staircase railing and the way is so smoothly wraps around. • This house looks like someone was trying to restore it or strip it and became involved in something else and the house got left behind without being finished. What a beautiful place large rooms that are airy, the only I found interesting is the bathroom on the landing, you had to step up or down to it. lol Thanks for sharing and you have a great day and safe travels

  • i love this place. So beautiful. I didn't get any bad vibes from it either. Was the bad roof and decay from the back of the house? Thank you Kappy. You made my day.

  • Beautiful old home. The piece of furniture that you referred to as beautiful is from the early 1990’s. I had the whole bedroom suite! I loved it! The main doorway and front porch is so pretty!

  • The house looks beautiful from the exterior. Lovely proportions. Beautiful verandah, sweet carved hearts. Extension on the back is oddly done. Hard to see for all the mess! Some odd juxtapositions. The fireplace mantels look very primitive for this fine home!
