One of eight drills I like to use to train the split step for serve reception.
If we can get a conscious read and a quicker, more dynamic 'push' towards the serve, I believe we will be incredibly successful in passing both float and jump serves.

  • Can the split step be used in places other than serve receive?

  • Why is the 2nd and 3rd step going back? I’ve never done this as a libero and the examples shown don’t do this either. The split step should have a slight forward movement, not forward and back.

    • Prep step (forward) and then when you jump and the front/back foot just recalibrate in the middle - as we might have to move forward, back or to the sides. Hope this helps my friend.

    • What is the purpose of the 1st step forward? I want to understand it, and not just know how to do it.

    • Timing and because very often someone doesn't take the first step, they don't split.@@mrmuhtish
