Why Russian media is turning on its military | The Listening Post

Inside Russia, the narrative around the "war" is changing. The pro-war Putin-faithful are grappling with defeats they never expected and generals are taking the flak from public figures, loyalists on state TV channels, and even military bloggers.

On our radar:
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei finally broke his silence on the protests that have shaken the country for weeks. Producer Flo Phillips analyses Khamenei’s speech - key parts of which he also tweeted - and the repercussions it has had at home and abroad.
Russia: National myths and rewriting history:
Last year, the Kremlin published an essay - in Vladimir Putin’s name - arguing that Russians and Ukrainians are of the same Slavic nation. This new historical discourse has been key in the narrative built around the invasion of Ukraine. Producer Tariq Nafi looks into the battle over historical memory in Russia.

  • If the UK is the root of all evil, why did the Russian Foreign Minister send his daughter to school here? Why do so many Putin oligarchs live here? I think the guy on Russian TV who said that needs a visit to the Lubyanka.

Beating a teenager to death for not covering herself to their nebulous standard is absurdly excessive, and definitely isn't something anyone wants to be exacted on their own daughters. It's rare that the ayatollah finds himself at odds with his base supporters. He's hoping that pointing to the US as fanning the flames will make people see the girl's death as minor.

Let alone the people of Russia. “ State Narrative creates the myth in peoples mind”! That quote is so true ( sorry if I missed a couple words when repeating it). Saying without Stalin they wouldn’t have won WW2, he almost lost the Soviet Union because of his late responses and decisions to fire anyone who could be a threat to him as leader, including all generals who knew war from WW1, and without them left his military with inexperienced leaders(Hitler did this too). Sounds a lot like what Putin is doing now. Which is what Those obsessed with Power & never losing it will do. Their paranoia about anyone and everyone unfortunately have no limits.

Putin is not stupid even though he publicly constantly talks about the delusional Russian superiority he knows that if push came to shove NATO would absolutely crush and dominate all the Russian forces in Ukraine to put them back to reality and show the world what happens if you use nuclear weapons offensively, on top of that NATO would bomb key military targets back to the stoneage, unleash a big offensive cyberwar and of course use practically the hardest most overwhelming economic actions possible. And no Russia would not have any allies left at all if they used nuclear weapons like that, as accepting them as an ally would be to accept and approve of the bullshit desperate annex-territory-you-don't-fully-control which could easily backfire (imagine India annexing (Russia style) the LAC so now China has to back off because India could use nukes defensively). We see this one life is far more significant because of hijab topic. It is obvious that you are here for hijab not life. I wondered why did you choose to come out using that woman's death? It is the first woman ever recorded died due to hijab and you like that one time is opportunity of life time. So you come out because you do not get chances like this.
