Drifting and Racing in Forza Horizon 5 using both Controller and a Steering Wheel to test out which feels better. I am using PS4 controller and T300 wheel. I knew how the wheel would handle but controller surprised me big time in a good way. Feels like FH5 is mainly focused on controller players.

Steering wheel

Always a pc 🤙🔥❤️
Change steering to standard from simulation. Simulation setting is really only used for the wheel. You’ll be able to drift with one hand on the controller
I really liked the Sim version tho, you counter steer realistically this way, but yea I guess Standard would be more relaxed gameplay.
@@Goosiest yep, I like how it lets the game be as hard or as easy as you want. Low barrier to entry but high skill ceiling
standard to simulation barely makes any difference at all. At least not on controller
@@whobedankeykang9856 Yeah I thought FH4 & 5 had a high skill ceiling as well, until I played Forza Motorsport 7. That one is EVEN better!
@@whobedankeykang9856 dude honestly I hate the mountain touge thing bc of how long it is and how it’s just one route I feel like it’s more fun in the big cities/towns or just in that jungle area
I prefer Wheel because it feels better to use, it's definitely more difficult especially because going from one extreme angle to another in an instant is slower on a wheel but the feel of it is so much more satisfying. I haven't been able to play on a controller ever since I got my wheel.
Fair enough!
@@Goosiest my cat is goose
Its because of the arcade component in game. If you turn the wheel fast from left to right in a real car or a good sim you'll get spun in many cases. So you need to play with gas/brake and also catch your car with a little opposite steering move - that can't be handled on a gamepad.
There's an inch of movement on the controller but so much more on the wheel - it's much easier to be accurate and dial in the fine angles with a wheel. The controller is good for the hacking about of Rally driving or even Drift but not so great for tracks, high speed corners or aero heavy setups, imo. The speed with which we can switch from full lock is only a compensation for error (in practical use) - it doesn't help make the time as such, just save losing more.. Ultimately they both have benefits and negatives and both of those will vary from user. I'd say controller for Arcade games and wheel for those trying for physics beyond NFS.
With a controller I can nail crazy fast unrealistic drifts and it got easy rather fast because it was all I ever used for years. Now with a wheel it is a much more realistic feel and that gives everything a more realistic speed and approach. Its much more difficult but getting the hang of it is so much more satisfying to pull off than it ever was on controller
I'm new to this channel but I only just realized the duck is the handbrake 😂 firmly grasp it by the hand 😂
goose : "i've always struggled with hypercars" *procceeds to bring a ferrari to an offroad race*
A wheel is useful when you want a realistic play, but controller is for racing (for me) it's really helpful when turning
Totally agree!
My cat is goose
Just in forza though In other games like F1, Asseto Corsa, iRacing, or simulators like that, wheel is 1000x better, and sometimes even easier
Realistic play in forza is non-existent.. it's an arcade game bro nothing more
@@N8_B you realize all arcade racing games had wheels right lmao I mean that's literally how you played them at the arcade
Just thought I'd mention this, it is easier to control your car if you are in first person perspective. It lets you see directly in front of the car and thus allows you to more precisely maneuver it along a corner. It is harder to see your sides, but its a fair compromise IMO
I can’t race in third person. The perspective does not agree with my head, I need to be in first person.

The controller gets MUCH better if you change the analog stick's sensitivity curve from linear to cubic or something like that. I use a PS5 controller on PC, so I had to change it on DS4win. This setting allows you to get smaller angles in-game for a given angle on the joystick (while also allowing you to get the full range of steering).
Bro THANK YOU for this
How to do this on pc with xbox controller? W8
How change linear to cubic?
@@apriliantisubarna5868 Go to the edit profile tab from the top menu. Then on the right column there are 5 tabs. Axis config is the first tab. Go there, and half way down there is Output Curve. Click the drop down selection and choose cubic.
I love goosiest! But mostly watching the compilations ❤
I've found it easier to control angles if you pull the left stick back and steer using the joystick border, rocking it to the left or right for which direction you need

Lower the dead zone of the joysticks on the controller as much as you can and it will let you make more precise turns, but if you have a broken joystick if will drift by itself so you might have to keep it turned up
Awesome video! And from experience I can say it is pretty difficult to drift with a controller, but very rewarding!
In my opinion, wheel for realistic experience, controller for racing and it’s much easier to drift. Controllers have the advantage of completely being able to turn the car quickly which is pretty much what you need in Fh5 and nfs
Me too
Goose, Just saying. You have got me through a lot of the times i get bored in life. If i ever get bored, you just instantly upload. Thank You Goosiest For Making All These Videos❤❤
2:18 you have to adjust the deadzones for controllers to minimize car sway without steering input. I can drift perfectly fine with controllers its the throttle control that sometimes gets me
Does it help any if you don’t push the paddle (accelerate button) down as much
@@Andrew110 depends on the dead zone but those are capacitive triggers and already way too sensitive too I like the ps5 controllers resistive triggers which would be perfect for forza! It’s hard to keep the triggers on Xbox half depressed. Check it out on how light of a touch it takes to get car moving
Set your accel and decel deadzone fron 0 - 100 . Your trigger will then be a value from 0-100 on throttle & brakes , much easier to control drifting or cruising
Our goat goosiest keep up the good work and i love your vids and im huge fan❤❤❤
Haha, this was awesome to watch. You're very entertaining, and that's honestly difficult to pull off well.
Hey, thanks!
I use both. Wheel for cruising and street races. Controller for drifting and dirt races. Simulation steering for both. Controller allows for MUCH faster correction than wheel. Which is more fun? Wheel and H shifter.
I played fh5 with a controller at launch because my racing wheel wasn't moved over here yet, and it's for sure an OP device just because you never have to fight the thing. but i absolutely cannot race without my racing wheel now, it's a true joy to use and if i don't wanna sweat it out, I'll just rock a different game. i got the ps5 specifically so I could play gran turismo 7 with the tgt2 and now I'm really digging god of war lmao
Gt7 looks pretty good man, really wanna rock a gran turismo game someday
@@joaopaulogalloclaudino9671 it truly is my game of games. i put 4000 miles on track in my first two weeks of owning the system lmao. I played gt3 on the ps2 waaaaaaaaay back in the day and from that day on, i was hooked on how gran turismo feels on the digital road. forza does a pretty good job don't get me wrong, but it just doesn't click the same way gran turismo has for me over the years. i'd say if you can get your hands on any of the previous playstations at a cheap price, go for it just for the gran turismo experience.
@@jn1211 yeah i had a ps2 with a gt4 copy when i was young but never paid too much attention to it, i loved the soundtrack but the game felt so boring and slow paced to the kid myself who played shooters and beat em ups. i have a medium spec pc now and i am looking forward for emulating gt4. Ive played forza 5 on xcloud too, but i had lag issues as ot was streamed to me and the game felt too "plastic" for me, i am having lots of fun with old needs for speed nowadays but i really wanna dig sims as soon as i get my setup right
This video had me laughing so hard 😂. Great video +1subscription
Thanks for the sub!
New to this channel, and it was bloody fun to listen to. "Who put a house there" - lmfao :D
For me, the difference between the two is realism. If you want accuracy and want to drive like a real car, then steering wheel. But if you want a faster response and do extra things like jumps that you wouldn't want to do in real life, controller.
I think you should set the steering difficulty settings "normal" for controller and "simulation" on steering wheel. The "simulation" settings for controller for most people is just too responsive, turn10 does a great job with that auto-adjusting for joystick input in normal settings. although it could be not responsive enough for several people. And one more thing, i suggest you to use an Xbox Series X/S controller bcs they have that rumbling feedback on the trigger buttons (i forgot the name) that really helps in giving you information when you throttling, drifting, lose traction, and braking. I don't know if this is also applied in PS5 DualSense with their adaptive feedback.
Haptic feedback, but what is likely more relevant is the triggers being better on any xBox controller than any PS controller.
The way he was driving that hypercar off-road was hilarious to me because it's actually not that difficult just got to know exactly how much throttle to give it
1:18 🤣🤣 Me starting sim racing wondering why I’m so tired at night now.
Controller is just more competitive and easier to control the car in this game specifically. However in B class using a wheel can be very strong when driving FWD cars. I’ve only seen a few people race well on wheel
b class fwd is hard to beat someone on wheel
On the controller take the left analog stick and push it forward. Then rock it back and forth instead of hard left and hard right like you're doing. That allows you to make very very precise movements and able to hold exact angles.
I thought I was the only one that did this! Use it like a mini steering wheel lol
I recently learned this technique and it is an absolute game changer for controller
I think i learned this type of steering from playing GTA lmao
Love your vids. Don't know why I was not subscribed? I am an iRacer, that is my jam. I just picked up this game to mess around and kick back on the couch with a controller. To not think and just dink around a bit. It is absolutely fantastic for that. (I also am a wheel gamer, and m&kb for most titles. Rare I play anything with a controller but this game nails it!)
Welcome aboard!
I love that you play Forza, a XBox/pc game, with a PS4 controller, and a wheel for Gran Turismo, a PS exclusive game
You can roll the joystick to be smoother when drifting, it takes a while to get used to though.
Yes but it will always be smoother on wheel no matter what
While steering wheel is quite fun,I think controller is the best when it comes down to casual play.
Good quality channel one of my favorite entertainera keep it up
Some of the reviews you gave the controller is in my opinion underrated because sadly I already used one
I’ve been drifting with a controller since the early 2000s and it’s no thing to jump into any of these sims. The only thing that’s not apparent from the start is with the joysticks you have to be very very precise with your input. Little taps and light pressure to hold a line.
or you just smash the stick left and right
@@aidansmith7251 I do that and to drift trucks I use hand break to and people get amazed that I’m drifting a semi
I feel like the steering wheel is extremely useful in certain games, for example, in nascar games a steering wheel would allow you to precisely hold the turn angle and keep your line steady throughout turns, but for other games, the steering wheel isn't really that much more beneficial
it gives more control so its a much deeper experience, its not entirely about outcomes
Force feedback is also a very important component for more realistic games like ac and gt7
When I used to cane forza 4 on Nurburgring my better times were with the steering wheel. I feel you can put more precise inputs in but it was pretty intense. Just got kids (me) a wheel set up for Christmas so forza will be on over the holidays!!
You're so good at drifting on a controller bro! Best controlelr drifter i know

Love the way he chokes the goose while pulling the handbrake ❤😂😂
As someone who’s never played on wheel or keyboard, and only on controller, the main downside is if you want to have manual with clutch and telemetrics (I’m ortty sure that’s what it is) I had to change it to be pretty wacky controls because they made literally almost every button required or it won’t work, so you must assign everything to a button (I was most annoyed by quick chat and map buttons being required) and you can’t use a normal setup, I had to set rewind to right stick up 😭 and telemetry next/last to left stick ip/down They made it so it mostly has to be completely at that spot though so I almost never accidentally rewind or switch telemetry modes but I can’t look around as well. Also here’s a top for Xbox players, if you play with cloud gaming it will lag, and if you drift you can turn on cockpit drift camera in hud and gameplay settings, only helps if you play in cockpit/first person camera
both devices have the same function... to drive the car. but the steering wheel is cooler because of the immersion proposed by it! great video, goose.
They are very different. They might have the same function, but it's executed differently for sure.
What immersion? Spending 2 hours on settings? Nah f that. Feels awful
ngl fh's are not rlly created for wheels, but it depends on ppl playing the game tho
true
The old school charger you get is actually a good car to use it handles beautifully if you tweak it
I have a wheel g29 for gran turismo but come one, for Mario kart, nothing beats the controller and turning the controller on angles, so satisfactory for hardcore
My car spins out for no reason when I try using my wheel.
Fr I really want to learn how to drift in beaming or forza but it's just too difficult and I have no one to coach me
You can tune the suspension and the antiroll bars in a way that the car doesn’t wiggle as much, probably even no wiggling Edit: in offroad races be gentle with the throttle in cars that have no grip 😊
havent played forza but in general when it comes to racing games pushing up when steering with a controller will help you be more accurate; i guess you can treat it as the wheel that way
I love it when you say "oh goodness"
Pedestrian skills. Now try driving on a touge.
All your videos are dope mane
I love and respect the lack of bias in your ratings
hyper cars are so trippy for example, sometimes you would have the steering wheel which is not straight, but the better skills you have, the better driving with hyper cars you have, but you will get good rewards, goosiest

I enjoyed the video. I just bought a Logitech 920 setup. Could you please make a video as a tutorial, existing how to drift and get curves on races using sport car models, please? (Forza Horizon 5)
With the counter steer wiggle on controller it’s easier to maintain an angle by controlling the revs with the acceleration and braking (l2 and r2 on ps4 controller) it avoids the wiggle
as a controlelr drifter to me in some games if you throw a good whip then all you have to do is just hold the accelerator if your tyres are slick enough
With the spinning out heaps u also need to have good throttle control u can’t just floor all the time especially with a Ferrari on dirt
That E-brake is amazing.
I love your hand brake
2:09 welcome to the wonderful world of stick drift
I like to race and just cruise with the wheel. But drifting gets a little crazy on the wheel unless you change all the setting so I usually grab controller for drift zones.
Steering with a controller I never just go left right, exactly because its difficult to peg the right steering angle, I usually push the analog all the way forward and then roll it from left to right, it gives you way more control
It depends on what your more use to. Some wheels react differently. But personally, i use the elite controller. Lets me shift and change the camera angel without having to let off any other buttons. People have actually asked me what wheel im using ha. Only thing, your fingers start to hurt after a while.
Wasn't expecting controller to win But I agree, playing on the couch is more comfortable for Forza^^
Love racing slower car classes on the wheel feels more real
Wheel is harder but definitely more fun You also get a lot more control with wheel (or at least it feels like it when compared to controller
I use the Xbox elite controller on PC, and I do exactly that... Chill on the couch and play this. For the left stick I switch it to the long stick for more range. Shifting, I use the right stick, or bottom paddles. I also do no TC and no assists, but you do have to learn how to be more gentle on the controls. Takes a little practice, but about same amount if you were first using a wheel.
Pulling off j spins on gta5 while firing guns on cop chace on ps5, or just getting a perfect angel. Is smooth.. 👌 Porche is usually the best for offroad and power in exotic or hyper
You did the same track twice, of course the second try you win 😆
I've found that steering wheel is cool in dreiving cars before A800 class, B700 is perfect
Joke's on you, I'm not a casual gamer who goes to the gym, *I'm a casual gamer who works as a landscaper.*
hood cam helps both with gamepad and wheel, do give it a chance, and by that i mean do spend like a couple of hours until you readjust. you'll find yourself winning more
"WHO PUT THIS HOUSE OVER HERE!!!" same bro... same...
I play forza only on controller, and i'm doing only drifting, my settings are full simulation but no damage for the car while driving. Maybe putting little bit of presure on the R2 button might help with the power of the car so you don't do a 360 when you start a race or try to clear a corner, for me it's easier with having the steering in simulation feels better !
The steering wheel connects a lot more your mind to the driving experience of this game it’s for sure
I have a wheel (+pedals and shift) and controller , they are both equal according to your perspective , literally , while using wheel use first person , it look way more real and on controller anything except 1st person is good.
bro i love how you can just cut the course on the race and nothing happens. in gran turismo if your playing campaign it will teleport you back and if you play online your gonna get a penalty
I only drift with controller all the time but with clutch and sim steering, make its smooth turning

Goosie this may be odd but i really enjoy your videos and my cousin as well :) But my cousin is deaf and the sub helps him alot to understand your videos, we love you and keep your content!
I first drove FH5 on wheel. I loved the feel, and I was very good at judging turns and making nuanced moves. However, I bought a controller for Wreckfest. Once I tried controller for FH5, I realized my car was actually faster in a straight line with higher acceleration. This is why I could compete very well on a technical track such as Cathedral, but get left behind on Sprints. Suddenly, I was competitive on higher-speed tracks. Now the bad news. At moderate to high speeds, beginning at about 45 MPH, my wheel allows full lock-to-lock turning, but my controller progressively restricts how far I can turn the front wheels. It doesn't understeer; it simply won't let me turn the wheels very far. I tried racing at Arch of Mulege, and I have to really slow for the turns. My lap times are quite a bit longer. It's very frustrating, and I haven't been playing FH5 since switching to controller. For Wreckfest the controller works perfectly. I've tried all the settings, and no one has been able to give me a solution that works. Do you all know what I'm talking about, and does anyone have a solution?
I’m so jealous of you guys you guys can learn how to drive at a young age with wheel and pedals and shifter🥲

I use sim on controller, works really well. Helps with weight transfer as well
I had a hard time with a old controller too. I’ve bought the Gamesir g7 with their software you can adjust the sticks (in windows) how you please. Game changer imo
I thought this video was great, I loved to watch it and it was amazing. I’m subbing, however I want you to know I’m still gonna get a steering wheel

I think when you was on the hyper car off-road race you needed to let off the throttle because it seemed like you was flooring it :)
goosiest: goes offroad WHO PUT THIS HOUSE OFF THE ROAD
I can't drift with the wheel yet. Only had my wheel for about a year so I tend to do races with the controller but I typically cruise around so wheel for that. But still working out all the settings for the wheel too, so that will help when it's locked down.
I love the "oh my godness" or "cheesus"
Try an Elite Controller next.. Not having ABS or TCS and feeling the braking through the triggers is pretty awesome.
the way bro pulled out a ps4 controller made me laugh so hard
When I started drifting on the controller, the only thing that's difficult for me is the lack of fluidity. Non FD cars don't "ride" on the turns, they just feel tight, which means they're loose. I adapted to handbrake drifting instead of power over, because the game thinks 600hp isn't powerful enough.
i also drift with a controller and im pretty good at it, it all depends on how you tune your car if you have enough hp to wheelspin you have enough to drift i've even got the ford transit van at b class able to drift without massive engine upgrades. if you havent locked your rear differential for a start then thats a big tuning mistake also if you dont play on manual or manual with clutch then its more awkward trying to keep it in the correct gear traction control and stability assist also kill drifting
i thought the easiest way to tune a car to make it driftier is just to increase the rear supension (springs, shock and all) stiffness and decrease the front suspension stiffness?
I used to drift on forza 7 with a controller won so many times. Its all about the tuning.
