How To Pump On A Mountain Bike | Pumptrack Skills To Take To The Trails
Riding pumptracks can be a lot of fun, but one of the best parts is that all the skills you pick up on them lead to free speed when you hit the trails on your mountain bike! Learning to pump rollers and berms, manual through sections, and get confident on jumps will help get you ripping around pumptracks faster than ever, and get you riding trails with extra confidence and pace too. Let Neil and Rich show you the way to get that easy speed!

Do we even have pumptracks in the US?
You DID NOT explain where the Weight came from to PUMP the Bike.. To me, it looks like you "STRAIGHTEN YOUR LEGS" or you "STAND UP" as your REAR WHEEL is traveling Down Wards. By pushing your BODYS Weight Up-WARDS, has an EQUAL OPPOSITE REACTION and creates Downward force to move forward..
I’m glad they mention about it being a workout. I had this perception like it’s supposed to conserve energy. Takes a while getting used to gain momentum without pedaling.
Best description i have heard yet. You nailed it Neil.!
Doing my best to hold back on the pumping innuendo.
Nice one Neil and Rich. Great explanations. Nice riding too.
I love Brit's dry humor. Incredulous about iced tea. 😂 I start my day with green tea and drink Arnold Palmer's the rest of the day. Take that and pump it mate! 😂
The same physics you used when swinging on a swing set as a kid.
Nice video!
Thats a really nice track🔥
Love From India 🇮🇳 Bro❤❤
Id like to see more of the slow mo showing when and at what points you load up the suspension. You can see the movement in the suspension as you load it up so it's a good visualisation tool. It looks like you try to transfer your weight to the front just after the crest before the rear goes over, then load the rear as it goes over deloading the front. Deload both to get up the ramp rinse and repeat.
I have a pump track literally next door, great exercise
Living the dream!
It’s like increasing momentum on a swing. We’ve all been on the swingset and created that momentum.
Best setup for ful suspension trail bike on pupmtrack? Suspension locked and tires over 2.5bar?
If you lock out the suspension on a full suspension bike isn’t as good as or close to a hardtail?
So today i went to my local pump track (also velosolutions, i loved it) and i think this is intuitive but I knew my best laps had no sitting, and no pedalling… is this correct? also i’d love to be able to jump around like that, it looks so cool. Also how fast are y’all going? I was only hitting like 20kmh top speed and it looks like some of these guys are going twice as fast
i went to a pump track earlier today, is it normal to pump most through the real leg or should it be more evened out?
Is there a location for this place?
My local pump track is full of people that take it over and don't let anyone eles use it so I barely to to it tbh
Ugh, sorry to hear that man.
yh it is really annoying my next closest is over a 3 hour bike ride away @@KevinT3141
Why do GMBN always use knobby tyres for urban/concrete? Is it just "that's what's on my bike" or a deliberate/optimal choice?
Brother, it’s the “global mountain bike network”. They’re on mountain bikes, with dirt tires. Nobody’s changing both tires for roadies just for a tarmac pump track
They routinely change tyres and wheels. The pump tracks isn't the best example admittedly. A better example is Blake's 2019 urban downhill... Racing on concrete\asphalt and complaining about grip.
You have your weigh over the rear wheel when pumping...
Where is this pump track?
Thaden School Pump Track in Bentonville Arkansas. Looks sweet!
On a pump track, a berm is a roller...turned on its side.
