In a way I must agree, why can’t this man be a dog if others feel like a man or woman whilst not biologically being one? I believe that, as valid as your question is, it ultimately comes to what we as humans see as „normal“ and are capable of accepting. Normality is concept which purely stems from our experiences. It may be normal for you to eat ice cream every day, but it could be completely weird and not in the sense of normality in my eyes. I myself do know a few people who say that they are feeling like they are in the wrong body, that they suffer under it and deeply want to change. (and this goes not with the furry discussion, this is something clearly meant to be feral instead of anthropomorphic) My believe simply are to keep it short: live your life for as long as you are not a burden to others and do your part in society right.

  • If it isn't causing distress or dysfunction in areas of his life, it isn’t mental illness. For example, if he is missing work or social gatherings because he is dressing up and acting like a dog instead, then it could be considered a mental illness. If he is just doing it in his free time (and not getting more and more into being a dog and letting it consume his life) then it is just a hobby that many people find strange. It kind of scared me the first time that I saw it, but I am pretty open-minded so I say 'do what you want as long as it isn't causing you or the people around you harm.'
