    • her reaction after her Wimbledon win was the smoothest u will ever see; calm & composed, as if to say, I'm supposed to win Majors. Really exciting prospect, especially if she can mix finesse w/ the power on Clay, which tends to slow groundstroke speed. What's your take on the parity in the WTA? Is it a bi- product of "average"/ inconsistent players beating up on each other, or a bunch of superstars playing @ one time, making it difficult to dominate / win more than 1 major in a year?

    • @@csracingreport2024 tbh I think it’s more the latter, the WTA is stacked with talent and a diversity of styles. A lot of times it depends on the direct matchup and timing for who wins because early round matches can be really high quality. I just always tune in for big-game (sometimes high drama) slam winners like Andreescu and Ostapenko, but there’s also so many dynamic top 50 players that might be overdue a slam like Garcia, Jabeur, Kontaveit, Collins etc. The talent is super deep and there’s plenty of diverse style players to root for IMO

    • @@tannervargas9672 I agree, there's a "Moxy" & Depth power wise, compared to when STEFFI GRAF dominated, and Navratilova before; it was her (Graf) & a drop off 2 everyone else; Aranxta S, Vicario, or a Gabriella Sabatini could only hang on occasion, until MONICA SELES came along, and took it up a notch, along w/ CONCHITA MARTINEZ ; The current era has, to your point a cluster of big hitters; they would pose a problem w/ the previous eras; It feels like there's going to be some dominance, but you may be right, we may continue to see multiple Slam winners

  • Rybakina’s groundstrokes are the smoothest in the women’s game currently. She strikes the ball so sweetly, especially on the forehand side with an effortless motion and the ball just powers forward like a missile. Even Swiatek, for all her defensive skills, cannot get to many of those shots. I watched her once live courtside, and the sound of her racket striking the ball is really something else, very different from other players.

  • Rybakina is quickly maturing as a player and she's got a good shot at the trophy. This may be what both Iga and WTA needs. Iga needs a consistent rival to constantly push her to improve as a player and avoid complacency and stagnation of her game. And the WTA could really use a good rivalry story.

    • Good points, but the parity is pretty deep to where it's A, difficult to dominate, or B, inconsistent players beating up on one another; I lean toward it being A, a bunch of stars playing @ one time, thus making it hard to win majors in bunches: we'll have to just watch & see how it all shakes out, but it's hard to handicap how far anyone can go, therefore the rivalries u speak of may be hard to develop; it may continue to be a random mix/ mosh pit of interesting matchups by committee, but to your point, the smoke may clear up, and someone, or a few someone's, will take charge; RYBAKINA looks like she could be "one of the ones" ... curious as to how she will do on clay moving forward, because she seems to have a handle on hard / grass courts

      @csracingreport2024@csracingreport2024 Жыл бұрын
    • @@csracingreport2024 Well said. Because of the WTA's notorious inconsistency of the players results, I wouldn't dare hope for multiple rivalries just yet. Maybe rising talents like Qinwen Zheng or Alycia Parks can one day create solid match ups that can be considered rivalries in the future. However Rybakina seems to be the only player near Iga's level that's showing consistency in the majors. Even if Iga and Rybakina don't play that often ( Can't underestimate WTA inconsistency) her presence alone may be enough to motivate Iga, and provide the WTA with that least enough of a semblance of a rivalry to write articles about. Also Rybakina has made the quarter finals of RG before breaking through at wimbledon, so she's at least capable on the surface although consistent results are another matter. So as far as the prospect of having a rival near Iga's age that can perform against her and on the highest stages, Rybakina is all we have so far.

    • @@davidmcpherson2220 1st serve can definitely win points. The more accurate the better. But great players can win with good 2nd serves. That is placement. Most players can pop their 1st serves but 2nd serve can determine how good a player can be. i also notice that women players can't win second-serve points. If we remember Justin Henin, she was good with her 2nd serves. So was Serena and that is why Serena was better than her sister, Venus.

  • That’s how you play Iga & Control her game. Iga plays aggressive while able to recover her position fast, also multi-attacks you faster so that you don’t recover your position while she remain 99% accurate. To play her; you need to read when she try to recover her position back to the Center and hit in her opposite running direction. If you wait for her to recover, then she will be already centred & on her toes ready to run in any direction. But great to see. Someone outplaying her. That is good for making the sport more competitive.

  • Opponents had started to take advantage of the Swiatek serve weakness. The first serve is only mediocre while the second serve is way below average. If that doesn't improve, Swiatek is not gonna be number 1 much longer.

    • I'll be tougher for sure, particularly on hard / grass, where EB seems to be very comfortable: on Clay u can get around it, (slow 2nd serve), but w/ a power hitter like Elena & others, your point will be an issue @ some point on the slower surfaces, especially if EB combines finesse w/ that power, look out; the lack of a potent serve has been an Achilles heel on the WTA Tour for decades & Rybakina represents an Improvement & shift in that department by her & others in having that key weapon in one's arsenal, which speaks to your point; If the serve lacks punch, your time near or @ the top will evaporate, because it will be exploited; and you may get served off the court, which still isn't as common as past eras w/ the Men, where someone could serve 30 to 50 aces & send you packing.

  • I regret it for not watching the entire match live. iga plays with a degree of flexibility expected from a World Number 1 like her. She adjusts her game well on the second set in which she is 3-0 up but elena rybakina never stops. Her powerful consistent groundstrokes make her win this match.

  • Iga is not the unbeatable player the media and rest of the tour paint her to be. In 2023, Pegula and Rybakina have exposed the weaknesses in iga's game very well, and the other ladies would do well to take notes

    • It'll be interesting 2 see if A, she can avoid a SHARAPOVA stalling @ 1 Slam, which I tend to believe she will get around being so level - headed, and B, if she can get Majors on Clay; can she mix finesse w/ power on the slower surface, where Swiatek is a proven commodity? If the answer is YES, look out, because she's good to go on hard / grass courts from what everyone can see: Superwoman power in those arms.

  • I'll be honest, I was never impressed with Swiatek's game. I knew it was only a matter of time before the other ladies realized how easy it is to pick her game apart. So far this year she's gotten dominated by Pegula. Rybakina just put her down in straights. It's too soon to tell but I don't think it's going to be a good year for her. The difference between this year and last is that more players have notched wins over her. The scouting report is going to be a little more detailed.

    • U may be right: and even on Clay, where Swiatek is proven, and u can get around slower serving, that may become an issue sooner than later if EB & others begin to sharpen their skills, w/ a bit of finesse to go w/ the power to limit the fatigue factor

  • From a technical standpoint, these two are very different players. Iga pounces on everything without keeping her eyes on the ball, but maintaining control. Elena is much more polished and smooth with her power. The Iga serve has never been a weapon, but she places it beautifully. Elena's serve is powerful silk with minimal efforts. Yeah, I'll stick with Elena!

  • Rybakina game is tough. She hits the ball so flat that you have no time to prepare for next shot. Rybakina gives you no rhythm to work with. She takes the ball early. She is one of the favorites to win the tournament. In IGA Swiatek press conference, she said that she needs to reset and assess her game to make adjustments. IGA needs to add more variety to arsenal. Add the drop shot in her play, add more MPH to her first and second serve, as in terms of her mindset. Just go out there and have fun, and don't have pressure of being number #1. IGA has a tendency to rush. Slow down a little bit and analyze the situation first. I believe IGA will add these changes to her arsenal. This will lead her to GOAT status in the future.
