In this video, we take a look at a white shark dragging a large object that is seemingly wrapped around the dorsal fin. Plus, I film a barracuda take a bite at a young white sharks tail!

As a sailor and active diver I spent nearly 5 years sailing and diving Mexico and the South Pacific. It is amazing the percentage of sea creatures that have human garbage and fishing gear attached to their bodies.
Very saddening. We treat the ocean terribly.
Ohh 😦 that’s awful to hear such a painful truth! 😔
😢😢😢
amazing is not the word I wouldve chose. More like, sad or disgusting.
Ugh…. If only humans were more considerate of this earth!!!
I only thought small fish cleaned off the sharks skin - never knew big fish did it too! It's amazing how the white doesn't want to eat it! How does he 'know' to leave it alone this time and that it wants to clean him. It's so cool.
Me too. Pretty cool to see bigger fish do it as well.
Thank you for all the work you do, it makes a big difference to me and I'm sure thousands of others.
Many thanks. I appreciate your support!
As someone who grew up on nature documentaries and Steve Irwin I love the work you do ❤
Thank you so much! That means a lot.
Amazing footage!
You have caught many firsts. Only someone with your tenacity and devotion to your work could bring such substantial finds! Nice job!
Thanks so much. I wish KZhead distribution was better. Struggling to get the views these videos need to make it worth my while these days.
That was incredible footage of the barracudas and the ray swimming through them! I imagine you must be capturing so much never before seen!
I don't know if you heard of chafing before Carlos, but that is a temporary relation between fish and sharks when fish rub themselves against the shark's skin to relieve an itching. Even smaller sharks seek out larger sharks (like whale sharks) to get a good scratch. It's very fun to watch, though; as is your work.
Thanks Travis, I did a full video about chafing a few months ago. It's pretty cool behavior.
G'day from Perth in Western Australia 👋 Am looking forward to this 😎 Love your videos! 🤙 ✌️❤ 🇦🇺
The 'cuda is probably pissed that the white shark tried to eat him in the other vid you posted, and he's getting back at him.
Every single time I watch one of your videos, I am amazed at the obvious amount of time and work that has gone into the making of your videos. Thank you.
I didn’t know what to expect from the title knowing what razor sharp teeth Barracudas have. How fantastic to find out that indeed the “bite” was beneficial to the white shark to rid it of external parasites. I love that nature finds ways to have these symbiotic relationships between creatures and they innately know. The knowledge is just there. Thank you as always Carlos, for the beauty and the education ❤ 🦈
Thank you for following along! I really appreciate you take the time to comment every time. It really helps. Views are significantly down these days, so I'm likely going to have to start making either less videos or big changes. It's concerning.
@@TheMalibuArtist you are so welcome. I actually shared this video with about 10 of my friends on Facebook Messenger with a note about the other videos you do and told them to check out your videos because they were so amazing. I’m really glad I did that now Carlos. ❤️ I will definitely share more now I know the situation. It may help you to know it’s happened to another animal video creator too. There are a few saying the “algorithm” has been changed. Perhaps that maybe why? Just a thought. Take care. You bring joy to me and many others. ❤️
This is so zen in both the cinematography and the narration. Thank you for such great content; your hard work is appreciated
Much appreciated!
You always have the most interesting and amazing videos. I hope that fishing line on the sharks dorsal fin doesn’t slowly become embedded and amputate the fin. Those barracuda schools were huge. I didn’t know they even did that. Thanks for another great video.
Learn more everyday when I watch your videos and seeing the shark batting a piece of wood with its dorsal fin is a great moment I remember. Barracudas following a shark shows again if needed that shark's especially GWS are not just killers they have other sorts of relationships with sea life. Thank you
The Barracuda tails sparkle in the water. A glittery gold which is gorgeous! Thank you again for all your time and footage.
Another wonderful film. Thanks for continuing to educate & entertain.
Thank you for the wonderful soothing Adventure👏😍🌊🦈
Thanks for the link to that study, Carlos, great source! A few other interesting ones on their site 👍🏼
outstanding - another insightful video from the Malibu Artist. Keep doing what you are doing:-)
Definitely some great shots! Calming and informative. Keep up the great work!
I enjoy your content and your knowledge. I am a commercial diver in Australia and don't get to see the wonderful marine life that you guys have or have much knowledge about it and you do a great job of schooling me. Thank you
Ah man! Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for yet another informative and entertaining video 👌🏻
Your observations are so interesting, thank you for the knowledge !
Always learning something new from you!!!!❤
Some amazing and very informative shots in the video. Thanks for sharing.
Your videos are always informative and beautiful. Thank you for sharing the ocean with us!
Awesome footage! Keep up the great work!
Beautiful footage. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for bringing this out, There is so much we think we understand which in fact we do not understand.
Great video and insight as always
Another great video! Thank you for all you do.
Another beautiful video, expertly narrated ❤
As always impressive footage and an alert to our impact on these marvelous creatures
Your work is so remarkable. You'll go down as one of the greatest white shark researchers there ever were...So the sharks serve as convenience store owners when other fish just want to stop by for a little snack.
Too kind! Thank you!
Another incredibly beautiful and educational video thank you so much for your dedication to our incredible marine life
You do an amazing job with your video's your one of the few narrators i enjoy listening to
Wow, that's just incredible footage!
Beautiful footage. Thank you!
Thanks 🙏 subscribed :) There are many behaviors and interactions of sea creatures that we know nothing about, good to see you adding to the body of knowledge 😊
Really like your drone photages of sharks❤ And the marine biologists too I think😊 learn every time something new
Beautiful scenery, very informative and a touch of nice music. All very well balanced, it was a pleasure to watch. Thank you for taking your time to put it together. It made me subscribe to your channel.
I absolutely love your videos❤I have an extreme fear + fascination with sharks & I recently found your channel & instantly subscribed! I appreciate all your time & dedication to make such quality videos 🙂
Great and insane new observations. Love it mate!
I love our wild oceans. I had an encounter with a barracuda in Virgin Gorda while snorkeling. It was hanging out under rock shelf. Over thirty years ago, but still remember. I even got an underwater photo. Grateful for the chance encounter.
Thank you for this content
Great video and narration. I subscribed!
Awesome, thank you!
What a great video!! Beautiful and interesting. Great job!! 👏👏👏
I have come to deeply appreciate and admire the work you do here! The excellent footage, your melodic voiceover, the calming music…. Your excellent descriptive content!! Having said all that, may I share this on my FB feed and turn my friends on to your work? I believe this is in my top 10 favorite of your videos . Well done, sir !💙🙏🏼🌎
Wow …all I can say is keep up the good work man! Thanks for beautiful content ❤
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you!
Excellent video an narration!
Wow top quality collection of research info. You da man!
Great vid as usual. The kelp footage & especially the larger adult sharks cruising through is incredible. There has been a widely held belief that kelp forests & areas offer sanctuary & safety from large White Sharks. Recent adaptation and hunting strategy or just another case of something rarely witnessed which has always occurred ? Who knows…..beautiful footage as always.
Wonderfull pictures! Thank you!
Thank you for your video ❤
I love your videos. Congratulations
amazing footage
I’m living far from the sea , but I love watching those awesome videos .
Beautifully filmed.
Interesting and beautiful to see and to always learn!!! Thanks for the effort,to let us see the beauty of nature!!!👍👍💯💯♥️
Tnx. Facinating video...❤
The videos are therapeutic 🙏
This is bad ass… Keep up the good work!
Great work
Very informative thank you
this is awesome new subscriber
I really love your videos. Greetings from Limburg Netherlands
Glad you like them!
Great video thanks
Loving your channel, I subscribed! More orcas please.
Thanks!
As a spearfisher who overcame a fear of the ocean to now enjoy it deeply, I love these videos because knowledge delivers you from fear. Knowing how these creatures behave gives me the ability to respect their instinct and dominance over me, and avoid challenging it or presenting myself as a snack.
Great to hear!
These videos are always so beautiful.
Great content!
Absolutly fantastique videos. Great work, nice comment voice, nice music. Very relaxing.
I just wanna say, I hope to become a shark biologist, as I’ve always had a great interest in sharks and their behavior, and every time I see you post a new video it’s a video I greatly look forward too. Thank you for your work, and don’t stop doing what you’re doing bro
Thanks man! I really appreciate that. I['m going to keep doing what I'm doing, but it's tough.
More great content!
Sharks a lot smarter then we think. Thank you for video!
Great video
Rays display effortless grace gliding through the ocean. Rays also seem sure of the fate that awaits them while approaching a white shark. I have a newly found respect for rays.
So amazing and beautiful! 🤩 💙💙💙 Too bad it isn't possible to free that poor shark from his "fin ornament" 😔 Thank you for sharing! ❤❤❤
It’s amazing the time that you take to look at these creatures they scare me to death. I’ll never be that close.ty
This is so cool
Fantastic 💎
Thank you! Always thankful for your comments and support Mel! Cheers!
Thank you!
I love your videos and always watch them - with regard to the shark trailing the kelp from its dorsal fin, I have another possible explanation. Yes it could definitely be a fishing leader but from my observation I think it might possibly be a radio tag that has entangled the kelp. It was hard to tell but there seemed to be a bulbous apparatus attached that looks similar to a tagging / tracking device. It is certainly not definitive but I know there are numerous tagging / tracking programs active in the US and around the world. I was an avid offshore fisherman for many, many years and follow these important efforts still. Just a thought ? Thank you for what you do - your work is vitally important to our understanding to these beautiful animals.
The camera on the drone does an excellent job
Sharky:"Me and my friends love this YT channel! ✨Thank you for showing us the way we are! We wish you millions of fans& dollars and many more good recordings with us! "✨🌊🦈💖✨
I can't tell if I keep coming back for the incredible production value or the bottomless pool of knowledge. I'm thinking both.
Thanks! As a scuba diver and a former resident of California who fled the state, I always figured that I could hide in kelp forests if I spied a large shark. Oops!
I've learned more from you and your videos on great whites than anything else in my 53 years. I used to be terrified of white sharks but I now think they're beautiful. Thank you!!
That's a fish hook and line dragged through the kelp....these damn fisherman.
This is so amazing....
Just like in a fish tank, the Fri hide in the plants/rocks till they get bigger. Thank you!
This was a wonderful video as usual, Carlos! 'm constantly surprised by all the the documentary evidence you bring to the ecological database. 2:10 Did you happen to notice that the fishing line is starting to significantly cut into the shark's tail? It is definitely becoming a candidate for losing its dorsal fin by strangulation. It has the same appearance as the many sea lions that another KZhead channel showing their documents of the efforts at saving as many of them as they can in Namibia.
very cool
Brilliant👏
So beautiful!
I would imagine the dorsal fin has many functions, including scaring people when you see it poking up out of the water. Seriously though, I figure that the way they swim along for quite distances with the dorsal fin above the water potentially sends signals to the shark how high in the column it is. I wonder if it has temperature sensing nerve endings in it, like our fingertips?
Amazing
Gr8 content here
For the first clip where it bats at the object with its fin, another interesting question is raised “why would it be doing that?” That looks an awful lot like play to me.
