@@TerrieHayward OK, I have a question. My puppy is 12 weeks old--part of a 13-puppy litter found in Georgia and rescued. She's part Labrador retriever and part hound or possibly pointer? She's very timid but also smart and loving. My question: we have been taking little walks around the yard, and she keeps walking pressed up against my legs, walking right in front of my feet, and then trying to run on ahead and pull. What are the first steps to train a puppy to walk on a leash? P.S., I have had her since yesterday morning and she has not pooped yet. Should I be worried? Thank you!
Hi@@robincrowflies , "Timid" is often another word for fearful. If you are worried that she hasn't defecated as yet you'll want a vet check. If she's new to you you probably want to have a good vet workup to be sure she's UTD on vaccines, etc. any how. :) You can begin LLW (loose leash walking) inside--where there are less distractions! Check out my video (coming soon) on wearing a harness, too!

Hi @shaoonom.townsend1232--so sorry for my delayed reply. If the leash isn't loose it's likely that A. the leash is too short and/or B. the situation is too difficult.
