In this week's episode, Patrick and Stuart have returned from a week in France where they attended a closing meeting and received the keys to their chateau. They share some details of exploring their chateau as well as providing an update on packing up in the United States.
Join Patrick and Stuart on their journey to find a neglected, forgotten, or crumbling château in France, and then continue to follow them as they work on its restoration, rénovation, decoration, and furnishing. Along the way, they will also create and share videos on their preparation for having gîtes for guests, and an event venue in their chateau (wedding, birthday, anniversary, organization or club meetings, retreats, etc.).

There was a GSD in the photos of the chateau when it was for sale--Patrick and Stuart showed these in previous vlogs. I wonder did the dogs know where the stairs were because of following the previous dog's scent?

Hey Ginny. I am seriously behind in answering. We arrived at the chateau at 3:45 am after being on the road/flight for almost 40 hours. Empty and exhausted but happy and finally staring the new chapter. I love that staircase. Glad you like it too. Yes, the owners left some amazing stuff for us. A car is today’s goal. 😳🥰😳

Good morning Patrick & Stuart, so, your journey has begun, and it sounds marvellous to me. Today is Thursday, this could be the "D" day of leaving US of A! Your new home sounds absolutely intriguing what an adventure awaits you. How wonderful of be able to get all that information about the History of the Chateau. What a treasure! See, all the things you have donated, now the owners have left you some stuff to use and enjoy hopefully. We always reap what we sow. The dog looks quite contented on the rug, animals are just so reassuring in their behaviour. It would be lovely to share your Journey to the Chateau in future videos, cannot wait to see what creative things you are going to do. A grand legacy to leave behind will be your personal experience of buying and restoring the building and outbuildings. One aspect I am so happy to see, you both are so much more relaxed and happy, all the great concern is settled which is good health wise. It is also very pleasing when in the foreign Country and you have super people to advise and instruct which are better options. I am sure you would be back to that outlet in future to support them even more. I hope and trust on the days of removal and arrival the weather will be kind to you all and that the goods can get carried into the Chateau without rain, snow and mud. Congratulations! You've landed and arrived at your destination by the time you read this. I'm so happy for y'all. WOW! I'm so excited about all the wonderful discoveries you're going to make as you go through the trunks (I'm imagining beautiful, well preserved period clothing, maybe some forgotten pieces of beautiful jewelry), hidden nooks and centuries of papers. The most important thing you both need to do is take care of yourselves, health-wise, and set reasonable deadlines, do as I say not do as I do, 🤣. Lol, the rest areas in Wisconsin are either restrooms for people, or the NEXT rest stop is a dog walk. You cannot both relieve yourself and your dog at the same rest stop.

Oh my word! Dreams coming true right before our eyes! Well done! Good luck on Phase 2 of your move tot he chateau! As for a tablecloth for that huge dining room table, I can help you out there! I do custom work in linen! Tablecloths, napkins, curtains, french blinds, sheets, cases, etc.......also still have my connection with many Russian linen mills from my days of importing linen from there to the US. Early days but not a problem for a table that size!!!! So happy for you both....and the pups! Carry on, rejoicing!

What a nerve wracking trip!! I'd have been equally worried about the dogs! And yes, people were wonderful to you! I had a security guard at a Burger King in Ireland let me use his phone, to call home & say we'd arrived safely because my cell phone carrier charged us for international access that did not work! People can be lovely!

How is life treating you? So happy that you are happy! The peaches are coming. Not a lot. Trees are overgrown and older. The plum tree is loaded although 2/3 are dead….. We have a huge fig tree. There were a few figs coming. I thought it was disappointing. However, out of the blue there are hundreds of little figs coming. I see chutney and marmalade in my future! The records are very fascinating. Mostly contracts of land sales and purchases. Wedding contracts too. Just no photos or drawings. And you are right, those will be great winter projects. We have an electrician here now. We know our limitations and electrical with at 220 W is not my field. It will be a huge expense including hiding wire under the plaster……. I’ll email you with more details. 😘

What a great update and you look so happy! Your brief comment on the local boulangerie completely validated our entire decision to move to France! We loved your expressions when discussing the "Tuscan effect" in the kitchen. It will be interesting to see what choices you make in the end. There are so many practical things to handle in any move - even if it is across town. It’s a good thing you both have experience and are resilient, handling all with great good humor and regular lifts of the wine glass (really the best exercise). You already know how to handle all this, so keep doing what you are doing. Enjoy the process, learn all the new things, and explore the many surprises you have waiting in the chateau, outbuildings, and garden. Life is short. Live it to the fullest. ❤️🍷🍷🍷❤️

Appreciate that you shared this video with us. Soooo glad you got a bigger (longer) bed! Goodness, the both of you and 2 dogs are definitely a bit too tight for a standard bed! (Our pitties love to sleeping on our bed , but at night they need to sleep on their own beds cause it really is impossible to have a good night's rest on a queen size bed! (Wish we had more room for a bigger bed, then they could have slept with us. I believe you haven't lived and experienced peace if you haven't shared your bed with your dog(s)/pets. Glad you got all the other appliances, bedding etc and that you received such great service from the French! The bakery nearby sounds so lovely!!! Nothing beats the smell of freshly baked bread and real butter!! You mentioned before you have a cheese factory nearby: wine, bread and cheese, what more do you need? 😁 Cant wait to see more video of the Chateau on the inside and outsjde. (If I bought a Chateau I would have been so excited that I would not be able to sleep at night, especially cause you haven't been in all the outbuildings as yet!! Oh, and all those documents you mentioned are soooo exciting! Wow, you bought a large dining table fit for a chateau ! Think you will have to make you own table cloth, don't know where you will find such large table cloths! Hope somebody can sew!!!! May you be blessed in every possible way on your new yourney in your new home! Till next time!

The dogs will be useful if you get lost in the chateau. They will be able to act as your own in-house St Bernards and come to your rescue when you cannot find your way around the building! The documents are a true treasure. Some archivists say not to wear gloves because they can cause damage if you struggle to turn the pages with them on. It is such a conundrum and there is no easy solution. Maybe you could have them copied so that you can easily read the copies? It would ensure ease of mind, to some extent. Thank you for the video!

We are completely exhausted. Finally got our dogs settled. In 12 hours our neighbor will pick us up. We will fly with 2 boys and the remaining 5 will be sent via animal Transport for $7,000. Then there is the customs agent. Another &$1,300. We have our darling friend Doris who organized our transport to the chateau. With all dogs. It’s midnight. Hugs and I cannot wait to meet you.
@@patrickjourneytothechateau8243 How wonderful... Finally home, wonderful. Its so exciting, but such an ordeal. And so expensive. But, what can we do. I honestly want to meet you guys as well. It will be easy good company, I will love it. I have tested my twin and I again for covit today. His was negative and mine is still positive. But, we are both feeling pretty good. I only have mild symptoms now. It was a hideous ordeal though and made me so weak to be honest. Cant wait to see your next Vlog. Its always such a thrill and always makes me smile without fail and excites me. Take care guys😘😘
@@cliffhorman6846 Please feel better soon! We have a dear friend (sheila who watched our dogs) who was vaccinated but got COVID. Took her 2 weeks. And she is a very healthy woman. Also an accounting director for a multi billion $ company.......) It is incredibly expensive, especially now. Dod transport went from $4,000 to almost $7,000 due to gas prices. However, as long as they arrive safe and healthy, we are happy. Hug to you and your twin.

I'm so excited for you both the end of your journey is near .Lovely to know the dogs are happy and I'm sure will love exploring with you both that beautiful château. Just loved the opening of this vlog. Fabulous graphics. Too bad you couldn't take the 4 dogs but great that 2 made it safely. When those 2 reunite with the others it will be a joyful time. The place sounds exciting with lots of projects. Glad you got some shopping done and had a great Mother's day with your mom after so long. Get your address out cause people will be sending you lots.
