I'll still never forget the first time I got an INT in 2K8. It was on the sideline and as my DB was running it back I noticed that all of my teammates on the sideline reacted realistically. They started celebrating right after the pick and started cheering me on as I was returning it. Jumping up and down, waving towels, etc. This game would be near perfection with a Franchise Mode.
Yes, and in Madden, everyone on the field chases you no matter where they are on the field. I believe in either 2k5 or APF2k8, opponents would slow down and realize what a lost cause it would be to attempt to give chase. It was a really realistic and immersive experience.

@@dodekinderen2066 To a degree. But the biggest difference between EA and 2K, is the effort. They still seem to care about improving the game, at least for ones they had developers in. (WWE being the only outlier) The effort EA put into the latest FIFA and Madden, on current gen consoles and PC, pales in comparison to even the effort 2K put into NBA2K2 for the Nintendo Switch alone.

Remember how on 2K5 u could integrate ur own personal music for sacks, 1st downs, touchdowns, etc from DLd CDs?! Game had EVERYTHING
NCAA Football had that feature in 2009 or 2010 (I forget which year). You could set custom music to a number of different triggers in the game.
Sadly this was an Xbox exclusive feature because the system had the ability to rip your CDs like iTunes or Windows Media Player.
I loved that about 2k5 it was insane, madden doesn't compare

@@Bidwellz9 he was talking about the unique way he escaped the pocket. He looks at the defenders and make a move to escape them. In Madden you can escape pressure, but it doesn't look very real. You move the quarterback away from the defenders while he blankly stares downfield and then gets sucked into a reach sack animation.

Madden has flaws that should be pointed out, but sometimes it gets quite petty. Like complaining about the injury animation. In that video adrian Peterson injured his left hand, and moody criticized that he slammed his helmet...when he did it with his right hand. Those are just nitpicks and you can definitely nitpick 2k5 if you want. When you play on turf, the field looks like trash by the end of the game...when its turf. They miss uniforms that madden had...like the cowboys 1995 blue throwback (although they had the white version from 1994). They didnt have a create a team. And the postgame show was all over the place. There is a video where a guy plays Dallas vs New York to a 10-10 tie. At the end of the game, berman says Dallas wins 10-10 and in the recap he says New York wins 10-10. Also you cant choose the uniform of your opponent in franchise mode like you can in madden. And these issues werent new...they carried over from previous 2k installments.
If NCAA 14, 2K5 and 2K8 were spliced you'd have a perfect football game. Ive got all of them. 2K8 plays the best on the field, needs 2K5 presentation, and road to glory and dynasty mode like in NCAA14. First person football wouldnt hurt either.
Give me the franchise and superstar mode from Madden 08 with 2k8's gameplay and the presentation from 2k5 and I'll never buy another football game again

Imagine an updated version with improved graphics and physics, lighting effects, and an updated roster to reflect all the greats who have retired and gone to Canton in the breach.
If this game got the same treatment as "2k5 resurrected".. it'd be a horrible day for madden.
If 2K5 would have had the same mechanics and animations as 2K8 It would by far be the best game ever made and I personally believe If they would have had 2K6 Madden really would have been In trouble because 2005 Is when the Madden Franchise pretty much wasn't straight up with us about how 06 was going to look on next gen. Even rise and fall of Gameday, I would watch that, they were the first ones that featured real time injuries back in 1997.
I would pay the price of a new console for a 2k copy of All Pro Football 2k20 with all 32 teams completely customizable and a franchise mode. The only reason I play 2k5 over this is because of the limitations in 2k8. Its EA's fault but 2k really dropped the ball and rushed this out. Gameplay is amazing though. Love your videos, one minor gripe... Madden 17 did initially have a pretty damn good strip sack that was removed in a patch, the same patch that installed a stupid running back move that made them slow down and juke in the open field. EA sucks. Last Madden I bought used. Haven't bought Madden new since 25. Thanks for the roster link I'll check it out. I love 2k8 but playing it always depresses me because I think of what could have been.
This game came out at the wrong time. Madden was arguably at its peak and this game had no game modes outside of play now and season. If All Pro dropped today with more features it would sell like hotcakes
If the CPU AI in 2k5 didn't suck so bad, I would still be playing that franchise mode. They just feed you turnovers because they rush throws to avoid sacks, and they only throw bullet passes
They probably should have waited a year and used the extra time for an even better creation suite, and a way to make a franchise mode that made sense.
@@kylefunderburk4194 they should have skipped the expensive legend system and gave us a totally customizable system where you can generate players the same way you can with the APFE but with a cap on how many points you can assign to player ratings for the whole team, like a salary cap. Legends were cool and they feel different, yes, but at the same time they essentially played the same because the tier system created a bum, good, very good, and great caste of players but didn't give varied and flawed players they way you had in 2k5. You wouldn't have to choose between giving the ball to Tiki Barber a lot (50 fumble rating) and Ron Dayne (70 overall but 90 secure ball), or playing Kerry Collins (7 fumble rating and 50 speed) and Rich Gannon (higher fumble rating and speed and consistency but weak arm), or playing Deshaun Foster (higher speed and break tackle animations that were much faster) or Stephen Davis (more consistent broken tackles but slower animations and speed) the 2k8 editor finally lets people create a very diverse assortment of teams
It would be nice if 2K made an updated version of All Pro Football with fully customized teams, the stadiums from the original APF2K8 with new stadiums and the customizable uniforms for the next gen consoles. Add online play and franchise modes and I'm pre ordering the game. But unfortunately that may never happen, but one can pray for it.

I play the beast, the werewolves, the sharks, and the legends all the time. The other night I had a 48-45 barnburner I lost to the werewolves cuz I let up a kick return TD after scoring with 10 seconds left. I also let up a kick return TD after scoring with like 15 seconds to go in the first half. And let up an opening kickoff TD return. It would have been the best game of all time if it were real life.

because madden hasnt updated its character models since 2009, just stretching different slightly higher res textures over em every year, and the animations in 2k8 are ten times more realistic and detailed than madden 20

Really nice video! One suggestion: maybe add a bit more in-game footage? Like, with the HUD up, playing it normally. It'd help those of us unfortunate enough to never play give us more of a sense of the game!

Hey man - I dunno if you read your comments but I just wanted to say thank you for making this channel. I'm someone who's been a hardcore sports / sports gaming fan dating back to the early 2000s. I've been on forums like Operation Sports and we've collectively bashed our skulls in with year after year of disappointment with our franchise modes (whether it be Madden, FIFA, or NHL) - and only NBA2k has really satisfied that thirst with their magnificent MyLeague (which sadly doesn't get enough attention cuz people are obsessed with MyCareer) Nonetheless, I remember getting All-Pro Football 2k8 when it came out, got it on Xbox 360, and I STILL have fond memories of playing it to this day. It's been 5+ years but this was a wonderful trip down memory lane. I remember LOVING Ricky Watters as my silver star running back. The smoothness of the gameplay just feels completely counter to what Madden has become in recent years. Keep up the good fight. It feels awesome to finally have a video game critic who covers sports games now!

I absolutely loved this game! The freedom in the creation of players and teams is something I really haven't felt in a football video game since.
NCAA 14 and this game are my favorite football games. The physics based movements of both games feel so much better then modern madden games. And how a 220 ib 5’3 HB will be slower then a smaller one but hit harder feels so good.

APF could work out better today than in 07. Players that have retired since are more known and dear to people who play video games: ray lewis, brian dawkins, ed reed, LT, Vick, steve smith, TO, Moss, peyton, eli, charles woodson, michael strahan, julius peppers, urlacher, 85, and much more. The roster for APF08 was great but most players were before most video game players time. I think if it were released today with a franchise mode, it might sell better than 08. The fix for the franchise aging problem, would be to place players on teams based on their prime year, and have players, including generic players to level up to bronze, silver and gold Edit: thinking back to this comment and others I've made about this game, all 2k needED (because now they kinda can't) to do was to make something similar to what axis and maximum are trying to so. Basically: remove the legends, add more plays, add more jersey, cleats and helmet options, add more logos, add the ability to create a college league, pro league or even HS league then have those league interact with each other and release a license-less game that plays great for 30-40$

2K should give it another shot. Yeah the game flopped in 2007 but now the market has changed. Gaming in general has changed. 2K is so big now that a football game done by them would no doubt be successful. I’m not blaming EA anymore, 2K fans and football fans have been begging for them to comeback and 2K won’t even speak about a football game. With how much money they made on NBA2K and GTA they can afford to at least make an attempt.

Great video! NFL 2k always seems to be a little too ahead of the times for it's own good, but I do think MUT helped people become more comfortable with custom teams. APF may be poised to make a comeback soon........hopefully
I remember when I was 12 or 13, I got an XBOX 360 for christmas and the very first game I ever got for it was APF 2k8 and I loved it!

They don't give a shit, obviously. They only care about the bottom line, which to be fair is kind of the point of corporations. Their approach is to have the dev team spend as little as possible, then make as much as possible. This is why Madden barely has any new features, and largely is the same year after year, with few improvements: they don't get the budget to completely overhaul the game.

I remember going out of town with my family and going with my dad into a GameStop, probably around 2011. I’d never heard of this game, but it looked awesome to me, plus it was only $7, so I got it pretty easily lol. I still play it too this day, and I agree, one of the best football games ever easily. Here’s hoping 2k eventually gets another try, because the potential is just too insane.
