  • I didn't pay close attention to the tracks when you built this kit, Andy. I broke into mine a few days ago and the new engineering on this track link set up is amazing. I typically struggled with your technique for building the link and length tracks but this way, with the guide notch in the idler wheel, is 21st century BOSS!

  • Good video!! I pre-ordered this kit back in October and cannot wait for its arrival. Anyway, have built the Academy version of this vehicle about 10+ years ago. Can remember that it was a bit unnecessarily complicated - but that is Academy kits for you. also, it gave you the chose of 1-piece vinyl tracks which were too tight and did not fit properly AND it gave you link-n-length tracks as well. Eventually got it finished.

  • Looking forward to this kit. I was disappointed by both the Academy and AFV Club releases back-in-the-day. I built them for my father, who was a crewman in a Hellcat during WWII. Fortunately, I was able to incorporate one into a diorama in his honor before he passed. He loved it. His unit was attached to Patton as they crossed Belgium, participating in the Battle of the Bulge, and rolled into Germany.

For beginners, it would be helpful to have a list of the paints used in the video, as we try to mimic what we see on video to our model. • Good idea from Tamiya, there are not many competing M18s on the market so I expect this will sell very good. I generally don't buy Tamiya AFVs, because they are just not very good, but this one might actually be the best option for M18. Of course, those terrible decals will have to be dealt with, but that's not that difficult with tank kits.

    @dusanbolek8004@dusanbolek80042 жыл бұрын
    • Not very good? I love them.

      @ytwos1@ytwos12 жыл бұрын
    • I build my M18 Hellcat out of parts of AFV and Tamiya because both models had some mistakes in the shape of it. And from the look of it Tamiya didn't changed them in the "new" Kit.

      @JazzJaRa@JazzJaRa2 жыл бұрын
    • @@ytwos1 Well, they have good fit and are easy to built sure, but the competitors now offer well more detailed and what's more important way more accurate kits for the same price. Tamiya AFV "division" is rather inferior to their aircraft production, which are still mostly the best on the market. Tamiya tanks though are oversimplified and quite often just terrible as for example their M1A2 Abrams, which they created by only slight modification of their very old M1 Abrams kit despite the fact that there are very significant differences between these two in real world especially considering the suspension. That's rather logical, because M1A2 can weight almost fifteen tons more and the suspension has to reflect that, but not in Tamiya world. So generally when dealing with aircrafts go for Tamiya, but with AFVs the offerings from companies like Takom, RFM, Miniart etc. usually will give you more value for your bucks.

      @dusanbolek8004@dusanbolek80042 жыл бұрын
  • That box at the back ofnthe turret is supposed to be the radio! Afv clubs was the same i swapped it out fornthe actual radio that sat there! As its right in your face being open topped! academy's and afv clubs turret basket were one peice nothing new with tamya doing this! Afv club had the slide Moulded turret so that was always the better one only if they stopped using them rubber bands for track's! I was another £30 for metal track's but the hellcats track's look amazing in the metal I'll give them that so was worth it! And we had separate shell rack's don't like that 2 peice full rack! Nice to have some used up or the option atleast depending on price of the new Tamiya kit that's what it comes down to with choosing this of the afv club kit! Did it come with the front hatch windscreen covers that were stowed in the side turret bins?

    @AFV85@AFV852 жыл бұрын
    • I was just looking at the other options, because Tamiya AFVs are usually lacking and are not on par with the competition especially considering their pricing, but the only other M18 on the market right now is that by you mentioned AFV Club kit, which while looking generally OKish has those rubber tracks that are just no go. Rubber tracks are such a terrible idea.

Such an effective and easy way to build up highlights and textures. For me it came naturally as I started in minis before doing scale models so it was part of the tool kit.

    @huwtindall7096@huwtindall70962 жыл бұрын

    • Why you want to use waterbased? And what you call water based? Gunze call their H line water based, and those are far superior to the Vallejo paints. Vallejo doesn't belong in airbrushes, not even the Air line. Those paints spray like turd (and tipdrying), almost any other paint atomizes much better, except the former (pre v3) AK acrylics. That latax based formula is good for paintbrushes, but the worst possible for airbrushes. And it could be a nightmare to clean it out from your tools. The other thing I had experienced with those paints and primers: they don't adhere to the plastic really good. Peeling off easily, despite any cleaning and degreasing of the surface before.
