Moving trailers or devices with a hook can be very tiring and tiring, so we decided to make a vehicle that will make life easier.
We used generally available elements such as
Broken wheelchair motors
Wheels from ATV
Gel batteries
Motorcycle sprockets
Self-aligning bearings
Wiper motor
Dolly is very strong and agile. The batteries should last for about 30 minutes, which is sufficient for normal use.

  • A few answers to frequently asked questions :) The charging port is on the top cover, forgot to show it. The batteries last for about half an hour of driving. The maximum weight of a trailer or machine is approximately 500 kg / 1100 lbs.

  • For anyone curious how to mig weld. There is usually a datasheet sticker with settings related to volts and wire feed speed. Just know the size of wire and check it out on the sticker. More expensive machines will guarantee this sticker is included. As far as gas flow it should be set to 20 cfh (cubic feet per hour) or 10 Lpm (liters per minute). If there is wind set 10 cfh higher or 5 Lpm adjustments. Er70s-6 is standard wire

  • Another fantastic build with a practical use. I modified some electric pallet trucks to do a similar job and learned a few things. On this build, the position of the ball hitch is very close to the drive centre line. This reduces steering effort. However, if the trailer hits resistance, the unit is going to try drive out from under the trailer - potentially whipping the handle upward quite violently. But I applaud your excellent craftsmanship and creativity!

    @daithiosioradain3380@daithiosioradain3380 Жыл бұрын
    • @Daihti__ Exactly. Nothing to prevent violent swing up, down sideways if the towed or tow-er wheels hit an obstacle or hole, etc.. but besides that, nice workmanship 👍👍 🤔.. maybe an extension post added to the front with a caster wheel under it, and the trailer ball on top of that??

      @sovrgnman@sovrgnman Жыл бұрын
    • Perhaps, if the ball hitch were closer to the center of the towing vehicle, that might mitigate the upward swing?

      @isaacmadhavan@isaacmadhavan Жыл бұрын
    • @@isaacmadhavan Actually the further forward of the centre, and the lower, the hitch and ideally the centre of gravity of the unit, the better. Hence the suggestion above of a caster wheel out front.

  • Very clever idea and well made video.👍 The little power drive ball hitch device is very handy for relatively light loads, but a stronger version could be made for shifting heavier loads like carevans and medium size trailers. It make me a bit jealous to see the excellent skill in combination with good tools and equipment making this project look like child's play, but we can't all be equally skilled at everything...😀 PS, for people who may not already know it: Leaving skin, and especially eyes exposed to welding arc's glare can easily suffer damaging "flash burns" to exposed skin and permanent damage to their vision - and potentially skin cancers in the future.🤐 !

    @advancednutritioninc908@advancednutritioninc908 Жыл бұрын
  • This is a great video. Furthermore, it yields a product that in a modified version, I may want to build. The one issue I see id that based on the bolts used to fix both sprockets and both hubs to one shaft (see 3:43 and 3:52), this means both wheels MUST turn at the same speed. I occasionally move a ~3000 lb trailer/ in an asphalt covered storage yard. (~400 lb tongue weight, and ~250 to 300 lb thrust, very slow speed ~1 km/hr). The asphalt and tongue weight mandate that the two drive wheels to be able to rotate and different speeds relative to one another. So, each sprocket needs to be affixed to the adjacent hub, where both are allowed to rotationally 'float' on the mainshaft. Given the slow speeds, this could be done without additional bearings.

  • I had trouble backing our 16 ft long camping trailer into the narrow side driveway into the backyard. Hard since an often busy street (school nearby) and hard to make the 90 deg turn onto the drive while avoiding trees and bushes, plus hard to tell the angle of the trailer. I finally bought a small cable-winch from Harbor Freight and welded a plate to bolt it to the trailers rear bumper, and is easily removed. I ran a thick cable from the 12 VDC battery at the front to an outlet near the winch. I used a manual Trailer Dolly from Harbor Freight at the front to steer as I operated the winch with remote control. Total cost ~$100. Then all I had to do was back the trailer up enough to get the rear wheels near the driveway, then unhook before drivers became irate about my tow vehicle partially blocking the driving lane (fussy parents since street is wide w/ parking & bike lanes, plus center turn lane). Steering with the tow-dolly was easy and allowed tight turns. Finally, the ultimate solution was to sell the trailer, since a hassle towing one and went years without using it. Tent camping is actually easier. But, such powered trailer dollies are neat. There are commercial ones (pricey), with some cheaper hand-cranked versions.

    • Same question! Why two motors and two chains when its one axle? Logical would be that left and right is not connected.

      @Tramm454@Tramm454 Жыл бұрын
    • @@Tramm454 I would’ve built it exactly the same except spilt the axle added a tube to go over the split between the motors with some bearings it could float just a double set per side and two switches would make it easy to steer under load and everything else

  • Excellent craftsmanship! I'd love to see what you might be able do do with the parts left over from a captured Russian tank. Ukraine seems to have a surplus of them lately 😉

      @jamesdavis7927@jamesdavis7927 Жыл бұрын
    • @@jamesdavis7927 I don't think it was meant that way. This type of build takes someone with the right tools and a fabrication skills. Its not your average simple DIY project that most can do. Not to mention the coat of those "right tools". With that said it was still cool to see him build it.

  • As usual a brilliant piece of Kit, I enjoy watching your different builds, this one is close to something I trying to do at present I would love to know the size of the sprockets, and the length of that chain I like that you have a reasonable speed, I trying build something like that but not for towing a trailer specifically but for general towing stuff around the garden Im getting too old for pulling and heaving stuff (80)
