  • I'm 56 and retired. That may seem early, but my husband starting going blind two years ago. I'm so thankful I can have this time with him to travel and just slow down life. Thank you for reminding others that anything can happen.

  • I am not debt free yet, but am on the way. My son and his girlfriend are renovating their home, as they can afford it, of course! I visited them last weekend, and in the past I think they always felt that they had to "entertain " me which was expensive and totally not necessary! This time, I borrowed a movie from the library, and we had a movie night at home. I also took my scrabble game, and we had a really fun time, without any of us spending a dime.

  • We rarely go out to eat for a date but if people want to go every week just use the fast food apps and eat cheap. You can have just as much fun getting a 5 dollar meal and free frosty (with the key card you buy for 2 dollars once a year) as you can a fancy place. Think outside the box. Of course not going ou saves the most. All our dates when the kids were little were with a dollar rental dvd, popcorn, and a once a week can of coke!🌞 To be honest it is still is my favorite 🌞

  • Just a suggestion: In late winter, call your local nursery and ask to order Lavender in pots. Place your order and when the nursery places their seasonal plants orders - they will include your order. Also - I, nor anyone I know - has ever had success with growing Lavender from seed! Order ahead! My best variety is always ‘Hidcote Blue’.

  • If I was just a bit younger when my husband died, I would have been in trouble. If I was a bit older, I would have been able to get more money each month. When he died, he was on disability and was receiving his pension. I was old enough to get 2/3 of the amount he received from SSD. I also get the same amount from his pension. I was a sahw, and if I didn't have this income, I would have had trouble finding a job that would have paid me enough to afford everything.

  • as for putting stuff in the cart on line and waiting till end of month... one might not even remember what was on there if you don't go check it regularly! married 55 yrs hubby and I used to walk the mall but leave my purse in the trunk of the car (I had the credit card) so if we wanted to buy something we had to go out to the car at the end of our meandering to get my purse and go back in, NOT ONCE did we go out for the purse!!!!!

  • A little tip, Lavender seeds are notoriously difficult to start and get growing. Sprinkle a few seeds on a damp paper towel put the paper towel in a plastic bag, push all the air out, and put it in your freezer for about a month. Then sprinkle them on top of your seed starting mix but don't cover them. They need light to germinate! Good luck!

  • If in the US it helps to buy a smaller condominium for two people and all your kids have flown away that might help. I live in one and I tell you it's a lot easier to maintain, clean and pay for it. As you get older you want less things to clean less and easy to clean. You want delicious food that takes less energy and time. This is esp helpful if you have a knee problem, etc. The other thing we need less heavy furniture because with aging comes the onset of not being able to lift heavy things. If you are like me, you will avoid as much furniture as necessary because I'M sick of falls because our younger kids are not always proactive and I have fallen many times because of loose wires or too many things that need to be cleared and I end up falling and sometimes feeling the pain for a week or two having been lucky I didn't need hospital care. Simplicity is a Godsend and it's economical. 😊😊

  • Just one quick consideration though... loans for big purchases like a house or an extension on the house, are not always bad. If your payment today is X amount, with inflation over time it won't half as bad as it looks

    • Shaving from a bar of Irish spring original scent placed around the area of entertainment works as a repellent. On a personal level, take a vitamin B complex 20 mins before you go outside to work/entertain, this makes you unpleasant to flying biters.

    • @@saraconklinfrozenpennies lived in a waterfront community with marshes, mosquito heaven. My sister and I kayaked every week that summer and fall. Used vitamin b complex and though mosquitoes normally skip everyone to feast on me, I didn’t get bit once, same for my sister. Worked for my SIL. But my dental assistant called it a fail, 😞. But many other YT commenters have said it worked for them.

  • House extension loan. Have you calculated the approximate total to see how much interest you would end up paying. You may even be able to work out a store credit card with zero interest and use the plan to start early or as additional credit building. (It maybe something outrageous and not even worth the loan, but maybe not if finagle right.) 😁
