As the first-ever Italian built Jeep to grace our shores, the little Renegade looks to offer Jeep buyers all the charisma and charm of a Wrangler, but wrapped in a tidy, more adorable package.
I have this Jeep. If you're confident enough to drive it then its a great vehicle. My friends were the first to give me crap for it. There is always looks and laughs usually from guys driving decked out wranglers that look like they've never seen dirt or girls driving 4 door unlimiteds. Some people actually tell me to drive a mans vehicle. Whatever thats supposed to mean. If none of that will bother you then get it. This thing can actually wheel. The trailhawk model definitely earns its trail rated badge. I can have fun on the trail and feel great driving to work.
I'm a woman and want this car..what do you mean by if your comfortable enough to drive it
Mariyah P Might be a little too feminine for men
I fell in love with the renegade, it's cute in a positive way.
I could care less if someone laughs at me for driving a renegade. It's obviously not my dream car, but I can't afford a mustang Shelby gt350. I've had jeeps since I was 17. I own a 04 jeep grand cherokee and I love but it's time for something new though. For him to say that jeep did a shit job on building their old cars, is an idiot. My car is still holding up for its age. It has 98k miles on it. Honestly, I want a renegade for design and for the off roading. I like the way it looks it doesn't look like most cars.
I have 11 rubicon and 17 trailhawk. I drive my trailhawk the most. I really really like it. Screw the haters. 🖕🏻
I bought a 2017 Jeep renegade trailhawk and some of my buddies gave me crap about it. Until we went off-roading and I was able to keep up with their lifted trucks and jeeps. My jeep was the smallest vehicle in our "pack" everyone kept calling it "baby jeep" but after that day they never gave me crap about it again.
Baby jeep
Whats up with men and their fragile egos…
Baby jeep 😊
The bigger the car, the smaller the ... If I were single, I'd definitely chose the one with the baby jeep!!
I really love this car! It looks really good inside and out.
It’s also compact which makes it very easy to maneuver in parking lots and tight spaces
So does everyone and their mama's mama within a 300 mile radius of where I live!! I've been trying to buy a used Trailhawk with low mileage but every time I zero in on one, it's SOLD before I can get to it. Very aggravating.
Not only that, but the sleazy car stealerships in my area will get a nicely equipped, low mileage Trailhawk and advertise it at a low price as a BAIT and SWITCH car. When you get to the stealership, they have it hidden and say "it just sold this morning" hoping you will buy something that costs 3 times as much on their car lot. I hate car dealers. I believe most of them are sociopaths.
Since this video, jeep has updated their transmission software in late 2016 for all 2.4 liter models. When I got the update I was amazed at the difference. I drive a fwd 2.4 liter renegade latitude, which weighs in at 3,056 lbs compared 3,532 lbs of the trailhawk. Noticeably quicker for sure. I test drove the trailhawk and an awd edition first and didn't like the heavier suspension feel, added driveshaft noise, electronic transfer case without a long known history of reliability, nor the upgraded cost of driving on off road tires daily down the interstate and around town. There is something about owning this jeep that no one would understand. If you've ever drove the Grand Cherokee or more so the Wrangler, you know that in order to keep it somewhat stable and smooth, you need to take extra trips for warranty work at the dealership. Then they become essentially money pits after warranty, which is only 36,000 miles on the suspension components, which will fail first. The patriot, compass, and comander series feel loose and have cheap interior. The closest jeep I could compare it too is the latest model Liberty. But still, the renegade is notably better built and well rounded in appearance and abilities. Its very spacious as well, with enough cargo area to get the basics done. They maintained the jeep experience and the plethora of emblems reminds you of that. The transmission will tug up hilly back roads at low rpm and has enough bottom end torque to get that jeep feel across. I think after the Liberty, Cherokee, Patriot, Compass, Jeep has finally made a vehicle that anyone can appreciate. I not only fell in love with the way it looks, but the driving experience is enjoyable as well. Not a single problem thus far, 57,000 miles, and I have a moderately heavy foot. The only thing that I wish they would of made differently for my 2016 is a start/stop feature, with the electronic A/C as I do live near DC where traffic is 15% of your conscious lifespan. I do not know if the late model does, but many of the compasses and cherokees do. Something I was torn on initially when I was looking at those two. But overall I get about 25mpg average. So if your curious, I highly recommend you test drive one. These videos really can't give you a true feel of the vehicle and once you do test drive, you'll understand why they are becoming more and more popular. The newest models add an LED lit trim to the main headlight housing which is something I am looking to upgrade in mine soon. Whether stock, lowered, or off road style, this jeep provides and looks damn good at doing so.
I just bought this car the other day (my first car) I really love it
Hi, do you still love your car? Is it reliable? I’m thinking about purchasing 2016 renegade trailhawk.
I have a trailhawk and the 2.4 gets up and goes so I don't know WTF he's driving but 185 HP in that little car moves it along very well. Getting out of the hole it's as fast as anyone else in this town so I don't see where it's underpowered? I have owned 3 corvettes and know what speed is but this car is fine with that engine, I keep up and move along with traffic better than the rest. That trans is fine, I have had no problems like he describes and I feel that Jeep did a great job in matching that engine with that trans. BTW I get 24MPG at best with the trailhawk but WTF I didn't buy it as an econmy car
U owned 3 corvette and ended up in this? I feel sorry for U
Great review! The Renegade is really growing on me.
I wouldn't let this guy test out my car ...... this dude is as gentle as Godzilla attacking the city
6tss it’s stupid to stomp on the gas so hard. Hardly anyone drives like that
kinda agree 19:20 he illegally speeds and at 24:18 he changes lanes without signaling i know there wasn't people there but still very unsafe practices especially on public roads
@@blocke2551 if there’s nobody there who do you signal to??
@@cwchris_ it's just a safe practice whether someone is there or not.
I honestly do not see how this thing is ugly or feminine. Yeah the back lights look a bit funky but other than that it looks just fine
When I was dating my wife to be, I always knew the second generation Honda Odyssey would be my principal vehicle during my child rearing years. Now, I feel like the Jeep Renegade Trail-hawk is destined to be my principal vehicle when I become an empty-nester. I always wanted a Jeep but I did not want the poor Jeep reliability. Now I can have a Jeep with true four-wheel drive and off-road worthiness but, with Italian engineering and manufacturing to provide Fiat reliability. Very good review. Thanks.
I hear you. Same story for me.
Thorough and quick comprehensive review. Thanks man.
Late to the game here, but VERY helpful video. Much appreciated on how thorough and straight-to-the-point you are with everything. Really helped me make a decision.
I'm pretty sure you can fold down the middle seat to make it a centre concel in the back seat, cause I saw two cup-holders and a button.
Yes it does fold down. i have no idea how he didn't notice that.
Jeep gets a bad rap with many reviews. They are designed for off-road use, and the ride quality will be different (tighter, stiffer). They will not accelerate as quickly as other vehicles. This Jeep is not trying to be an Escape or CRV. Once you turn onto a dirt road and get some mud on the tires, this vehicle (and the Wrangler and Cherokee) will shine. It'll go anywhere!! If someone wants a car to run around town and haul the family, this may not be the best (few cars will be more fun to drive). It is designed for outdoor family use, getting off road, and going camping off the grid. Jeeps should always be evaluated with this in mind. Since I take my Jeeps off the grid, I can't say enough about how much I love them. I just bought my third Jeep (Cherokee Latitude) and I absolutely love it!!
Having owned a Patriot since 2009 & a Commander since 2007, I can see the majority of testers don't really get Jeeps. The Trailhawk will do things off road that the rest of the vehicles in its class will have to stay behind & dream about doing.
I'd rather have the Subaru crosstrek myself
Sorry if someone has already said this stuff... The back seats do have an armrest ... The cup holders on the back on the middle seat (in the boot) are not for people sitting in there lol. The roof does come with a key thats pretty cool actually... the roof also comes with a clip-on wind deflector for when both roof panels are off. Other than that, good review.
other than that good review? the guy didnt even bother to look or do some research...this is like a 30 second job and car salesman does it better =.=
Yay so happy you made a review for the Renegade. I wanted to know your opinion about it! I have a White Limited 4x2. Thanks for your review and keep up the good work
I have the 2017 version. This review helped me make my decision. One item to note, the transmission is not that big of an issue. The automatic shifting algorithm is designed to increase fuel economy. If you want to leverage the engines actual power band, simply move the shifter to the left and use the manual shifting mode.
great video! I just test drove one of these and loved it,to stop wind buffeting with roof panels removed Crack a window open a bit
10:50 my co worker bought one of these jeeps. he said when it rains those roof panels leaks...
I had a silver and been a month already , loved it!
here's a question for Chrysler. Why the fuck does anyone need 9 gears? It's not a semi truck.
Attempt for better mpg. I personally think the 8 speed is a nice sweet spot but anymore than that feels kinda pointless.
+Leroy Butts It's to have a transmission that's like a CVT but doesn't feel like one. I bet FCA would put a CVT in it if they thought that customers wouldn't hate it.
+Leroy Butts they can't compete with the fuel efficient Asian engines with 6 speeds so they try and attract buyers with 9 gears
+dave houston Nah, Toyota and Honda are using 8 and 9 speeds too.
+Leroy Butts Go with the manual
From what i've seen this thing's pretty damn good offroad, decent 4wd power and nice long wheel travel. I guess it's real problem is that it looks too cute to imply its performance. i kinda want to get one, give it a mud bath every week, then drive drive around with it absolutely caked in dirt
Do it and don’t judge a book by it’s compact cover?
Awesome! Review thank you so much for sharing
We have a 2015 Trailhawk Renegade with MySky power roof panels. Jeep did provide a special tool to unlock the roof panels for removal.
Very great and detailed review! 👍🏾👍🏾
Littering the rental fleets, drove the Patriot on the two lane Smokey Bear back roads of Mississippi. 4WD came in handy in the rain and no cell signal forests. Real power outlet need adapter for USB power items.
Must take for a test drive!
Finally a car that looks perfect for you !
And if the Renegade joins the other Jeep "rental queens" they can call it the Rentagade.
hey @zzubuzz .. just to follow up on ur comment from a year ago.. nobody in my area I can find so far will rent me a renegade.. i have been looking for days cause i am thinking about buying one of these and wanted to rent one for the weekend can't fine one
@@robertastarr4276 late to the post but i was able to rent a rengade on one of the Greek islands. Lots of dirt roads, rocks, and sand. Wife really enjoyed it so we bought a trailhawk when we got back to the states. It did fantastic in a recent snowstorm. It did much better with traction than my 2018 Canyon and my ram 2500 which are both 4x4. All the vehicles have a quality set of ATs on.

will there be an off road test? Otherwise, a very good and knowledgable review. Please give your opinion of the awd on this vs. the awd on a forester.
Crazy to see car companies doing away with CD players already. I know CDs don't sell as well anymore but not everybody was born after 2000.
I thought the same thing when I bought my car, but I've found I don't miss them. Bluetooth and setting up playlists on my iPhone seems to work. If you have a smart phone, it's not that hard to set up.
+datboiwes333 I have not used a CD in my cars since 2008
+ganthc yes thats true I use bluetooth in my car but I also still like to use CDs. It's not that much of a big deal the more I think about it.
+ganthc ditto. Though I eschew from wifi in my car since that's hackable. Can't have that. That and I keep all my CDs at home in on a shelf after their burned on my computer.
+datboiwes333 why put money into manufacturing a 100,000 unnecessary, undemanded part
The 8-way power driver seat is fine when it is working. The FCA Italian SUV has a recurring power problem that prevents the use of the 8-way and lumbar functions.
Good review! I also noticed another Easter Egg in the interior: "Since 1941" is in the old Army font that they used to stamp the vehicles with "U.S. Army"
did it really "literally made you ears bleed"? because if so thats probably disconcerting and probably cause for a recall since that is real damage done to the body
You should rent one of those jeeps and roll down the back windows. The buffeting is... man it's indescribably amazing. It feels like your head is seriously going to explode. It can't be exaggerated.
@@CalvinHikes I want to say every 4 door on planet earth has this issue m8
Hey Sofyan, I know you've been very busy, but I was wondering if you're able to review the 2016 Lexus es 350 as well as the 2016 accord touring v6. I understand if not, but I prefer seeing your reviews compared to most other channels. Thanks
If you look when the hatch is open, the middle back seat does look like it folds down independently, and it has cup holders from the look of it.
I wish it was showing off road abilities. I need it to get to a fire lookout I work at, in Wyoming, rocky, steep, but not outrageous. Wondering if it would do the job?
Love the color.
That model does have a rear arm rest with cup holders, you can see it when the cargo area is reviewed
This 9 speed transmission is a deal killer for me, so is the motor.
That tick in the engine sounds like it's sick. I think you will be doing timing chains often on this thing.
I noticed you said there's no armrest, but the back of the center seat can fold down, giving you a large arm rest and two cup holders.
There actually is a armrest for the rear seats. Go to 14.22 and you can clearly see cup holders.
Haha that’s the channel I always listen to!
You have some good details in the review but missed some big ones. Most noticeably was you saying it does not have a rear seat arm rest... Lol you can see it with cup holders from the rear hatch view! Just pull it down. Also that 10 sec zero to 60 is wrong.
But again, some really good other details.
19:05 That's because it doesn't use 1st gear. It only uses 1st gear when you specifically tell it to, otherwise it starts off in 2nd, giving you that 4-speed auto tall gearing feel. With a spread of a whopping 9.80, it was either gear it so tall that it would never use 9th, or gear it so short that it would never use first, and Jeep took the latter route.
Now I know what I want. Thank you!!!
Ok here in UK 🇬🇧.. I purchased a 2017 trailhawk November last year , this winter we have had over a foot of snow , and I have had cooper ATT discoverer fitted prior to this snow hitting us.. I have tried to get the jeep stuck .. ! Bit every time it just keeps on going... im saying I parked it in 2foot High snow drifts and pulled off road on snow soft wet verges where your angled from the road . Upwards of a foot deep and ive had no wheel spin that would suggest im in trouble .. all I can say is .. the renegade is a seriously good little 4x4 .. here in UK 🇬🇧.. I have the 2 litre 170bhp Trailhawk.. I've had subaru forester , and Mercedes gl ..suv .. the jeep is miles apart from those .. if I could pick one thing that I would prefer and thats more ground clearance .. and bigger wheels and tyres .. it runs 215/60 r 17 .. I feel that 225/ 60 on 18 would be an improvement with 10inch ground clearance being better . Its still exceptionally capable even with what it has in Trailhawk spec.. I love it .
I have this same one and I love it.
Hi, do you love your vehicle? I’m thinking about purchasing one. Is it reliable? Any issues?
@@sabrinacollins4329 did you get it?
@@Beaneabean Yes, I did. Got it in May and love it!
Where I live I could get a 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero (Montero) fully loaded for 29900 USD. and the Pajero eats jeeps for breakfast when it comes to off-roading (exclusion is the Wrangler). and on the road it is relatively pretty civilised... I really liked the design of the renegade, but it was let down by its crazy price tag... great thorough review BTW.
If you had to choose between the Fiat 500X and this Renegade, which would you choose? I'm debating between the two!!
This is the car the Kim Kapetanakos might like.
My sister test drove a 2015 Jeep Renegade Sport she said the sport model she said the seats were very hard. Also she just really did not enjoyed it as she was hoping it would. Also she did not like the way the engine sounded and she said it was kind of under power and had to put her foot on it to get it up to speed. Also she was not a fan of the 9 speed auto transmission too. So she did not liked the Jeep as much as she hoping for. But at the end she ended up getting a 2015 Toyota RAV4 XLE AWD. And she loves it.
Definitely the better choice. If this Renegade is anything like last years, transmission issues for sure.
Yeah also they need to put a V6 engine in it too since it needs more power too.
She might have tested the one with the 1.4L engine instead of the 2.4L
Nope she test drove the 2.4L cuz you can't get the 1.4 with the 9 speed auto. Plus i did looked under the hood and it was the 2.4 inline 4. It was not only the engine she said she did not like the Transmission going into gears, Also she said that the ride was very rough. Also the seats did not very good at all.
@@Shane101A Definitely not the better choice. Rav4 has the garbage CVT transmission designed to break at around 70k miles so you will have to buy a new vehicle. Planned obseilescence.
Redline reviews can you help me with the best small suv? I'm looking for a 2012 Nissan rogue but i heard the Toyota rav4 and the honda crv and the ford escape is better. please help me i am looking for a used small suv.
he says the 9 speed auto is clunky at acceleration others suggest you set it in SPORT mode and go from there as that dial setting has better higher speed road manners .
Can you review 2nd gen Scion xB? Great fan
thank you so much for your opinion I am very interested.
Good Review Sofyan!!! I think they should put a larger engine and reprogram that transmission so it get out of its own way. Also, it needs to be put on a diet. 10 seconds is pretty bad when may small/compact sedans are doing 0-60 in under 9 or 8 even.
does anyone know when this/if this will get Apple Carplay? I am not finding info online.
Its great to see you doing jeeps, I love jeeps, but this isn't my idea of jeep...Will you be able to do something like the grand Cherokee or a wrangler Rubicon? As always though, great video, and keep up the awesome work!
+Ben McBain I actually love Jeeps, especially the Wrangler. I have a Cherokee scheduled for next month. Hopefully, I can squeeze in a Wrangler and Grand Cherokee soon! -Sofyan

there's no labels to the back steering wheel controls???? what are you gonna be looking behind the steering wheel when driving?
Actually Patriot has sold rather well at retail the last few years. It had its biggest year ever last year at over 128,00 units in North America.
Love the reviews. What kind of Mazda do you drive Sofyan?
The Greatest miata
It sounds good. I drove a Chrysler 200 yesterday idk what your problem is the acceleration is good
They're complaining about the older models which they haven't tried yet
Update?
I really like jeep renegade

I'm always getting track hawk mix with Trail hawk
By the way, he's actually wrong about the backseat, with either the Leather group or the Popular Equipment group, the backseat is a 40/20/40 with a fold down arm rest. You can see at 14:05 there are cupholders on the back of the seat.
I like this lil jeep :) lol
"Literally made my ears bleed?" Seriously! God I hate people using "literally" for everything!

so far in 2019 you just see these cars everywhere you go, there so popular, cheap new cars.
Love that intro song. Does it have a title ?
I have this model "the Trailhawk" 2018 model and it looks slightly different inside, especially the dashboard, and also my rims are all black instead of the chrome on them.
And they left off the "Since 1941" logo as well. The 2018's don't have as much character and are more rugged looking.
The sistem is compatible with apple car play?
I want to see a review of the new Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid
Having the 2.0 turbo, an improved transmission, two-speed 4WD, and better small overlap protection would make this car much better.
I Liked your review. Would you consider reviewing the new 2019 renegade Trailhawk with the new 1.3 turbo engine. I’m curious to see if you think there’s a difference.
There is a difference. Jeep made the engine much smaller then slapped a "turbo" label on it and called it an "upgrade"......less horsepower and WAY too small for the weight of the Jeep Renegade. Not an "upgrade" but all the dumb sheeple think it is. They take a screwing from these scheisters and LIKE it, while the sleazy car makers keep getting richer producing increasingly INFERIOR products.
In 2 more years it will have a garbage "1 speed automatic" CVT transmission. Guaranteed. Same thing they did to the Kia Souls. Ruined them.
The trailhawk is so damn heavy because it has plates protecting the bottom important parts so if you take it off trail, I think just those plates alone are like 500 pounds.... The other trims of the renegade don't have that extra weight.
The top of the line is the Desert Hawk but luxury one is the limited. Not the Trail Hawk like mine
The 2016 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk SUV has a recurring power seat problem that prevents the use of the 8-way and lumbar functions. The problem causes the driver seat to freeze and lock into a position on the seat floor tracks. This could create a serious problem in the event of an emergency. The dealer service department is clueless on fixing the problem.
kia soul on roids
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Literally made your ears bleed.... so you're saying that it actually burst your eardrum? Either that or you don't understand the word 'literally'.
Renegade Trailhawk (2.0 MultiJet) is in Europe enorm criticised because of his Diesel consumption. What is your opinion? Does Renegade really consume the Diesel/Gasoline mass, which promised on the vehicle data report? Urban/Extra Urban/combined -> 7,0/5,2/5,9 (L/100 km) [European] Or what promised on paper is different than the real life again? :-)
What is that intro music it's awesome
I heard about 2015 renegade but can you of Mercedes Benz new car is the 2016 metris can you review the next video
I had this vehicle for about 6 months then decided to trade it in due to spending way too much on gas. That’s really the one of the only few things I hated about the renegade. If you drive mainly around town like I do be prepared to fill up every 4-6 days a week in gas. It’s HORRIBLE city wise. Highway mpg is really good, but again, I rarely use the highway so it was pretty horrible on gas. Plus Jeep needs to put in a bigger gas tank in the vehicle since it doesn’t average that much mpg. 12.2 gallon tank is way too small. Also hope the 2019 version is much more up to date technology wise as well. The nine speed transmission isn’t all that fun either
Maybe don’t buy a 4x4 crossover if your main concern is fuel efficiency?
@@samiAK813 it wasn’t a 4x4 and the engine and transmission has proven to be garbage. A small little box of a car gets the same mpg as a pick up… yeah no thanks
Please test a Subaru Crosstrek when possible. Would like your opinion / comparison regarding with the Jeep and Subaru. Another great review.
Garbage CVT in the Subaru Crosstrek. Wouldn't have one if it they gave it to me. Would sell it to some idiot who doesn't have a clue about these garbage transmissions. I wish they would get a clue, maybe these car makers would stop putting out this garbage.
@@reesedaniel5835 The CVT is the Subaru's are pretty decent. Jeep are junk in general.
please do the 2018 with the new center console and glassroof. the transmission is suppose to be better.
Want to see Sofyan review a Mitsubishi Mirage just for the laughs lol
My future car
can you review the new rav4 Hybrid
that's Justin's jeep from jstustudios
What's the engine in it?
The Jeep is slow but the the tranny seem to have shifted pretty smooth in the review. But it does need to be floored occasionally and there's where problems or perceptions can manifest. The 9 speed has to think and shift more gears then a 6 speed so yeah, it's different.
Based on this review, it seems that the renegade accelerates and handles about as well (if not identically) to the 2.4L, 6 speed Compass/Patriot. I like the way it looks but not everyone will agree. The Compass (which needs to be retired) is well more comfortable and spacious. I'd say this is more of the same repackaged in a quirkier body. I like it but it's still too close to the other crossovers at the moment. Unless they upgrade the off road capabilities and speed, it's not going to sell even as well as the more palatable Compass which can be had for a song right now. I'm excited to see what becomes of the Renegade over the next few years.
Plenty of videos online showing the Renegade going off road.. It's no Wrangler, but it's not bad.. (And if you want Wrangler performance, you should probably buy a Wrangler.. ;-) Daystar makes a lift kit for it if you want to get more serious... Its not too shabby...
The Compass is going to be retired after this year.
I agree about the Compass. It's ugly as a mud fence as well. However, you are wrong about the Renegades not selling well, at least as far as the 4x4s and Trailhawks go. They FLY off the dealer lots in my area. Ive been trying to buy a Trailhawk or a nicely equipped 4x4 Lattitude or Sport for 2 months now. Before I can get to the lot to look at it, it's SOLD. Nothing left but the 2x4 versions in my area or high mileage 4x4s. It seems everybody and their mamma wants the same thing I want: A Jeep Renegade Trailhawk. They were everywhere online before I decided I wanted one, then suddenly POOF, they all vanished, one by one. So irritating. The closest one to me now is 5 hours away.
@@reesedaniel5835 I was proven dead wrong from four years ago... they did NOT retire the Compass but completely revamped it. It’s actually pretty awesome. The Renegades are holding their own, especially the 4x4s and higher trim levels, like you said. If I was buying a first car and couldn’t afford a Wrangler, I’d buy a Renegade. If I was buying a family car and couldn’t afford a Grand Cherokee (which I can’t), I’d buy a Compass (which I did). I still bet the Compass’ sell better than the Renegades. It’s probably a regional thing. Depends where you live. Nonetheless, I appreciate both models.
15:15 is that rod knock?
You should review the Toyota 4Runner.
Many of the Jeep owners I know have not matured beyond high school. That being stated, an old CJ would be cool to mess around with.
I like the look of the old CJs but they are like driving and riding in a log wagon. Horrible.
