These fights are getting dangerously close to looking like fights
Yeah nothing screams "intense battle" like a sword moving 7km/h

with the shoving, tackles knockdowns and jabs it’s definitely the closest for medieval combat game. for honor season 1 and 2 aswell but it quickly turned into mortal kombat with characters that have shadowsteps, poison daggers and i think they have a pirate now sigh
@@itchin4scratches I disagree. Hellish quart is so much more accurate, chiv and mordhau are super awkward compared to our sparring in HEMA
@@brenbail2000 no knockdowns in those games though, i like it when i get knocked to the ground from a tackle or shield bash. all medieval games lacking ground mechanics. looking like fights is a long way to go so anything that comes remotely close im very attracted to. fencing is a competition sport nothing like a fight, but yea hellish quart best fencing game ever made easily.

You mightve already figured this out before my comment but ill say it incase you havent. After you hit someones parry, if you combo, you can basically instantly cancel the swing at any time with no delay into a parry or a dodge. The reason he knew to combo against you when you did the special is actually that he didn't, he knows you are being a bit slow and can safely combo and eat any stamina loss for canceling to parry. Against an aggressive player you could still do this but it would be a waste of stamina at the end of the day. tldr: he can swing like an animal and react to anything you do as you do it, letting the swing fly to beat your slow option or canceling it to defend your fast one

thats so weird tho. maybe why i dont seem to understand initiative in this game.

Honestly good to see you having fun even if Chivalry 2 is more arcade-like.
At the highest level this game isn't about hitting your opponent. It's about running them out of stamina. At a certain level everyone is damn near unhittable. They can read kicks, feints, accels, drags, etc. Whoever runs out of stam first, loses.
1 correction, they don't read feints but if they fall for it they just feint-match to avoid taking damage
@@Stouty Exactly right. At the end of the day the name of the game is stamina management. I honestly stopped feinting nearly as much as I used to (looks like you've come to a similar conclusion). I now instead weave in special attacks to try to bleed their stamina faster, and use pause delays to get them to gamble. Mixed results, but trading overhead to alt overhead drags all day long gets boring when nobody ever really falls for it.
This is my number one gripe with the game, it just feel like you have to do some much work and swinging about just to get some damage. Makes it slow and monotonous after a while
but so is mordhau right? everything is readable at the highest level
@@Phanterus nobody can read every feint in mordhau and usually falling for a feint results in damage

I really miss ducking under swings in this game. The hitboxes feel so janky sometimes its maddening
I mean you can duck still under swings but you have to do it while pressing A or D or S(Left, right and back ) but you are right it is janky and very relying on the ping too and timing it
I only reliably pull off ducking when there is a terrain difference, otherwise this game seems to favor spacing much more
it also comes down to people not aiming for the head at all
You can still do this, just crouch and look at the ground.
@@aughhaughhaughh there seems to be little incentive to aim for head. people just aim for center mass, or low/high to get around block. The only time I see people target head specifically is with pointy stab weapons who tend to stab spam. Otherwise its pretty wild, all over the place swings.

brilliant sound design to grunt on feint, such a nice addition to the melee slasher genre, i hope we will see it in every single one from now on :)
It has been since Chiv 1, was in Mordhau as well just not very useful due to how fast the accels were
why did you do this...you said you wouldn't...
Id love to see like a ‘arena’ mode in this game like the armored core games.
Master of jank
feint into stab or riposte stab beats counterbots and the optimal pubway to play is to use a polearm and do stab charge attacks and run away like youre playing curling or someshit
My issue with the game right now is the turncap with overheads, stabs, and now specials. I'm a console player and I've heard its better on PC, but it just feels like my stabs and ohs are slow as molasses. It's so irritating countering somebody's slash and feinting for a oh to then miss because they're just circling around me slashing. Plus I can't change fov in 1st person and I despise 3rd lol.

nah, always said Mordhau was better for high level combat but neither game cares much about that audience
Did anyone else go back to mordhau and kept holding parry by accident? Also same as many level 203 on mord so it’s hard break muscle memory I never played the original chiv
you couldnt hold block on chiv 1 either.
its weird to see how little kicks and jabs are used, im not a pro by any means and dont *really* know what the gameplan is, but i thought kicks and jabs would be a bigger part of it.
kicks only really catch noobs, jab is good after someone's taken damage
@@Stouty I've found that if my duels go on too long with someone I am more likely to kill them by abusing jabs than attacks. Worth it to use a fast 1h weapon and jabs for that reason but it makers countering a pain due to shorter window.
@@Stouty kicks are niche, in duels it’s very hard because people can solely focus on you and counter or turn away, jabs are where it’s at though

Don’t you think this game looks clunky as hell? They literally brought back 360 swings from chiv
IMO it still looks miles better than Chiv 1 or Mordhau... And in any case you are never gonna see a game in this genre that looks like real swordfighting, it's simply not possible
Somebody know the song at 1:50 sound familiar but i cannot remember
The combat is so ugly. Mordhau dragging looked weird but the fights were infinitely more fluid and nice.
Agree, also in Mordhau the actual sword had to hit the enemy, in Chiv it feels a bit weird, it feels like the attack animation has to connect and not the sword itself
I thought this game looks better than mordhau on all aspects
The comp on this game sucks 😩😩😩
1:11 most legendary chiv 2 fight iv'e seen
How many mouse space have guys to make 360?
those the witcher 1 soundtracks 😊
The held parry just makes the combat so dry imo, reading doesn't seem to exist. Am I wrong?
Well holding parry drains your stam fast af I think it should be even quicker but its definitely punishing as it is
Held parry works fine in this game, the bigger problem IMO is how counters require no reading at all to be done, because you can just feint your counter to another one. Counters giving you your stamina back while also preventing you from getting hit makes every fight look like these ones. Super tedious battles of endurance. Also kicks are too slow to be useful against good player most of the time. Between infinite countering and shitty kicks, you can't really go for hard reads or anything, it's just like mordhau where the question is, "who will fuck up their stamina management first"
^ 100% agree with the above, but I'd also say that jabs (supposedly your tool for breaking these stalemates by interrupting attacks/combos) feel far too short-ranged and incredibly inconsistent. In case you dont know; jabs essentially took the place of when you'd kick to interrupt an attack in Mordhau (as kicks do not interrupt in Chiv 2 and only break held blocks), but they just end up being super risky and only really getting you 10 damage at most against a good player. They also have very janky hitboxes. What's more, the recovery from a jab is super fast, too fast for a lot of weapons to get a swing in to punish. Not a worthy trade, seeing as they might just block and counter it or just move back like half a foot and render your jab utterly useless. But the worst factor is that you can't feint a counter into a jab, only a riposte or block. So they become EVEN MORE inefficient as you have to lose a huge chunk of stamina in order to pull one off, only to probably get 10 damage in IF your enemy falls for it. I feel making jabs more useful could really reduce the length of these long stalemates seen in the current combat while retaining the overall feeling TB is clearly going for. When it works, this combat looks like a fight and is amazing. At high levels however, you get what you saw in the vid. Looks cooler and is less infuriating to come up against than Mord's weird wiggling imo, but tedious to play after a while. Also holy shit but counter-feinting is incredibly annoying. Would be interesting to see how different the combat would be without it! Tl;dr: Play team objective. Have fun. Tryharding can only lead to sadness.
@@bonehed1 Disagree on mordhau being a stamina game. If you know how to do mixups you can force people to read feints and drags/accels. Although in exchange drags and accels are dumb.
On a sad note, the Rhodok Bonk only works sometimes and not all the time.

It's actually sad to see and hear that Chivalry 2 has no future in the competitive scene. Those animations look fucking awful.
I'm honestly convinced that some people increased the sensitivity of their turn and look speed because I once caught a dude off guard in a free-for-all no honor game who was busy fighting someone else *and the dude turned around as if he knew I was coming even when I was sneaking my way to them without making any noise whatsoever.*
Maybe he had shadows on

My takeaway from this video: Stouty can't get top tier at Chiv2 therefore none of us peasants should even try. Not sure this was the message you were trying to convey but that's what came across.
wait, how many hours do you think I have in chiv 2?
@@Stouty I assume not a substantial amount, especially compared to other youtubers/streamers. I don't think playtime is especially relevant though; I'd wager I've put a lot more hours into the game than you have (been playing consistantly since open beta) and yet I wouldn't consider myself as good as you. You're an incredibly skilled player in the genre, no arguments there, but I was surprised by some of the comments you made towards comp dueling and just felt this video came off a little salty.
@@kurai7497 I have like 60 hours, to suggest I couldn't get top tier is pretty laughable seeing as there's only like 100 comp players to begin with (that I'm already getting kills on). My record in chiv1 / mordhau is near unparalleled but I see no reason to waste more energy attempting to dominate a 3rd title with no comp potential (it doesn't even have passwords on tourney servers)
@@Stouty I'm not suggesting anything, you yourself said not to bother trying to get good and just stick to having fun in TO matches; I just personally felt like you were projecting a message that you perhaps didn't mean to. Like I said, I know you to be an extremely skilled player in the genre and I'm very aware of your career in other titles. Chiv2 is messy as hell, you're right to point out the state of the servers, but to declare the game has no comp potential before it's even had a chance to get off the ground seems a little unfair. If it's something you don't want to invest your time in then that's your perogative but it doesn't therefore mean that nobody else should. Keep having fun in TO, maybe I'll see you on the battlefield and you can smack me about.
@@kurai7497 Well you said "I can't" get top tier when chances are I most certainly could were I willing to put the time in. As someone that is not only experienced in the melee genre but also with Torn Banner, this warning I'm giving to the comp potential will age extremely well, I have no doubt. Things that are currently missing: private servers, passworded servers, a game mode, well structured mechanics that operate at all levels of play, ranked with mmr, leaderboards (the list goes on)
This game is cool but man I miss Mordhau, this doesn’t feel as smooth and fast paced At least the devs can work on this so it could get better
Stouty you're good at Mordhau where you have to move your mouse fast and feint. Chivalry 2 is completely different with phantoms, you won’t be particularly surprised there, you need to block correctly and follow the weapon by choosing the right non-standard directions of blows. Chambers are a stamina saver, but there is no point in constantly spamming them, dodging is an important detail.
really wish instead of "swing manipulation", trying to actually hit your target in the center of your swing (where your attack is strongest), would be way more interesting, which forces your opponent to step into or away from the strike.

The most frustrating thing is that I can't even tell is Dog best dueler or not, where the fuck is this "skill ceiling" in Chiv 2. I wanted to reach it at first or be near it cuz game was very kind to noobs, but the more I played duels the further this ceiling seemed to be. I git gut, think I am on honorable level in 2handed weapon fight and then some guy takes rapier or damn spear and that's it "5/0 gotta go" Maybe the way to win is to be "dumb and happy" with funny TO maps and not thinking about "personal skill" at all (not to mention that I can't equal playing Chiv to a work day and play 8 hours daily)
