SHOCKING POKER CHEATING: Why Everyone Is Freaking Out About Mike Postle
Mike Postle has had an incredible string of wins on the live streamed cash games at Stones Hall in California. In fact, it's drawn suspicions and accusations that he may have been cheating all this time. Today we're going to do a deep dive into the evidence and take a look at some of the insane poker hands that caused so much controversy.

Just folding AK on a K84 flop to one bet is enough evidence for me
Agreed. If he does that then his stats should have him as a losing player, not winning every session
I'll admit I'm an idiot, but *in isolation* and without seeing the full hand it doesn't seem THAT unreasonable... it looks like Postle raises $160 from HJ, cutoff calls, and then gets jammed on by BB. That's a pretty polarizing move by BB. I could accept a tight laydown, especially if the all-in is a nitty player and with the caller left to act behind me in position with another pot-sized bet behind(?) But when combined with all of the other evidence, yeah, there's definitely something highly suspicious going on.
That’s definitely the smoking gun! This guy deserves to get called out by Doug and surprised that this pond life isn’t blacklisted immediately
graphics must've been wrong there and he didn't have AK.....right??..riiiiiight..
Yeah, that play obviously loses a ton in the long run. Meanwhile, he's running like a God. Hmmm...

It’s incredibly disturbing that there’s a cell phone at the table in the first place! All cell phones should be banned from any poker tables in competition. This accountability is due to lack of rules and enforcement which is total stupidity
If you truly consider it though, their 220BBwin per 100 hands is only over a 15hr period. Live poker is absolutely nothing like online poker - most of the people analyzing are experts in online play. However, in live games with big rakes and tips you really do have to play riskier, larger pots. That's most especially true at stakes between 5/10 and 1/2, where most live poker players learned how to play poker at. Statistics alone aren't at all proof that someone is cheating.. but it can be evidence. In this case? It's only 15 hours. You cannot make assumptions like that on such a small sample size, let alone make accusations and huge controversy out of it.

Why ban cell phones at a personal game? If the cards are not being read by a censor or a camera what danger does a cell phone cause?
Players getting together to split winnings afterwards and one person can let the other know what they had and so on. The more info you have on a hand the better you can understand the odds of what you are playing against.
The commentators were surely in on it. Folding top pair top kicker on a completely harmless flop is just insane. If Postle had been not complete doorknob, he would call here in order to keep the con going a little longer.

Here in Australia, you're not allowed to pull out your phone at the table. Pretty common sense rule.

You can not cheat in a tournament game unless you have inside help. His behavior is suspicious enough to where any one should have called for an investigation. I ran poker games in Moscow for 12 years, I NEVER allowed mobile phones on the table, i dont care how much the players scream and yell, its asking for trouble. This came about from personal experience on a BJ table, when phones were allowed, the phone was left flat on the table with the camera pointed at the dealers hands, the dealer was holding the cards rather high so thet the camera could read the dealt cards clearly , this was relayed to an accomplice sitting in a car outside then relayed to a hiden microphone in the players ear . The player was now winning $100,000 before someone (im not sure who it was ) at the table realised, I was on the poker table. This was Moscow, so lets say the player was escorted by " security" outside to the accomplice in the car , they were forced to repay the $100,000 and i believe a hefty fine was imposed of $50,000, Cheaper than the potential hospital bills . Anyway that started the ban on mobile phones on the gaming tables , there were only mild complaints. To me its disrespectful to other players using a phone on the table and completely uneccessary

Good point. He's supposedly reading people, yet all he ever looks at during the hand is his chips or his phone.
His greed got him caught. If he hadn't won so much, so fast, and played in a way where it was obvious that he knew his opponents hands, it's unlikely that anyone would have found out.
A smart person doesn't have to cheat to be profitable
But he wasn't only cheating for himself. There were others in on the scam, and they had to be paid as well. So the incentive was to try to wring as much money out as possible.
just soon or later
The hands you point out where he seems to know he's beat are interesting. 18:35The first hand where he folds top pair to the straight we need to know how much the bet on the turn was. If it was an overpot bet from a conservative player he could suspect that this player has the straight, or at least 2 pair or hit a set. It depends on how high the bet is relative to the pot and the behavior of the player making the bet throughout the night. 18:40 is interesting, but again, how much is the bet he folds to relative to the pot and how has this player been playing up to that point. If it is a fairly conservative player making a bet that's way over the pot you can put that player on having hit a pocket pair and fold AK. Even a pot sized bet from a conservative player who has bet top pair wins at half pot or less earlier, making a pot sized bet could indicate that he's hit a set. The call may not be as unusual as it seems. In fact, the guy with the set pushed all in. It looks like Apostle raised, was reraised and then the guy with the set pushed. This is actually a fairly easy fold. You can put the reraise or the all in on a flush draw. But you also have to put one of them on something better than top pair to justify that kind of action. This isn't a good example either. It's actually an easy fold. 19:00 The 5 K K Q flop depends on the behavior of the opponent as well. In the hand, they both check on the flop. Joe may be slow playing a set on the flop. Then Joe makes a small bet which means either he has the set and doesn't want Postle to fold, or he wants to make it seem that way because he wants Postle to fold so he can take the pot. Postle reraises two bets over which in that situation means either he has the K and wants to get value while he has Joe on the hook, or he wants to make it look that way to bluff the pot. Joe calls on the flush draw. On the river Joe checks. Joe could be checking because he has the king and wants Postle to bet into it. It may also mean he has the queen but doesn't know if Postle has the king. Of course it can also mean he tried to buy the pot on the turn with a small be to make it seem like he hit the set, and when he was raised he called on a flush draw. If he hit the queen he may not have called since he'd be drawing dead against the kings that postle could have. At the river you know he doesn't have the king because if he did he would have reraised Postle on the turn. Based on his behavior in the hand it is easy to put him on a missed flush draw without a pair. The preflop raise means there is a good chance he has an Ace. Ace Jack or Ace 10 of clubs at best where he may have called a potential set on a flush draw plus a possible straight draw. It isn't hard to put him on Ace high which means it makes sense to value bet the river because Joe is likely to call. Joe may think Postle tried to buy the pot on the turn and he also missed the board but without an Ace. There's nothing unusal about this play either.

Doug, how are they seeing the player's hole cards? Are there cameras in front that read them or is it some sort of scanning system of the cards? If it's the old camera at table format, what can't the players just refuse to show the camera their cards? That then removes the possibility of someone feeding him the info digitally

With the RFID on the cards, this could be done very easily. A smart phone can be used to read RFID codes by using an app. Use the app to read the IDS and match them to the cards so you know which is which. Gaining this information you then use an RFID transmitter to change the cards displayed. This gives him the option to show different cards than what he has. I am by no means an electronic expert, but in the past year I have been working with Arduino micro controllers and have been working specifically with RFID based electronics for using a key card to access my house, so I do have some background in working with RFID.
The host is almost as sarcastic as me. Keep up the good work.
No casino type games that involve money should be live streamed. They should all be delayed at least 10 minutes to ensure there is no inappropriate tech involvement. Also no electronic devices should be allowed at a table including music players and headphones. There's always a chance that someone could be feeding information to the players thru the devices
Dude, live streaming broadcast software has had delays for years, why a TO would opt not to use it is beyond me... Texting opposing players’ hands is so possible and I believe he had help. And maybe a card or two. Who knows. I’d immediately ban phones and have all hands above the table to counter these attempts.

I still get pissed about this two years later. Just ridiculous cheating
This is quickly going to become Doug's most watch video.
*watched
Now that he’s “exposed”, let’s see if he continues his “winning streak”. That’ll give us the truth...
Wont prove a thing unless he gets caught redhanded.
@@darwinmac4967 but if all of a sudden he turns into the average decent poker player, instead of an amazing, read everything poker player, it would definitely confirm that something is going on. But why not just have a tournament official walk over to him right when he is looking at his phone and see what he is looking at, seems simple to me. Or ask him to show his phone, and even if he refuses, he is at least now going to know he is being watched and probably cut back on doing it.
Has he played since being exposed?
Malek Haddad we already know he’s cheating. It’s very obvious
@@joecoolioness6399 lol legally that doesn’t really mean anything. The only way legal action can be taken is if they catch him in the act or people come out and say they knew about it
Thats how I used to cheat on my spelling tests in elementary school, had the words written on a paper and put it between my legs!! Hahaha
Can someone explain what’s going on about 20 minutes in when they’re talking about how “the graphics were wrong” ??? I didn’t understand that part.
The viewers were not seeing the correct card the players had in that hand on the screen, the graphics showd the wrong cards
Basically, the idea would be that if Stones is in on the cheating, they can actually change which cards we think he has So like in this scenario, his actual cards were a pure bluff, but on stream they lied to say “actually, he has a straight, but our technology messed up” The thing is, his opponent ends up folding, so he never has to show anyone his physical cards. We just have to take the stream’s word for it that “oh, our RFID chips got the cards ‘wrong’ at first, but then we ‘fixed’ the issue” (which literally doesn’t make sense from a technical standpoint, especially without them even touching the cards)
"it doesn't seem funny now"
GTO is really OPTIMAL if you know the other player's cards
Someone was texting him and informing him about the hand of other players…..if this was live streamed or if his spotters were in the audience
As an outsider looking in, seems pretty dumb that ANY game of poker allows a cellphone or any similar electronic device at the table. Feels like Day 1 type of stuff right there.
i feel like literally everyone missed that epic RAP GOD part of ingram. thats some epic video editing over there!
I put that on replay. Watched it like 6 times
I just found myself re-watching this video after just watching it an hour ago. I really enjoy all the content your create, though poker topics are my favorite. These news vids, aswell as your other stuff is just pure entertaining. You're a goddamn entertainer Doug. Much love.
What was the outcome of the hand where he called the two A-Ks when he had 5-4 off ? Did I miss it? Only saw the pre flop call, does he beat the A-Ks?
Here is a quick fix.. A localized cell blocker at the table itself. Anything within 5 feet of the table gets zero signal. Blocks msgs and calls .. it is a paperweight at the table.. step away to use it.. You test the hands played . Do not tell its being used.. intermittently in series of hands turn it on or off. And watch the results...watch the players. Statistical data will not lie. I would say its very most likely he is not streaming to get the results. He has someone feeding him info.. could be msgs or being sent by an app directly device to device. He is being fed the info and it has to be someone there.
The clips of Joey are too funny. Thanks again for your hard work Doug.
I find it amazing that he got away with it for one second. He never should have been allowed to use any electronics during a game.
I just recognized its a picture of Vanessa Selbst behind you on the wall! Wooohooooo!
I’ve played some wild hands with nothing until until the turn because I just knew the outcome was in my favor. I trust myself enough to not lose, but I am playing casual weekend players not pros
When u were fake laughing over the 'angle' u had me lmao!!😂
Someone on the show is definitely in on this scam. Guys in the booth are way too jolly about this obviously weird behavior
Robert S The facts are overwhelming in favor of cheating but I can't believe that the announcers are in on it. I mean they've been through so many people in that booth. At some point there would have been a whistleblower sooner. Just my opinion. Doesn't change fact that someone else is definitely involved.
@@kingsfan4evr24 not necessarily a commentator or guest but someone on the production team for the show is either feeding him information from the rfid hand display or he's somehow rigged his phone to do so
@@kingsfan4evr24 Somebody talk to Alex Fitzgerald -- his guest commentating was fantastic and entertaining but I wonder if he ever heard or saw anything about this during his time there...
The Manhattan Project. Thousands of people working on it for years and years, and not a single peep.
Im new to poker so this will prob sound dumb but since it says it's LIVE could he be watching it on his phone to see the other players hands or talking with someone that is ? ✌🏽
Perhaps… Usually they put these things on a 5-10 minute delay for that reason, but I’m not familiar with this particular stream
@@Muhahahahaz thank you for your reply 👍🏽
They should put this man at the table with Negreanu, Phil Helmuth etc. and let’s see how he does
