  • Irish here. Great analysis, thanks. What a boon for Ireland, down Sexton and Hansen, Crowley and Nash, and then the incredible McCarthy, get blooded in the biggest of tests. France were off, yes but Ireland should have had two more tries and I see Ireland even improving their close quarters, sleight of hands style. France's muscle was left flat footed and defensively we were great. Ireland really enjoying their game .. and that is huge! Lots of outstanding individual displays and I agree 'Johhny who?!', not so much because Crowley is his equal but because the team as a whole is sharing the responsibility so we are weaning ourselves off that over-dependence on the fly half. It's our Grand Slam to lose now ... first back to back Grand Slam in the modern era is there for the taking.

    • @@TheBlackJersey Hopefully so. Although, this time around we were the only team to actually beat the eventually winners, and a whisker away from a semi final, and probable final. Ireland have beaten all the other top teams multiple times in the last handful of years and were one of the favourites for a reason. Not sure why is should be bridge too far for us moreso than anybody else

  • Think people are making a way bigger deal of the NZ loss than it was, NZ put in their best performance of the WC and arguably the best of the WC cycle along with the SA game at Mt Smart to beat them by less than a score. Ireland were about 2 inches from winning that game with Kelleher being held up over the line. Had they won that game they could easily have gone all the way and won the WC.

They kept very calm and kept playing their high paced multi phase attack. The players making their 6 nations debut were excellent. They made mistakes but that didnt seem to rattle them and they just stayed calm. Finally, big joe, not seen a man ofthat size move so fast. He was using footwork instead of just bulk to beat defenders

  • Fair Play to Ireland. They were clearly the better team and they deserve that W. Mr. Dickson reffering was on point too imo. I don't know I'm kinda shellshocked. I wasn't confident before the match but I clearly wasn't expecting this horrible match from my team even without Dupont, Ntamack, Jelonch, Flament, Meafou...etc. It was like watching France from the 2012-2019 era, not the ones from the last 4 years. I don't know if the new staff got weaker, if the players are mainly to blame for this or it's a mix of the two because it was horrendous to watch. Willemse, Moefana, Lucu, Jalibert & Fickou especially really were a shadow of their former self on the pitch. I will continue to support & watch them but yeah I lowkey kinda lost interest in the tournament after that since I don't see anyone coming close to Ireland and I think it will be a really long tournament for us. When you add that heavy loss to the 1/4 exit we had (both at home) it hurts too much. I think the players still feel it as well.

A plan was put in place back in 2016 to ensure Ireland generates waves of talent. Considering that the u20s have won back to back grandslams it is obvious that this plan is starting to take effect.

The first yellow was a straight red imo. Willemse was clearing out, not tackling, and the Irish player did not dip. I also think the ref tried to balance the books after the red card, penalising Ireland for infringements that he had previously let slide re. France and also giving penalties which were flat out not warranted -esp. the 'trip' on a French player going into a ruck. Never a penalty. Ireland look immense: best 15, best second row (Ryan on the bench!) best 12, best 6 in the tournament

      @TheBlackJersey@TheBlackJersey3 ай бұрын
    • @@TheBlackJersey There were no mitigating factors. Porter did not change his height at the last minute, Willemse charged at Porter and led with his shoulder directly onto his head. Here’s why it’s important to discuss it: Not only was it a staggeringly dangerous act of foul play and the yellow card the incorrect decision, by not giving him a red card it meant that he was allowed back on to the field and then he hit Doris on the head. That would not have happened had he been correctly given a red card and remained off the field. World Rugby has a duty of care to players. The yellow card was a disgrace. Any player who commits the offence that Willemse did against Porter should be red carded and receive a lengthy ban. Not allowed back onto the pitch to do it again to someone else.

  • One thing I remember saying at half time while watching this is that France not taking the 3 points each time Ireland gave away a penalty was going to lose them the match - they turned down at least 3-4 kickable penalties in the first half for going for the corner, and managed to convert none of those attacks (I think. The Penaud try might have been off of one of those). Given that Ramos had brought his kicking boots, they effectively turned down a near-guaranteed 9 points (and possibly more as the tension from those penalties could have rattled Ireland) in the first half. Their refusal to take the points offered is what lost them the match, I feel.
