The CZ 82 and CZ 83 are almost identical but have differences. Designed in 1982, the CZ 82 has served the Czech Military 40 years and the CZ 83 is the civilian version. Thanks to AIM Surplus and Fiocchi Ammunition. #CZ83 #CZ82 #Makarov

  • I've had my CZ-82 for just about 20 years now, and it's still my go-to summer carry gun. I'll even carry it in the winter sometimes. With a healthy supply of Hornady defensive ammo (and a tonne of Tula for the range), it's probably the one pistol I'll never get rid of.

After a continued search he stated, "The CZ82 ejects the brass into the next county!" Then, with a much wider search, I also found my brass. It was at least 15 yards away from the shooting position.

  • I got a brand new CZ-83 .32 ACP the last year they were produced, 2013. It has almost doubled in value since then, but I have no intention of selling it. The weight of the gun combined with .32 ACP makes for low recoil. It also allows you to use hot European .32 ACP-like Fiocchi or Sellier & Bellot-with muzzle energy approaching .380 ACP (~179 ft-lbf) but no significant increase in recoil. So you get respectable muzzle energy, low recoil, and a generous 15-round capacity. Love it.

    @476429@4764292 жыл бұрын
    • No problems with rim lock? If a strong load has the same muzzle energy like a .380 than it has the same recoil. There are also 70gr bullets for .380 if both have the same velocity they have both the same recoil. Normaly people think .32 recoil less becaus they are mostly loaded quite weak in general the US brands. A S&B 70gr load of .32 is rated with 1050fps! normaly with US loads its rather around 800.

      @Gieszkanne@Gieszkanne2 жыл бұрын
    • @@Gieszkanne No problem with rim lock when the right ammo is used. The overall length (OAL) of the cartridge plays a big role in rim lock. Rounds measuring .910" or less, typically flat nose or hollow point, are far more prone to rim lock. "Rounds longer than .960" are less prone to rim lock in standard .32 ACP magazines because they fill the front to back space within the magazine and therefore do not slide during firing." European .32 ACP tends to have the highest OAL. Fiocchi, S&B, and Prvi are three with high OALs. Those are the three rounds I use almost exclusively. The only time I experienced rim lock was when I used a U.S. brand of .32 ACP hollow point. Now I stick to the three previously mentioned, and I have no problems at all. Regarding recoil, it is true that cartridges producing the same energy are going to exert the same resulting force on the shooter. However, they can produce differences in the felt recoil impulse depending on the load and the firearm. Power is force divided by time. The rate at which force is transferred plays a role in how recoil is experienced. A higher Rate of Force Development (RFD) will feel more powerful than a lower RFD. Felt recoil also depends on the shape of the RFD curve, whether the rate is highest at the beginning, middle, or end of the impulse. Some people experience a more "snappy" impulse with .380 ACP, even at energy levels similar to .32 ACP's upper limits. The types of powder used and the loading pressure are two factors that play a role in the shape of the RFD curve. If you loaded .32 ACP and .380 ACP with the same bullet weight, powder, and pressure then fired them out of the same model of firearm, it would be interesting to see how similar they are. Of course, this is assuming someone is loading their own ammo. Most people buy off-the-shelf ammo and have no control over those factors. Since that is the case, it is likely that the average shooter will experience a difference in felt recoil between the two rounds.

      @476429@4764292 жыл бұрын
    • @@476429 Thanks for your sophisticated answer! So its not so good to use hp. That is really a downside. I dont know why they never redesign the .32 and make it at least rim less. Did you realized that federal came out with a new .32 this year calling it the "30 Super Carry"? Stupid name. But its quite different. The case is longer than 9mm and normal bullet weight is 100,115 grain. Insane 50,000psi and almost the same ballistics than 9mm. Most reviewers say it has the same recoil some say it has bit less. When the difference is not so big it gets very subjective. I once had the chance to shoot a PPK in .380 and .32. Both were loaded with reloads. The owner loaded max powder charges. I was surprised that the .32 doesnt felt less to me. Also some like the .45ACP over the 9mm because its rather a softer push. Once I shot .357 Sig what normaly should have more than 9mm but it was much faster like to fast that you can feel that it has more. I liked it more than the 9mm even so i like less recoil. But of course it also depends a lot out of which gun you shoot it.

      @Gieszkanne@Gieszkanne2 жыл бұрын
    • @@Gieszkanne Regarding the .45 over 9mm, that's what I'm talking about with differences in how recoil is experienced. In general, the .45 has a higher muzzle energy than 9mm and therefore a higher corresponding recoil. Yet the recoil can feel lower than 9mm. It has to do with the rate of force development curve-which is itself related to powder, pressure, bullet weight, etc. And that's even if the firearm's weight and barrel length are the same for both.

    @needparalegal@needparalegal2 жыл бұрын
  • There is another interesting detail about the CZ-82: the reason it has a polygonal “rifling” is because it was designed for a rather unusual type of bullets, the Czech 9x18 mm vz. 82 military ones. Unlike your typical Makarov with bullets having lead core or-for military usage-the steel core and some little lead between the core and the jacket, the Czechoslovak vz. 82 military ammo have bullets made of (I lack the proper English term here) “baked-together steel sawdust”. It was lighter and faster then the std. Makarov bullet and it was not suggested to use these cartridges in Makarov pistols, as they would wear their barrels down pretty quickly. So we were able to use their ammo but they could not use ours, or not for too long anyway. :-) Greetings from Prague, Czechia.

    • Sintered steel powder :) A "nice thing" about it is that it fragments on impact, not sure about how much of an impact is needed for the vz 82 ammo (whether for example impact on skull is enough), but I think that it would be just a question of sintering temperature to achieve that, possibly making it a better alternative to lead than all I've seen being considered right now (not that I would want lead to be banned), still nowhere near lead.

      @lamerjakprase@lamerjakprase2 жыл бұрын
    • @@lamerjakprase Well, not quite. At least as far as fragmenting on impact goes. Vz 82 ammo is actually penetrating quite well, it behaves more like big and fast steel pellet. A skull, or a standard-pre-kevlar-helmet for that matter, is no match for it to cause it to fragment.

It shattered the tibia and ricocheted and came out the top of my foot. 100% my fault and completely unacceptable from my end. Had nothing to do with the gun whatsoever. The CZ-82 is a phenomenal little firearm, and it really was ahead of its time. I still have mine and it is one of my all time best shooters. When I let my father shoot it for the first time, he couldn’t even force himself to miss with it. And he’s not an ardent shooter. The single action trigger breaks clean, and the double action is smooth as butter. For anyone who has doubts as to the effectiveness of the 9x18mm caliber, let me tell you, it absolutely works. Be safe out there, and happy shooting!

(because chromelined polygonal rifling). CZ 83 CANNOT handle this ammo: in better case it destroys it´s rifling in worse case bullet carve itself in to the rifling too slow, chamber presure rises above safe limits and shooter gonna have very bad day. I have no idea if some of this ammo made it to the US, but here in Czech republic there was some bad incidents with unaware shooters loading this ammo to the CZ 83 in 9mm Makarov. So be aware.

  • One thing to note that almost bit me - the left side of the trigger guard has a recess milled out to make room for the end of the slide release wire spring. My spring had somehow bent and was not sitting in that recess and was instead blocking the trigger guard from fulling seating in the locked up position. The trigger guard did travel up far enough to allow the magazine into the well and the slide was prevented from traveling far enough to disassemble it, but I wouldn't have trusted it. Without the magazine in the well the trigger guard needed only a light touch to snap it down. This situation is visually obvious as instead of the trigger guard sitting flush against the frame you have a sort of dog-tooth effect. To fix it, just tap the roll pin above the trigger part way out the right of the frame. This pin holds the shepherd's crook end of the spring in place. By tapping the pin part way only you release the spring on the left side so it can drop out, and reassembly is easier than if you completely remove the pin. You can then replace the spring entirely or bend it back into shape and place it back into the hole in the slide stop. Then press it up into the frame beyond the roll pin and tap the pin back into place.

Not the best looking pistol, however, it's well proven for decades, always feeds and functions very well and as we all do recognize, IF CZ MAKES IT, it's a good to go gun. Bought two originally from J&G, one was pristine, the other beat to sh*t. Sold the beater, kept the nice one, I see them at well over $400.00 on some after market sales sites. • It's very interesting that you can clearly see Czechoslovak army markings on both of them ("she" 89 (year) and crossed swords) but CZ 83 was never in use with army. Wonder what that is about. Also that is NOT Czech music in any way but sounds like something from Balkans, bit annoying to us Czechs watching your channel.

    • I've got two CZ83-s, both bought brand new in a gun shop by civilians in Estonia in the 90's. Both have the "she" markings on them. Might it be just a marker of a Czech made firearm? Very nice pistols, by the way - looking like new too - we've luckily got probably one of the safest neighbourhoods in the world (combined with them strict European gun laws) and very few people bother to carry their guns around, so you may easily find a 30 year old gun that's only been shot a couple of times when it was bought and has just been sitting in a safe since.

    • @@juhansuits6555 what are the gun laws like in Estonia? Do you have caliber restrictions? I carry a polish P64 or a CZ82 on occasion. In Pennsylvania USA open carry is legal for everyone, and you only have to do a backround check, pay a small fee and you can get a concealed carry permit good for 5 years at a time. Also we have no magazine capacity or caliber restrictions. The Right to Bear Arms is written into the State Constitution. New Jersey is right next to us and has some of the strictest gun laws in the country.

  • Have 2 CZ 82's, with night sights and 1 CZ 83. The 82's are blued and the 83 is nickel. Makes it easy to keep ammo separate. The trigger on the 83 is super clean and fast shooting. I use it for plate shoots and have my fastest times with it! Great guns and the 82 is a perfect EDC.

  • I have a 83 I went it because .380 is easier to find than 9x18 . I do like it is my carry pistol very reliable but I'm looking at the double stack 9mm subcompacts that are coming out to replace it but I won't sell it off its a quality pistol worth keeping around. The only issue I have had is finding extra magazines that are reliable.

  • Have both, a CZ82 and a CZ83. Its not too hard to find these as gunsmith specials with damaged/bulged barrels for $150-200. Replacing the barrel isnt too difficult if you have a break press. Btw-9x18mm brass can be prepared by cutting down 9x19 fired brass to .700 OAL and resizing with 9x18mm loading dies, but make sure you use proper .363 diameter bullets for 9x18

  • Repaired one that had a squib backup. The bulged barrel pressed the recoil spring into the inside of the slide. Slide couldnt be removed, and had to cut the thing up. While doing a rebuild from a stripped doner, I noticed that the cz82 had some variations over time, which considering its service time I thought was a bit surprising. So parts between the one I was fixing and the doner weren't exactly 1:1, had to buy a few parts from cz directly, which I was impressed still sold parts commercially for the 82 =) 9x18 really is a different animal in the hand vs 380. I think the p64 is the most aggressive handgun I've had the displeasure of shooting. Wolff helps a lot.

  • I wonder if the increased felt recoil of the 82 is due to a worn out recoil spring. I always thought mine snapped much harder in the hand than it should, so I did a little research. Sure enough, that’s a pretty common thing with these surplus guns with unknown histories. I put a slightly heavier Wolf spring in and, wow, surprising difference.

Friend was holding the slide to let it go home, instead of just releasing the slide stop... and somehow the round go pinned between the lug and the slide. Boom. • Thanks for putting up a recent video on this platform. Just a heads up, there are mags to be had for the .380/9x18 makarov, however, they may not be actual factory mags. they "work", they say "mfg CZ" on the baseplate but they are not from CZ. They have a seam on the back and front that looks like a bead weld sorta. Either way, they will fit and will function, but I'd only use them for plinking, or range practice, I wouldn't carry them. If you can still find the factory mags out there, get them. Unfortunately, CZ discontinued the gun for here, as well as the mags, and although there are a lot of 83/82s out there, they haven't continued importing the mags to the US from europe. Also, you'll probably not find the .32 caliber mags AT ALL, and if you do, they will probably be to high of a price.
