It's not the end of the world, of course, but a good technique will make scythe mowing a lot mor fun, enjoyable and efficient. So here's me demonstrating some mistakes that you'll want to avoid... all in good fun! :)

  • I would perhaps add : Forgetting to breathe / adopting a too quick pace. Especially when suddenly encountering a technically more challenging spot that requires more attention, that will make you alter your rythm and that will likely ask for swifter strokes, at least I have noticed that I tend to hold my breath. Don't commit this error for too long / too often or you will get exhausted without understanding why and then put the blame on poor technique or gear, or simply say that the grass stand/terrain was a difficult one !

  • Could you do a video on typical meadow management, starting with a field that has been neglected for awhile? (lots of thick grass, needs a couple of seasons to get back to a wildflower meadow. I know part of my struggles are from being inexperienced, but I think part of it has to be due to thick uneven grass in a field bumpy from moles, etc. Do I need to tough it out for a couple of seasons and remove thatch and smooth out rough terrain before it gets easier? I really appreciate your videos.

    @AndrewZetts@AndrewZetts10 ай бұрын
    • Perhaps. Best is to start with burning such an area in spring and then you also see garbage, tussocks, stones, saplings which you then can remove before the grass starts growing. Else it is just start working - it will just be better and better over the years. Mow and remove the grass each year!

So pretty much every stroke, I get a pile of big weeds stuck on other weeds or piling up on the scythe blade and not coming off. It would help to see how Janne handles fields like that!

  • Hej, har du några bra tips för att effektivt slå i diken?

    @hansmalm2801@hansmalm28019 ай бұрын
    • Brukar bli att man går i korta strängar uppifrån och ned, då slår man ju gräset lite uppåt också vilket är bra om man vill att det ska torka. Men man får situationsanpassa beroende på om gräset ligger samt hur brant o lång kanten är.

  • Hej, vi försöker restaurera en ängsyta i skärgården. Jag har slagit mycket högt gräs och vi har regnigt väder så det tar tid att torka, men min tid här är begränsad. Jag undrar om gräset måste torka helt innan man komposterar det?

    @moajarnek4562@moajarnek45629 ай бұрын
    • Nej nej, finns ingen större anledning till det annat än att det är lättare och mindre jobb för er. Jättebra att ni gör något! Det finns en myt att gräset måste ligga kvar och fröa av sig. Självklart är det bra men absolut inget måste alla år. Du vet det finns ytor som är skötta som gräsmattor i decennier och som är mer eller mindre perfekta ängar när de väl släpps upp. Inget som fått vare sig blomma eller fröa där på urlänge.

      @slattergubben6702@slattergubben67029 ай бұрын
    • Tack för svar! Jag förstår. En man som ska hjälpa mig forsla bort gräset så att det möglar och ruttnar istället för att förmultna om det inte torkas innan, men jag vet inte om det spelar någon större roll, därför ville jag fråga någon som jag vet har koll på läget!

We ship internationally. www.slattergubben.se Here is no crap things so you at least learn what to look for! Two acres will take about 40 hours for a good scyther, I tried to do it in one day this summer but gave up after 14 hours and about 0.4 acres left. Raking and removal of the grass is important to get a meadow with high biodiversity. Handraking is about 20 hours more for 2 acres.

    @LoneKuroRaifu@LoneKuroRaifu19 күн бұрын
    • If you are not disabled you spend way less time turning parts of your lawn to a natural meadow and mow it once a year instead of maybe 15 times with lawn mower. I addition you get cut grass as a resource for covering and give nutrients to plants that needs that. Or making a nice compost where you after some years can harvest the best planting-soil. And scythe mowing is extremely fun and addictive to master. And cheap, silent, durable and sustainable comparing to the machines. Mowing lawn as a lawn with scythe is no problem either.
