  • I've been blessed with a Presa that is very social and loves strangers and other dogs, adopted him when he was a little over 1. The amount of training I've done with him is in the hundreds of hours and everyday is a training day, he's fine with cats, fine with other dogs but a total unit in the house to protect my family and home lol, best dog I've ever had

Only issue is overly excited when seeing people, in a good way. I guess that's better than being angry when meeting people. I'm trying to work on being calm when interacting with people. He's fine with other dogs but will challenge them if they start it. He's sitting around 100lbs right now on raw diet. He's super sweet and overall I recommend this breed IF you train constantly and socialize like crazy. It cannot be your FIRST dog though...NOT for first time dog owners.

  • Very cool, Presa's are not what people make them out to be. They may be one of the more intelligent mastiff breeds Or at least the most capable. They have functional body weight. They are one of the most dedicated breeds I have worked with or owned. My 2 year old Presa feels like I am walking a bear sometimes. His raw strength is insane. This breed of dog MUST be trained, Its not a breed you get to leave at home while you work all day. They need attention so they get proper socialization while they are young. Some people just don't have time for pets, I was one of those people for about 15 years. I did not own a dog for 15 years because i practically Lived at work and it would of been bad for both of us. Now that I have more free time I can Devote my attention to my Presa. I walk him everyday, long training walks. VERY impressed with how fast he can learn, So much so I am looking to breed Tank in the near future.

    • @@marmedli9124 true, but the problem is that people breed and choose that "exceptions" as norm because they are more impressive, and they end changing the original breed. Today presas dont look like the tradicional presas here. Presas cant be enormous for the heat here and because people was poor and couldnt feed a dinosaur. Old presas had fame of low maintance dogs for their size, growing and working with not to much food.

    • When you get a boerboel study the bloodlines and get one that is not very inbred. So few around that breeders are using same relatives 4 and 5 times up close ruining the breed. Good ones will make you rethink if you have ever really owned a dog before. Genius level smart at analyzing situations and using tools to make it happen for you. Total velcro dog 24/7. Try not to get the really long back, heavy ones. They will have arthritis die at 5 years old, while the slightly leaner arched neck ones will be absolute fur missiles. The bite force has been recorded up to 900psi but under 700psi is more typical. Just guessing but between 1700 and 1900 I would not be surprised if a few wild hyenas or other African dogs got mixed in. It is in their dna to do lethal damage when needed so above all DO NOT DO BITE WORK. They will become so wildly aggressive and unpredictable you will be in constant danger. Once they learn attacking is fun and realize how effective they are, nothing will detour this. I have seen this happen and been sternly warned from the now deceased old African breeders as well. With early and consistent training and socialization this will be THE DOG of a lifetime. My first became a mobility service dog/personal protector/medical alert service dog/ farm hand at 10 weeks! no specific training other than sit, stay, thankyou, and no. She just figured out everything by herself anticipating my needs watching and listening. We just got back from Mayo Clinic where she was constantly showered with enthusiastic admiration and affection from people of all ages and countries. It was so amazing how people would light up, forget their ailments and want to be near her. She brought several large entire waiting rooms into engaging in conversation, making the stay delightful! Do get a boerboel!!!! Only one female or one male per household though. Same sex dogs will eventually seriously attack the competition for top dog spot.

  • Our neighbour has one she looks after for someone who lives in a flat. She has it every single day from early in the morning until late afternoon. It barks so much if it is in the front of her house that she has to pull her curtains to stop it, barking at every single person, dog or bird that comes into view. We can't sit in our garden as it keeps trying to get at us by leaping and snarling over the fence. I am totally sick of it, but I'm not sure what we can do about it. We have told her nicely that it's a scary thing to have happened, but she ignores us and carries on letting it out into her garden anyway. To be fair to her, if she hears it snarling, she will order it back inside, which eventually it will obey, but she is not always out in the garden with it. Even if we are not near the fence. If it hears our voices, it still has the same effect. It's her fence, and if we had the money, we would offer to install a higher one, especially as the fence at the bottom of our garden is rickety and low. One day, it will just jump over it or crash through it, and that is very scary. but we are pensioners and cannot afford it. Summer is coming and it's so sad that we can't even sit out in peace. Any advice would be welcome as I am at my wits end.

    • Thats a very tricky situation. Since you have addressed it, there is not much else besides just making sure you keep yourself safe. If affordable, try to get a industrial anti bark device you can setup in the most dangerous area of the yard. Unfortunately and fortunately, this breed is very protective and there's not much the owner can do. The dog does have to live its life, and she is bringing them in when they get out of control, which is pretty much the best she can do

      @SoCalPresa@SoCalPresaАй бұрын
    • For purely practical reasons, when people decide to own a dog like this, they should also take out a good insurance policy in case Fido decides to hurt someone. You can lose your house if someone loses his/her life or is injured severely because the dog attacks.

      @maryk.8989@maryk.8989Ай бұрын
    • @SoCalPresa Thank you for your reply. My neighbour, however, is not the owner. The owner lives down the street. My neighbour has it at her house every day because the owner lives in an upstairs flat and goes to work. She doesn't have to have it in her garden at all. The actual owner should never have had this dog in a flat when he works. He struggles to restrain it when he takes it out for a walk as it tries to attack other dogs, and it rears up at people if they walk past. He refuses to have it neutered as he says that he wouldn't let his 'boy' have anything done that he wouldn't have done to himself! That is the mentality! At least it might calm it down.

My guy is just a sluggo and professional couch surfer. His brother, on the other hand, has a job of guarding horses, and will rip the limbs off anything he deems as a threat. Raised shelties for 30 years, and these guys will give them a run for their money in the stubbornness department, but once you've established who is Alpha in the relationship, you're good. The breed does accept their role in the family "pack", and are super quick learners. One of THE BEST breeds I have ever owned.

  • A Presa made the mistake of attacking my bother's 194 lb UKC Champion Central Asian Ovtcharka. He was destroyed in a matter of seconds, and had my brother not pulled his dog off, sustaining puncture bite wounds on to his forearm and right hand, I'm pretty sure the Presa would have been killed in another 3-5 seconds. As it stood the Presa's head was almost torn off his body, and his skull was fractured by the massive canines of my brother's male CAO. The only thing that prevented my brothers male from killing the Presa was when he put his hand between his dogs teeth and the Presa's skull to prevent the kill, and afford him enough time to disengage his unusually large and exceeding athletic male. If you know anything about CAO dogs, they do not terminate an attack until the target either submits or is incapacitated, and the canines of the males can be absurdly massive and long, as in 2X larger than the canines of a very large male Canadian Timber Wolf. They do not necessarily attack to kill, unless dealing with a predator such as a coyote, wolf, leopard, bobcat, etc, and generally do not engage in long distance attacks such as German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, Belgian Tervuren, Dutch Shepherds do. Being a LiveStock Guardian Breed, the CAO should possess a Prey Drive, which is very strongly present in GSD, Belgian Malinois, etc., facilitating their police and military Attack Training, and hindering the use of CAO as Attack Dogs.

    • @@SoCalPresa No dogs should be out on chains especially "Guard dogs". What use is a big dog when its range is 5 metres and you can walk around it. My corso has free roam on my 2 acre fenced in property and god forbid someone comes over that fence... It'll be the worst two minutes of their life 🤣
