Always fun getting smoked by a diesel pickup that hauls nothing but their fat ego around. That's on any kind of bike.
Addendum: there are an awful lot of entitled drivers out there.
Today I saw my neighbor out walking along the road and stopped to say hi. I told my neighbor they should try getting an e bike. First thing said was, you get no exorcise with those things. I went on to explain that can increase the area you go to and around the same length of time and still get the work in. Work is what you make it as always, some just can't get their heads around that.
People who walk in the middle of a shared bike/walking path wearing ear buds who don't hear your bell or saying, "on your left" and then bitch when you pass them. All the litter I didn't notice when driving a car. Driver's who throw litter out of their vehicles. People who say I'm cheating. Cars backing out of driveways into your path. Loose dogs and cars that get right behind you when they have the whole road...that scares me. That's enough for now. Thanks for letting me vent. Good topic Mark.
People are always in a hurry to get to the destination. They don't want to slow or have to think and look to see when they can get over around you without messing up the traffic. They think of us like a trash can blown out into the street and a hazardous obstruction.
Drivers must share the road. Many towns and cities have the signs.
Lots of good points brought up, many I can relate with
Most of my biking pet peeves are the clueless and/or entitled drivers. Drivers that don't abide by right of way, drivers that sit right in your blind spot, drivers that get angry with an ebike "being slow" even when (safely) riding in excess of the posted limit, drivers that block bike lanes, drivers that don't look before turning, drivers that pass illegally... and more, always more.
There are so many. I definatey hear ya.
Yes! some cars feel like bikers don't have the same rights as they have. In the Philippines, you will feel it more! At least here we have more bike lanes.
Luckily so far for me in my comments section no one's mentioned my weight problem and that I need to start pedaling. I have gone to great verbal lengths to let people know that I really can't pedal a bike anymore. What I get a lot of comments for is rolling through stop signs. I make every effort to come to a complete stop but unfortunately, a lot of the time, the traffic around me is rolling through the stop signs so I need to keep up with the flow of traffic. Other times there's literally no one around me and I'm a really big guy. I'd rather not lose my momentum and strain my motors and batteries by starting from a dead stop. Also I point out a lot of infractions drivers commit on the road and people tell me to quit whining and to buy a car or motorcycle. People walking around with headphones on in the street, bike riders with headphones or riding with no hands texting on their phones, getting cut off because people automatically assume I'm going slow, drivers not knowing what I'm doing when I'm using hand signals, people not letting me merge most of the time, people letting their dogs off leash in their front yards and a bunch more things I don't feel liking typing out.
I'm a multiple ebike owner and always obey the law and I've been behind normal bike groups in my area and they will completely fill up the lane and always have their biking outfits on and safely vests and they apparently feel that they own the road and could ride in line behind each other and not block the road!!
Hi Mark . I peddle my moped style E-bike all the time , my preference. However there may be a time and place when I throttle only as I get older and that will be my preference also . I grew up with one major principle that has stuck, MYOB ………… and the world will be a better place .
I've got a Cafe cruiser for "riding" here around the Grande Ronde Valley but am also looking for a fold up throttle only scooter version for camp grounds and resorts we visit. As a disabled person having the option of "throttle only" helped buttress my courage allowing for longer rides and more freedom. My first few rides were spent picking up trash along my route endearing myself to those living there and now they wave as I ride by. In rural eastern Oregon traffic is low and laws not strictly enforced but instead we worry about wildlife, weather, and ranch/farm dogs and so it's a good relationship with our neighbors we need more than law. Last week I had deer run across the road less than 10ft from my moving bike and moments later a flock of obstinate turkeys forced me to slow then stop to wait. The next day riding down a gravel road I noticed something huge and black standing astride the road ahead. My first thought was bear but as I peddled closer it turned out to be giant Black Angus bull now staring at me as if I was in his pen........trust me throttle only is handy as it was how I beat a hasty retreat to a safe spot from which to call the farmer who owned the bull.
Thanks for sharing.
There can be Karen's on the road.
Or you get people say to you that ebikes should be on the road not the paths.
Pedestrians occupying the bike lane when they have a perfectly good sidewalk available. Also cyclists who ride against traffic, not realizing that cars coming out of driveways or side streets are only looking at where the traffic is coming from.
Mine are red lights don't detect you
i know in wi. if the light does not change for you after one cycle. u r allowed to proceed if the coast is clear, at least on a motorcycle. i would imagine it would be the same 4 u.
The one I always hear is, "You're Cheating!". really? I am out here everyday riding.
Where there are no bike lanes you have to give bikes a 3 foot space when going around them here. We are like an old farm tractor with a trailer load of hay putting down the road blocking their precious progress causing a delay in their commute. You have solid yellow lines and they have to get over those which is illegal
Combines need the whole road, we are not asking for that.
😅 I love to fake pedal ❣️
lol
all I really care about are debri free bike lanes
It's hard to keep pedaling in a group with 20 people without using the throttle off and on.. the speeds don't stay consistent.
Very true.
Get a brake light and watch your mirror!!!
What if your legs start cramping on a (40+ mile) ride? Or you did 45+ miles the day before? (Mentions this as I write this!)
100%
For All bike riders...At least have some understanding/knowledge of traffic rules & regs. Don't say..."I think"....Know traffic rules regs. And w/100% of facts & figures on-line, or easily accessible... Should be No Excuses to say..."Oh, didn't know that!"-SMH...Stay Safe, Ride Safer, Mark
My peeve are normal bikers
7:11 What was that?
It sounded like someone cutting a board. Look behind the pickup truck on the right.
My pet peeve is people not learning the laws and just blaming everyone else for their ignorance. If you really want to be an advocate for e-bikes in Oregon learn your stuff, don’t just ramble incoherently. I ride my analog and class 1 e-bikes around bend all the time and never have I had a single issue with anyone. 1st complaint- Has to deal with classifications, pedal assisted bikes are allowed in more spaces than throttle or throttle/pedal bikes (ie class 1≠ class 2/3) 2nd complaint- You are not able to share the road due to a discrepancy in speed. Class 1-3 have a max speed of 20-28 miles an hour. Anything over that does not fit the classification and will need to be registered. Class 1-3 are free to use the bicycle lanes. Though cities should be better set up for alternative modes of transportation and better bike infrastructure. And yes analog riders should give you an eye if you are driving 45mph in the bike lane, examples from your videos you post online. 3rd complaint- Maybe they honk due to you not paying attention to the road? Or they honk at other cars and the victim mentality is strong? 4th complaint- The law was passed to allow bikes and electric assists bikes to slow to a reasonable speed and pass the stop sign after sufficiently checking traffic prior to entry. This does not apply to e-bikes outside the class 1-3 Guy complains about cars not stopping then immediately because he didn’t stop and sufficiently check the street prior to pulling into an intersection he blames the car that came out of the blue on a straight away? Someone please get this guy off Tigard streets before he hurts himself.
E bikes are for nerds
