Not all bandsets shoot all ammo well, and each bandset will have a range of ammo it will shoot well depending on the active band length.

AMMO WEIGHT TO BAND WIDTH METRIC CONVERSION 1.1g - 2.1g = 12.7mm - 15.9mm 3.6g = 19.1mm 5.6g = 22.2mm 8.4g = 25.4mm
I'm glad you put ammo weight because I shoot clay balls , approx 10mm in size and can't find info on shooting clay balls anywhere .
@@paul1furby glad it helped! you can use the following formula to calculate bands for a projectile of any size or material; (projectile weight in grams)/.0078=V (6*V/3.14)^(1/3)=D D*2=(band width in millimetres)
Thank you so much for taking the time! I love whenever a company is this passionate about not only about there products and also about diving this deep in helping there customers to get 100% out of the products you sell to them. Thank you SimpleShot and to everyone on the team!
Absolutely!! Thank so much for this!
@@simpleshot hi nathan nathan here. Been experimenting this week using your advice. As of the last week. Ive been high grade medical latex shooter for 24 yrs. Its not that im pig headed its just i didnt know fkatbands still existed? It was a thing old people used because thats what tires were made of. Ive hunted rabbits with 10mm tubes x2 all my life. I recently stole ideas from archery cams to make a 4x 10 mm(38) tubes with active licking cams for release on shooting . Last week i converted my whole system to handle 4x 1mm bands. For marbles. Its horifyingly fast!! Then made a frame for 2x1mm flatbands(tapered) and was too powerfull fir the ammo. So swallowed my pride and used a girly woosie 0.6mm band. And it was accuracy all over!!!! So flats; rekease energy faster than tubes. Internal pressure in tubes is not predictable. Simple! Thanks nathan youv made a convert. Not stubbornly. But information. A man who is honestly mistaken either ceases to be mistaken. Or ceases to be honest .
This help me 100% on my band sizes thank you
Solid info. You deserve the success you get!
Invaluable tips. Thanks a million.
Thanks for the info as a newbie to slingshots I had a couple of slight issues and learnt a lot from that cheers👍👍👍
Glad to help!
Dear Nathan, i appreciate your channel and I learned a lot from your videos. Can you tell us please more about ammo and the appropiate thickness of the bands? We heared about ammo and the tapering, but what thickness of yours bands fits most? Thanks!!! 👍
Great video and good info. Thanks!
Planning on shooting 3/8 ammo what size taper bands do you recommend? I plan on using theraband gold.
My preferred cut for 3/8 Ammo is 20/15 at 14cm long. Flys straight and tru and you can shoot at long range with these no problem. I can consistently hit a 25mm spinner at 10m with little to no misses.
would these principles be more effective regarding ammo weight? would you be recommending same band cuts for clay or lead ammo of the same diameter?
What are some guide lines to matching your band set to ammo like smooth rocks beings you can’t quite tell the ammo weight of the rocks. I’d like to try and customize my own flat bands. Have a good one Anthony ✌️❤️😊
What size would you recommend for a rock chucker using theraband gold or latex? I don’t shoot steel or lead ammo, just 3/4-1” rocks
If the bands are tapered do you need different size ammo and do these measurements work with lead balls too?
Great video! I just bought the hammer slingbow/slingshot. Can't wait for it to come. Any recommendations on what arrows would be best? A video like this but for arrows would be great!
Thanks for the recommendation. We'll put that one in the queue for the new year.
For hunting with theraband gold 7/16 ammo what taper would you suggest?
This really helped
Love this video
Thanks you rock I am 36 and I love slingshot
Awesomeness
Make a vedio on tapered bands matches to ammo
Hi Nathan and team, your class about slingshot is the best amongst others. very helpful, clear, and inspiring. thank you. I am not familiar with Theraband gold as it is not commonly used in my country. the thickness is 0.64, am I right? and what about the other band thicknesses to ammo? can i use the same table or is another setting?
The thickness does not matter as much as the retraction speed.
ok thank you
What about when shooting 3/8 inch clay ammo?
great video ! what size ammo do you reccommend for the Scout LT (stock band) ? Im about to buy one
You will need to match it to the ammo size you will be shooting. 3/8" Steel Ammo is a good do all size.
I know this is an older video but I am new to shooting (modern) slingshots, and want to carry one while hunting (with bow or rifle, for squirrels, rabbits etc) and plan on shooting round ball lead for best effect.. I'm wondering if this guide works for lead ammo or if you need to up/ downsize to adjust for the greater density/ weight per diameter? and also what size ball do you recommend (I'm thinking .40 or .45 cal would be the best overall, but I have .50 cal balls and molds)
Thanks for the question. You will want to go with a heavier bandset as the lead does weigh more. Generally, it is one size up from what band would be used for the same size steel. For example, if you shoot 3/8" size lead (.36 cal), you will want to use the bands for 7/16" Steel Ammo and not the bands for the 3/8" Steel Ammo.
Great info Nathan, what ammo do you recommend for the Axiom X?
Anything from BB's to 1/2" (12mm) ammo.
I'm planning on shooting 3/8" steel ball with the Scout. But I'm fighting with 0.30 latex or TBG I heard Latex wears out super quickly and I really abuse my equipment. Which should I use?
+Paul win If you shoot regularly, you will wear out the bands before they fail from deteroriation. TBG is more UV resistant, latex is slightly faster. Both will deteriorate from UV and Ozone exposure.
I do have a Question. When I practice shooting some times my ammo hit the sling shot.I seam to shoot consistently same way but think after a wile my thumb sicks it the pouch and think that's my problem. I have lots of hits on the sling shot it self.Do I need a smaller pouch ? or is this common.

+SimpleShot Shooting Sports Thanks this help a lot. Have a great day
What would be the best band taper for hunting with theraband gold, 3/8 steel and 27 inch draw Thanks
The most important thing is the tuning (over the taper). You can squeeze some performance out with the taper, but your best bet is experimentation! Try a few and see what works best for you. There are faster latex options over TBG for sure, so you might want to look at our SimpleShot Black or Precise latex, for example. You'll get longer band life in general with a straight cut, and a faster latex will more than compensate for the taper.
@@simpleshot thanks heaps, gonna have a look now at the simple shot black
Ok, great tuorial for band, but what about tube (single and/or looped) ?
For tubes, looped or single, you need to know your draw length and then trim them to suit your draw. Check out this page for details on how to determine this. Tubes and flatlands both use this same formula. simpleshot.academy/how-do-i-tune-my-bands-for-more-performance/
Thanks for this fast answer ... just received today my Torque from you by the way ;)
Whats a decent alternative to latex for those of us allergic to letex? Thank in advance. Jared.
Gunpowder 👍
I'm shooting 2cm to 1.5cm tapered bands. would 3/8 steel be fine
Yeah, sounds good to me. 👍
Great and informative video, only thing that is kinda annoying is the imperial US mesaurement system your using, it would be nice to atleast see both units (metric system).
Cosmic Dust Units aren’t relevant if you remember to double the diameter of your ammo to get the right band width. The graphic is moot and the fractions really do make something obvious kind of hard to see. Using metric would make that 1:2 ratio very obvious.
@@damondavison2132 thanks . Simple enough
so sort of double the projectile for band width ie 1/2 inch ammo 1 inch band?
You *exactly* double the size of the projectile diameter to get the band width. 😀
@@damondavison2132 steel balls only , marbles .5"
Ok. You said about the width, but what about the thickness when choosing different weight amo ? What width, and what thickness depending on amo ?
That will depend on several factors like temperature, elongation, draw length, brand of latex, ammo weight, etc.
I bought a Rambone from Joerg with double tbg straight cut and I get mad handslap with 12.7mm steel. I do pull them at full potential. Is double too much for my ammo?
Also I read on a forum that if you want to hunt, your shot has to go through a tin can. Even though I seem to have too much power and while the can gets beat up badly, it doesn't even go through the first side. What is wrong with my setup? Yes I know, sorry for the long questions lol
Homme Des Cavernes I would say that yes, you should either up the size of ammo, or go to a single band set up.
Thank you for the video! But as a beginner i assume that the thickness of the latex band has great influence too. What is your idea about the matching of band thickness and ammo? I use a BSB white 0.5 band in 24 - 12 taper with 8 mm steel and it works quite good. But according to your advice i will try a 16 mm band cut .. 😃
I'm new to slingshots what's a good taper for 11 mm steel or 7/16
Check out our site. The bandsets we sell are the recommended cuts!
7/8" or 1" width in TheraBand Gold for 10mm lead balls?
7/8” is your answer.
Which latex is the best for shooting marbles sir? 0.75mm? Thanks :)
With the proper taper it can be.
How does the WEIGHT of the ammo determine band size ? Besides 3/8 steel, I've marbles of various sizes and weights - please respond. Thanks, THWACK!
It's not the topic of the video, but your question is answered here: kzhead.info/sun/nrdmZM6Qbpqbdac/bejne.html Nutshell version: there's a range of energy that any bandset can create. There's also an amount of energy that the ammo can receive. You want to strike a balance here or you'll have wasted energy (returning to your hand - ouch - if shooting OTT) if your bands are converting more energy than the ammo can receive. Or if the bands are creating less energy than the ammo has capacity for (ammo too large, for example), you'll have not enough energy in the ammo and a weak shot.
"Not the topic of the video"? The topic of the video is "Matching Bands to Ammo" , and in that topic one should find, besides the relationship of bands to ammo DIAMETER, also the relation of bands to ammo WEIGHT. Perhaps the topic should have been more specific "Matching Bands to Ammo Diameter". I do appreciate the quick reply, and will check the link for which I am thankful . THWACK!
Nathan, the link you provided has to do with OTT handslap. It doesn't address the relationship of different weight ammo to the band selection for a TTF shooter. Have you any data on that relationship? Best2u, THWACK!
Right. The topic was handslap, but the idea of matching ammo was covered in there (around the 1 minute mark). Handslap is a result of mismatched energies. We say weight is the important issue, not diameter. A 1 inch steel ball's energy capacity is much different from a 1 inch marble! The more weight (the ammo), the more energy the ammo can handle. So your heavier ammo will absorb the energy a heavier bandset will supply. Lighter ammo will be overpowered by the same band. This relationship is the same whether shooting TTF or OTT. We will put this in our list of new videos to shoot. Thanks! Team SimpleShot
Anytime, bro, anytime : ) My pleasure to offer you the opportunity to provide another of your informative videos to the slingaholics out here. Thanks, Andy and Nathan THWACK!
Im not good at English measurement unit can't cope up maybe if it is in metric maybe ill get it
im shooting 6.35mm steel balls since its the only available ammo in my place... what tapered band measurement should i use?
Our Lite Flat Bands 1/4" are a taper of 8mm-12mm using .4mm thick latex.
@@simpleshot thank youuu
You are very welcome. It's our pleasure to help.
What are the best bands for shooting rocks?
+Ethan K. The RockChucker bands found here: simple-shot.com/slingshots/hunting-slingshots/linatex-bandsets/
Any translation for metric measures?
According to the graphic, ammo diameter should be 1/2 the band width - measurement system not relevant.
@@jjohnston94 easy done. Thank you.
Is the ammo diameter truly what's important, or is it really the weight, and you're assuming steel?
We are referencing steel ammo and hence use the diameter. Weight is the crucial measurement.
What band width comes with the hammer slingshot?
The Hammer comes with the General Purpose 7/8 inch bandset. Many tournaments have been won with this standard cut. The important part is tuning your bands to your draw or you'll end up feeling like you have a wimpy slingshot, not a hammer! Tune those bands!! :)
SimpleShot Shooting Sports thanks, I appreciate you quick responses. I'll definitely tune them, I've been watching all these videos, they're great. Very informative, I never thought slingshots could be so complex. But I love it, its a great hobby.
When are u gonna have more aluminum scouts?I have to have one.
Dear Sir! Would you caption this video of yours?
You can select auto generated captions for all videos.
Thank you for your answer! So far I have succeeded in everything, but unfortunately not this one.
1/4 ammo for .76 gzk could be hunting set up?
.76 thick latex would need a very narrow taper.
@@simpleshot 20mm/12mm would be narrow taper?
It will need to be much narrower. Perhaps around a 10mm-8mm.
Excellent audio!
in tubular bands wich is the best size
This will depend on the ammo size that you are shooting. There is not one best size.
@@simpleshot Nathan sir wich is the best for slingshot tubular bands or flat bands
Flats will normally shoot faster with a lighter pull as well as have a faster shot speed. Tubes will last longer. Best is a matter of what you are looking for. Most shooters say that flats are easier to be accurate with.
Can say in metric im slow in English unit
How do I order now please thanks ?
All our products are available at simple-shot.com Thanks for your interest!
what a pity I have no idea what your measurement scales are. Why don't you do everything in metric?
What about marbles?
weight wise probably 5/8"
What about acorns?
Check out Ask Nathan Season Two. That question is coming!
What about tub bands
The same concept applies in that you must match the ammo weight to the tubes for best performance.
Screenshot the numbers for future reference. 👍🏼👍🏼
Screenshots are a huge help! 👍
You lost me. What about clay ammo?
I’m actually not sure there was such a thing as consistent clay ammo that was commonly used when this video was made.
NHn
What about for BBs?
+Lenley Melvin Try 1/4" wide strips of theraband gold or 1/2" strips of theraband blue. Also, the extra small diameter dipped latex tubing we stock is excellent for .177 bb's.
+SimpleShot Shooting Sports Thanks for the fast reply....I actually tried to order a BB tube bandset from your website, but there was none in stock :(
+Lenley Melvin We just finished up a run of those bands and they are now back in stock and ready to go. Sorry they weren't ready when you attempted prior.
Ahhh man your talking in bananas 🍌
Shame you cant use metric. UK
If you are in the united states it is illegal to use the slingshot, You were get a ticket for
I noticed that the rule of thumb here is "Band Size = Ammo size x 2". Might be useful if you need to carry this info around in your head. Thanks for all the incredibly useful videos, and my beloved Axiom Ocularis.
Please do metric... I have a headache only convert 5/16 inch to mm
Metric system would be so much easier
You need to learn the metric system. I dont think in inch, and the rest of europe is the same. Didnt get a bit of useful info here
We much prefer the metric system. It's far superior for sure. But here, we don't use it at all, so sometimes we forget to add in the metric measurements. If you do a google search for "convert inch to metric" or any similar term, you'll find a ton of converters. Then this will be useful! :)
SimpleShot Shooting Sports 👍 Since you using terminology its a little hard to follow you, when english is my second language. Anyway, I learned some tricks watching your channel, so I'm going to continue with that. Thanks for that. And the answer.
Great! We're sorry for the language gap. . . we're all English speakers here. We admire anyone who has a second language at all! :) Keep at it and have fun!
