This reminds me how unnatural it is for dogs to be away from their packs. She's distraught that they left without her. I know it's not possible to be at home with our dogs all the time, but I realized a few years ago that their experience of being apart is very different than ours.
This is why, as a huge animal lover wanting to care for all the pets at the shelter, I have never owned a pet myself. Cats do better, but dogs really need the presence of at least one other dog. Please do not have a pet where you can't devote most of your time to it and with lots of education about the pet. Please!
I look at it the same way as separation anxiety for a child when they first start school. They're scared at first, but eventually, they come to expect it and handle it. Most dogs will whine when you leave, even with a friend in the form of another dog there to keep them company. They want YOU, you give pets and hugs food and a different kind of affection than another dog. But give it time and they'll be fine. Give them something to do while you're out if they have high anxiety. Toys that have food inside can be good, so it keeps them occupied. Lay out their toys as dogs will often play with them for a bit when alone. Hell, some people install cameras and microphones and talk to their pets from work. Frankly, I find this silly and more damaging because now they're REALLY never going to learn to be without you but whatever, to each their own. In short, it'll be okay. Make up for it by taking them wherever you can take them (and do NOT try to pass them off as a service dog if they're not! That's abhorrent).

@@blackmantis3130 If my lifestyle (work) keeps me from my home most of the time, I will not have a pet to be lonely and stressed in that prison. Doggie day care is a solution, but then why do I have a pet? I prefer to donate as much as I can to my local shelter to help them spay and neuter, care for their residents and find homes for them a quickly as possible. They take all the small dogs up north for adoption where there is great demand. The larger dogs are difficult to place up north as well as in the south where I live, but here there's more room due to less population density. When I can I volunteer to walk the shelter dogs or whatever they need me to do. Unwanted pets is a problem without a good solution other than spay and neuter and shelters and education.

It was tough hearing her cry, knowing she was lonesone & concerned about where you were, but she did such a good job at being all alone. I'm so proud of her. She wasn't tempted to damage things like the furniture & so on. And, Princess got some quality time with you too. Good Girl Lucy Lou!

Yes, she did really good. Every inside dog has to go through a training period in order to earn their inside privaledges. Just as hard leaving a child at daycare and first day of school. Lol. It will all turn out fine.

To those losing their minds about how sad she was when they left that's not how they always are I think she was a lot more mad because he took her Sister and not her ;-;;
What I was thinking
I've had several that had separation anxiety. I had to work with them gradually to assure them I would indeed return. Started with leaving for only a minute, then come in with NO fanfare. Once we got to an hour, it was ok. I worked with one dog a few years before the second one came. Later, the could be left (separated as they got into trouble if both left loose - like 5 year old kids). I could leave them for 8 hours without incident. Both big dogs with big bladders! This was before everyone crated their dogs.

I'm glad they made this test , how dogs react when left alone. Even it it's just for a short while, we know it's not good for them. This is why I can't have a dog, being out of the house for 6 hours, I just can't take that risks. It'll be too heartbreaking.

I think that Lucy was remarkably well behaved considering that she is only 13 weeks old. It's easy to forget how young she is because she is so big (maybe not compared to Runner and Scout but I have a 4 1/2 lb Chihuahua so she looks huge to me!). 👵🐕

This is so sad, I'm just crying. Poor Lucy, she was heartbroken at being left alone.
Part of why she's so sad is that she doesn't understand being alone in the house but not in her crate. If she was used to just being left out she wouldn't be so anxious.
it didn't matter, she watched her daddy leave, and with the other dog, maybe if you hadn't let her see you leave, but I think just not having the other dog there, would have been very painful for her
That was your best video yet Garrett. I leave envelopes with a few morsels of expensive dry cat food in it and hide them around the house for my cat when I'm gone. Gives him something to do while I'm gone for the day, and he really looks forward to it

What’s up with all the negative comments?? I take our dog for a quick pee as I stand on the front porch, and our cat is sitting inside at the front door MEOWING 😸 like we’ve left her forever! lol I feel bad hearing her at the door sometimes, but if we own pets, we have to leave them alone sometimes, leaving them alone is NOT forever just maybe a few hours at a time! 😄 He mentioned he usually crates Lucy as I’m sure Princess too and this time he didn’t. Yes something new to Lucy but I’m sure she would possibly cry and sleep again like she did in this video if he left her roaming the house free again. I’m not sure how Lucy would be like crated as her loving fur parents leave the house to go to work etc. Maybe that will be the next video of Lucy!!! lol ‘HINT’ ‘HINT’ 😝 🙃

Tee Dee True enough! Princess looked like she didn’t have a care in the world!!! 😆 I love watching Lucy and Princess rough house in their back yard together! I’m not sure how young Princess is but she like Lucy sure are proud “DIVA’S” lol. I have a Scottish Terrier Carin Terrier mix who just turned 13 years young in December 2019 and she has never taken to a crate lol So I’m jealous of fur dogs that love them so much!

Lucy is an extremely precious one! Daisy Duke's very special one! Because of my profound deafness, I couldn't pick up the audio. But a number of watchers here said that Lucy was upset for being left alone. This really breaks my heart. It'd be so wonderful for Lucy to spend the time with her mother and some of her siblings. Play dates with them would be great.

You need to get someone to narrate over this that's a dog psychologist or dog behavioral expert. Explaining what shes doing and why and the patterns etc.
You should not say anything to the dog when you go out. No goodbyes. Just leave the house and don't look at the dog. Never make a big deal out of it. For the first days or weeks at home, the puppy should be left for very short periods of time. You can also practice by just walking outside the door and when the dog is not barking or making any sound- come back. So he doesn't associate his behaviour with you coming back (I was barking and human came back!). Do not greet your dog when you come back. Take of your coat, shoes, whatever and after a short while you can greet your dog, but not very passionately. You can pet him extensively on other occasions, here you shouldn't exite him too much

I went to a meeting and couldn't stop thinking about her! I got home with a huge headache, because I was imagining all the terrible things that could have happened to her...
