When I went through hunters safety many years ago, they had a video to demonstrate the ability of a bow to harvest an animal ethically. A bucket of sand had a mirror placed behind it, and both rifle (30-30 I think), and bow shot at it.Only the Arrow made it through the bucket and mirror.
Saw this in the NC hunter safety course in the 90s
todds workshop actually did something like this. a compound bow and a crossbow are actually able to go through 2 sand bags while a 5.56 won't even make it through 1 sand bag.
Just like an arrow/knife going through Kevlar where a bullet wouldn’t.
A 400gr arrow flying 240fps is 51.17 ft lb of kinetic energy. A 55gr bullet flying 3150fps is 1212 ft lb of kinetic energy. But as we see, bullets travel through hard surfaces such as wood, blocks of paper, or metal easier than arrows. But arrows travel through softer materials like sand, water, ballistic gel, or flesh easier than a bullet.

how powerful is a bow? Well camera man will you just step out here for a bit....
“Hey Mitch? Can you walk about 30 paces down range? I think I left a field tip out there can you go look for it?”
💀
"Cmoooon you owe me one!"
would love to see the difference with a heavier arrow
Love it, need to put more of this kind of videos on!
Great video as always Chris... Question...so could you do a video or add this information to an upcoming video in regards to a "portable bow press". I work on my own bows and my friends including my hunting friends. So when in the woods hunting and such i need a press that i can do so. My current portable style press wont work on the now Parallel limb bows. what press options would you suggest to work on these new style bows like the newer mathews bows and others? Thank you, Don
Curious if that paper test caused any damage to the arrow shaft at all.
That knock looked super cool when it got stuck in the water jug. Great vid per usual. Mythbusters: Chris Bee Edition
so many videos lately chris! loving the content!
I have a bear divergent 28. Its set to 64lbs 28inch draw and I shoot gold tip hunters with 125grain points. I missed my target in my shed it went through my shed my fence and into my neighbors shed about 4inch. I was surprised mind you I was about 15 yards from the shed wall. the fence is about 4 yards from the shed wall and the neighbours shed was about 15 yards behind the shed. I'm lucky no one was home throughout the day because I could have been bad.
I have the same specs on my bow. What length is your arrow? Carbon to carbon? What slime is it too? I’m not sure if I need 300 or 250 cause my draw and bow weight are right on the cusp where I could go either way. My plan is to shoot an arrow around the same weight so the length and spine would be helpful for me to decide. Thanks!
Cool video! U should do an entire video of u messing around with instinctively shooting a traditional recurve and a long bow!
I didn’t get a pass through on a deer last year and didn’t recover till a week later because the fletchings caught on a rib. 29” #75 lbs, 20 yd broadside. Center lung shot. G5 Stryker v2 on pierce platinum from my v3. Deer only went 80 yds but did not have a spec of blood. We actually walked within 10 yds but she was under a brush pile. Reason I know is I found her when the ravens/crows did and my fletchings were ripped and in the mess
Chris Bee’s “sticky buttons”, Sounds like a a new signature model if you ask me.
"I feel like water is weird sometimes " - Chris bee
Would love to see with: 80lbs bow, aluminum arrows and single bevel broadheads.
Awesome, and, no kidding, i had this idea for quite a similar vid too this week, and did the crossbow test a year ago... well, atleast i know what obstacles 'not to use' :p. Great Vid
“such an appleat” 🥁
My nephew shot field tips, 55lb 28dl thru 3/4 inch subfloor at 30 yards, the tip went all the way thru and stuck out the other side probably bout a inch or so... yea I wouldn't want to be on the receiving side of it...
Great video do more of these along with more hunting
Cool it got hot enough to produce a big spark going through the plates!
Would taking the caps off the water jugs change the outcome?
off topic but was wondering on your 3 pin hunting kit can you change the fibers the bottom red pin is invisible to me
Keep 'em coming Chris. You are not only one very skilled archer you are extremely entertaining. Love your videos!
Always a good day when Chris Bee posts🤙🏽🐝
My Dad used to work at Fred Bear Archery in Gainesville, FL and talked of stories where the guys would shoot arrows through cinder blocks!! Try it
I remember testing my new crossbow in the garage. I had the target bag leaned up against the garage door. 2nd shot just went through the target bag, through the garage door, and the fletching got stuck in the garage door. When I opened it, the bolt was 3 inches from the grill of my wife's Subaru parked in our spot lol. Big piece of wood behind it now lol.
I liked the humor in this vid! 😂 love the new content too!
The "apple toss and throw" was pretty cool!
In my opinion in case of soft materials: bow, solid materials: firearm.
It would be interesting to see how “pointer” single bevel broadheads perform on the paper and playing cards. They are supposed to have less drag per Ashby study.
Great job Chris! What an excellent job! Your by far the most influential person in the archery industry!
Shoot field tip WITHOUT fletchings
If you're wondering about distance... A 70-pound compound will cast a 450g arrow about 600 yds. A 70-pound English longbow about 230 yds. An 85-pound compound will do about 232 fps with an 828g arrow, and a 150-pound English longbow about 210 fps (and 340 yds) with an 825g arrow.
well, i know what to have on the back wall now for my room so i can shoot my bow inside. stacks of paper
New tuning method. Watermelon
The apple skewer was super satisfying
Thanks.. the paper & cards shocked me.. apple kabob was too cool
15:14 it would be interesting to see how a single bevel reacts to all of this.
Ath-a-lete?! That's amaze-a-zing!
Great video Chris, the first arrow would of gone straight through if you used a heavier arrow
Transferring the energy into the light unsupported objects.
Correction for future testers. Shooting half full water jugs is not the same as shooting full ones. The hydrostatic effect is way different because it has more room to disperse around the projectile.
Would be interesting of you used a 550 or 600gr arrow in comparison
High marks for pure entertainment. Good to have a change up once in a while. Good thinking...
Great video but really would like to know how you Aimed to be that accurate that close? Bottom pin? 20yard pin bottom of target? Etc, would love a video of direct down shots 1-15yards from a stand or saddle.
The aiming point inverts at a certain distance depending on your setup. On my hunting bow it inverts at about 8 yards, target at 12yds. For a 2 yard shot on my hunting bow I aim for 60
Water is weird lol keep it it man love your channel
This was awesome!!!
I underestimated the plates for sure
A lot of fun to watch.
You and Matt should do a shoot off. You use the bow and Matt uses the crossbow.
How many lbs draw weight is needed for the arrow to go staight thru a rooi bok at 50 to a 100 meters
On a compound bow
Some samurai armor was actually made from paper to protect from arrows
For the dummies who are complaining about parts in the video, there's literally a button in the video that takes you to the complete thing, just get you attention span in order, quit shorts, and go see the whole thing
Well now I want some watermelon and an apple!
i mean to be fair we use stacks of pressed recycle paper to stop 22lr also
I think the field point would’ve done better in the plate test that the broad head did honestly.
Same, since it didn't cut. It smashed
I’m feeling really good about the Blazer Vanes after this one.
forget paper tuning, im watermellon tuning from now on. perfect bullet hole.
Really interesting video!
Now they will be coming for our bows
Shoulda tried a high-end 2-blade single bevel broadhead. They have much better cutting edges then those Muzzy Trocar style heads do. Something like an Iron WIll or a Sirius Tuff-Head I think could have gone through the paper and maybe even the cards . Heavier arrow would have done better too, something over 550grn.
apples: 5 apples?
I thought the fletchings would have stopped at the 10th apple, boy was i wrong.
I missed my bag one afternoon and shot through a steel tube
Love the videos Chris bee
The ford is awesome in the back ground.
In ancient China, paper was used to make armour against arrows; guess you just proved it still works.
Arrows will go through Kevlar where a bullet won't cuz the broadhead cuts through the fabric where a bullet just tries to push through
That’s a new way to paper tune
52 card pickup
You should try car doors & windshields
Best bow content on KZhead.
So instead of a paper tune do a watermelon tune? Haha awesome video as usual!
This is good news, if I ever need to paper tune my bow but only have a watermelon.
Arrow Apple skewer. 😂
I wanna see a high foc set up against these tests.
9:43 20 lb paper is the thickness of each paper not the combined weight😂
You should have done the first part of the video as a separate post. You could have done a vegan bow hunt!!!😂
Water is weird sometimes
Cool video chris
Turkey broadhead vs watermelon
No 11 is an archers dozen...lol
Yep, about 75 KE.. now test the momentum (slug) theory.
Again an important experiment.
Fun fact a sack filled with sand will stop a bullet, but an arrow passes it like butter.
Sand is great at dissipating energy which a bullet disperses on impact. I'm no engineer but that makes sense.
This is crazy to me. I accidentally shot a arrow through a single wide trailer. It went through one wall and stuck in the Sheetrock on the other side
i wana see vs crossbow hehe
Another awesome video
In a pinch in a, you know you can make body armor with a box of paper. lol. As long as someone is hunting you with a bow.
🔥💪🏼
never heard of 20# paper? that was funny
Demolition Bee....
Leprze ściągnięcia byś miał gdybyś strzelał cienką Strzałą OD 4,2 milimetr.
The real question is, what’s up with the F100 in the background
Can you split a playing card at 20 yds?
52 pick up
Ryobi tools... how you know Chris is an archer and NOT a contractor 😂
10 = a Bee's dozen 😅
20 pounds is the thickness of the paper. Not a weight value
