Catch, Clean & Cook Perfect Fried Shrimp!
Join me for a trip out on the St Johns River in NE Florida for a shrimping expedition. I will go out and show you how we catch the wild shrimp in our area, bring them back home and clean them for the table. Then I will teach you how to make the BEST FRIED SHRIMP you have ever tasted with my SECRET BATTER. I will fry them up in the old cast iron pot and serve them up with some HOME GROWN vegetables. Almost everything in this dish, I either caught or grew myself here. This dish gives a lot of satisfaction knowing where all of the main ingredients came from. I'm now an "Old Timer" and just trying to pass this information down to the next generation that wants to learn. Do you want to learn?

Alright! Another catch, clean and cook! 👍
Amen! Carry on Brother Scott!
Shrimp is one of my favorite things to eat! I know those were good! Fresh caught are always the best! That half cooler full *might* be enough for me all by myself! 😎👍 Keep them coming man. Pass on the old ways! 👊
I have two daughters I love dearly, 17 and 19. But I cant get them to learn cooking, canning, hunting or fishing. Everything comes from Walmart. Neither one even has any interest in my expansive cast iron collection. I dont know how this generation is going to do in the future. I just shake my head. Thank you for documenting and passing on the knowledge.
This is a problem these days. THat is why I brought it up in this video.
Would of watched on Sunday, but family is first. Thank you for sharing traditional expertise. Love you all . 😊😊😊 John T .
Always appreciate old ways🙏, sure makes cleaning shrimp less messy.
Good video my friend ! THANK you Frank from montana.....
river to table...love it! Some one is out there watching, it's good that you documented these procedures. No one knows the future but it can be a pleasant surprise.

Tajin is great on watermelon too backwoods 👍
It's pronounced 'taheen'. It's a Mexican seasoning. My granddaughter loves it. She and her dad are from there.
That looks absolutely delicious, Mr. Backwoods! I’m always looking for different ways to prepare fish and shrimp and this is a keeper! Also, you introduced me to okra in your gumbo recipes, and now I have another choice as a healthy side dish! Thanks for sharing!
Thank You! Another great video!
That looks soooooo delicious. 👍👍❤.
Taheen...good stuff!!
Great video!
Tajin on shrimp, it's great on fruit, never thought to try it on shrimp! Thanks. Tajin is pronounced tah-heen. Great stuff.

Id rather hunt my food. Ty for the lessons
I’m late to the party on this one.
Sprinkle some of the Tajin on orange slices,,,, from a tree that you grew of course, lol
Now you have me thinking about whiteys fish camp it’s been years sense I’ve been there!!!
My wife has been using Tajin for decades. I believe that the j has an h sound like jalapeños.
Yep, it is pronounced “Tah-heen”. And it’s good stuff!
OMG that looks so good. I would love the recipe my mouth is watering.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Looks good
You exaggerate I don't yell at you at least not for that 😂
Looks great
I'm not very fast at it but I can devein better 😊
👍🏻
1) Can I catch them here in SE FL rivers? 2) Can you use the heads for fish bait, crab bait? 3) love your channel and your food... when can you catch and cook with me? You n Mrs. take me out and teach me... I'm learning. But, right now I've learned that the river eats my hooks, my bait, my lures ALWAYS and I've lost my love😢
Try finding local forums where anglers in your area talk online. SE FL has several. Tight lines!
In the SE parts of FL they can be caught with cast nets or dip nets at night in the winter. Check your local tackle shops for the best gear. The heads are good crab bait, bet here the small fish clean them out of the bait trays really fast. Thank for watching.
Hello, neighbor! I've been subbed to your channel for a long while and just now figured out you are near Middleburg. Can you tell me the freeway in the video (bridge while you're catching the shrimp)? I need to get myself a cast net and practice up on casting, as it's been many years since I've cast for Mullet back in the day. I'd like to take my son and daughter out and teach them the way! Thanks again for the fantastic catch-clean and cook video! Cheers! Mac
This is the US17 bridge at Drs Lake. A very well know spot.
Thanks, Sir, I appreciate it!@@BackwoodsFloridaAdventures
Sr.that looks like hush puppies to me be from Florida and growing up on a shrimp boat your making bread we salt and pepper roll in some Cron mill and a give them a bath in some hot peanut oil.when they trun red they are done .no bater that makes them taste like bread.God Bless Y'all and keep making your videos.but us locals don't 🍞 Sea food before frying just a little fine Cron mill. The hole idea of the bread.was to make them fill up faster on less shrimp.
I did explain how the locals do it in the video.
Go drag a seine net off of Jekyll Island. Big shrump!
18:37? Is that a nod to Wal-Mart?
Where what state is your homestead home at. I am in northern Michigan. I have been trying to move to a safe place off the grid and put my homestead going.
Where’s the Natty Lite at today? Oh, I saw it. The throwback can. What’s with the caterpillar on your chest bra at 19:12?
Lapel microphone.
Palatka
Near. It is the St. Johns.
5:17 kind of tiny bra.
The old ways are slowly dieing so sad.
One day they will need it, and don't know it.
@@BackwoodsGourmetChannel you’re right
Beer battered is on topic? If so, a Modelo Negro has just the right hops. Good seeing you again.
