Boats have been available in Microsoft Flight Simulator for a while now. But are they are good thing or a bad thing? Are experimental fun mods ok, especially when they are premium items? I take a look to see if they are worth the time, money and effort.

Seems like a golden opportunity for sailing vessels. Imagine if this sim platform could evolve into an ecosystem that other games could insert themselves in. You could have boating, trains, trucks, farming, car racing and driving and on and on. What a wonderful (virtual) world that could be.
this would be a absolutely amazing game, but probably still a few years away from being possible to pull off well.
I said it when I first saw the tech in MFS but it would be amazing as a basis for strategy games or simulation-action games like Mechwarrior.
It sure would... but that would still take massive ammounts of work regarding world detail...roads alone are horrible :)
I just want Tic-Tac UAPs.
And you could buy and CUSTOMISE these vehicles! Imagine buying a massive yacht and outfitting it with all the impressive fittings and fixtures. Or a massive truck and trailering across the icy wastes.
Microsoft truck/boat/flight simulator. That would be the dream.
...and trains :)
Microsoft Transportation Simulator.
Metavera
@@Tb0n3 Man can dream. The ground work for a complete transport sim is here within MSFS
I mean, an official MicroSoft Boat Simulator would be nice. Trying to sail across the Atlantic would be a chore though.
Perhaps you can sail for an hr to somewhere on the route that will teleport or time accelerate you an additional 800km or so
Meh, set the autopilot and go to sleep, that's what you do in real life, just leave someone on watch but without fear of death may as well just risk it..
Tough going on VR
They use to have one back in the FSX days. There were various types of simulators then for some reason like Microsoft Links (Best Golf Game to this Day.) they disappeared.
I've done it in real life, so why not...
I can't speak for using boats in the sim, but there is an add-on that adds ships around the world based on real shipping schedules. It's pretty good!
Yeah, you're right. I bought it and like flying to airports with heavily populated harbors and/ship activities. I sometimes just use drone mode and like to follow ships around. I've seen some interesting ships, some that I've never knew existed as well. Even been to artic regions and seen unique research ships. It's pretty fun.
Any combat ships? And where did you find them?
It's called 'Global AI Ship Traffic MSFS V2'
@@stevenblackwell4903 I've ran into a few carrier ships in San Francisco, San Diego, and various locations near US military bases.
I don't see a problem with this kind of thing as long as it isn't pulling resources from the game's actual developers. I think ten pounds is maybe steep for something like that, thirty absolutely so, especially considering the long list of premium mods that someone will probably be wanting to purchase ahead of this. But value is in the eye of the consumer. If people want to pay for this, it's their money I guess.
Absolutely a good thing. Would be cool to see air land and sea all at once a possibility someday. Imagine being able to see player piloted planes flying above, while you run your boat or truck route. And vice versa
Boats might be interesting to take a ride, say from a marina or city shoreline to your floatplane a few miles away. When it comes to having cars in the sim. I've thought that it would be neat to drive from my home to my home airport for the experience of (feeling like) a real-life trip to go flying. Of course you'll have to spawn your plane once you get to the airport or waterway to continue you trip.
I think this in some way is a good way to work on your own boating skills. I have a state boaters Lic's, but at time it's hard to get on the waters, so this is helping me to keep in shape.
When the close up ground quality tech gets there, this stuff (along with cars) will be incredible
Oh I love it!! Please larger yachts too
I had a quick try of a ferry and loved it just because you get down close to the ground and it was quite impressive to be honest.
Extending MSFS to boats would be fantastic. I recently got my first boating license and would really like to practice navigation (identifying buoys and lighthouses) in MSFS. They just need to add nautical navigation data and refine water physics and currents. The world is already there! Go for it!
Thanks, great video. I'd love it if you could go sailing and the sim would track progress for next time you logged in. That would make long-distance sailing quite fun! There are other sailing sims that do this but they don't have the scenery!
Ahaha that hydrophobic tugboat! It’s just afraid to get in the water!
Hello Guy! I love these boats and yachts in my game. Now I can sail around the world from my home chair and in VR also. I want to see more mid & large size yachts add also.
I remember FSX had boats and weird things like this. I loved how moddable it was. Hell I remember Star Destroyers and other space ships, and servers where you could enable downloading so you could see all the special models
I use the (Y) key to bring my boat down easily to the water level when starting out high in the air and this works good for me.
This is awesome. It would be cool to see boats moving around by players
100% Even a proper player controlled Aircraft carrier for players to land and take off from!
To be honest it car, boat, plane doesn't matter it a different way to see the world and experience the world that many of us don't get a chance to see or do.
reminds me of the plane mods for assetto corsa, which actually work because the aero model in ac is so good.
The trick to spawning the speed boat is to set a destination and a departure location, then you can set the altitude in the world map and it won't spawn you several hundred feet up. At least that's what works for me. Really enjoy my boat when I want to take a break from something more serious.
Have you bought any of the more expensive ones? There is a sailboat that I want bad but, disabling my sim features made me want to wait a bit more.
"So... very expensive." That is an accurate critique of everything in that game's store.
I loved my boats in FSX. The ONLY reason I haven't got any boats for MSFS2020 is I'm not messing with my sim settings to have to play with them. Also, You probably can launch the boats proper by using floatplane airport facilities. Not sure since I haven't got any yet but I know you could do that with FSX. I want a couple of those sailing vessels REALLY bad!
Since they have winds in game this could make a good sailing sim.
Not the first time a boat was put into a MS Flight Sim. In MS Flight Sim 2002, one of the mods for it allowed you to sail a battleship. Wasn't the greatest mod by any means but conceptually it was rather funny.
I have always wanted to fly a boat.
I think Asobo needs to up their sea physics before I would consider even buying a boat addon.
I'd love to have boats, and other forms of transportation, somehow represented in this entire simulated Earth. Sure, sailing across the ocean in real time would probably not be practical. But man... just having the *option* to do it, if you really wanted to? So cool, imo.
You might be able to find some mods if you look deep enough, but they're probably pretty bad right now
It's a fantastic idea to make boat mods as cruising down the rivers of the world sounds amazing. The problem with paying for these mods is any game update can break them as we all know and the creator's may stop updating the mods at any time. The Steam workshop is full of broken mods.
I may be a bit biased, but this reminds me of old indie sailing/flight simulators like Virtual Sailor, Micro Flight and Vehicle Simulator.
I like the boats and the potential of where that could lead as a little fun side activity but if they’re going to add them they need to make the physics right, I.e. not dropping out of the sky! I mean older versions of flight simulator had a flying saucer! Bring that back!
Its just nice to see a different perspective on the world, I mean as this map scale is possible they could just copypasta the UK map and tidy the textures and get a forza horizon game with a 1:1 map
Ive always wanted a boating simulator or ship simulator so I think it would be cool
Each to their own. It’s definitely not something I’d be interested in, but I’m sure a lot of people will get some use out it. The only thing that will bug me, is seeing generic aircraft in the water if I’m using multiplayer.
Next video: How Microsoft created the Metaverse by accident.
Gimmie a sailboat, with realistic sail controls, realistic weather, wind patterns, and ocean crossings and we have a deal
You know they do have sailboat simulators. (eSail, SailWind, Sailaway) Most don't have visible crew though which takes away the immersion a bit, but they are pretty cool and I learned a lot about sailing before I bought my first sailboat years ago. Surprisingly, the sailing in Sea of Thieves is pretty good too.
This game, or the next iteration, should become just Microsoft Simulator... There's so much potential, so many vehicles, so many storylines could be created, quests, instanced multiplayer servers, deliveries, races, all within the spectrum of "simulation". Doing flights as a commercial pilot, or a private pilot... Doing a transatlantic haul... Even exiting the atmosphere to repair or place satellites in orbit... Doing Nat Geo research or footage... SO... MUCH... POTENTIAL...
Use the "Y" and position the boat with slew. I would like to leave it a a marina near a non airport I use. Still looking for that option!
Can't wait for Earth Legs ;)
Totally cool. Wish they would add some of these mods on Xbox.
wish they would make a car game with maps like MS Flight, would love to drive all over the world
It's nice but using some of the turbulence stuff that must be modelled for the aircraft to represent currents and waves action on the boat would have been impressive. Still nice to drive around the world at ground level. Guessing no sailing boats?
This is the absolute last thing I would expect from Flight Simulator but I'm happy it exists all the same. Honestly I think it's cool.
FSX had A LOT of boats. Some where VERY well made. Hoping to be sail around the world properly in MSFS2020 eventually.
This shows it'll not be long before we can choose to drive, fly, sail, ride etc around a real life earth.
“I’m on a boat!”
i have tried VFR landings in similar vissibility as seen at 5:00 in a DA62, there was 20 knots crosswind, the airport had no lights... it was... hard, and i toootally pulled it of on the first try! yep! toootally did! i absolutely did not try 32 times over 8 hours and 117 go arounds total before i gave up and watched cat videos on youtube for an hour... nope, i absolutely did not do that.
Wind: Affects boat Waves: Meeeh, WTFLMFAO It would be magic if we could combine FS2020+Star Citizen+Elite Dangerous+The Nordschleife into one GARGANTUAN super mind blowing game. Maybe in Heaven..
I hope MS will add official support to this engine for other vehicles. Boats (proper, fully functioning ones) would be amazing, but what about trains?!
If msfs can add realistic wake physics for aircraft/boats, as well as larger waves in the ocean (like a normal ocean) without having to crank the wind way up, then this would make for an awesome boat or even ship sim... I'd like to control larger ships in realistic ocean physics, or cruise in speed boats hopping over waves.. This is completely possible for them to make. People could make super realistic ship physics/movements if msfs can add realistic waves and wake physics. I could never justify purchasing boats when they don't even interact with realistic wake physics.. Even if that's not mod developers fault. Not worth buying boats till they make water act more realistic.
If it has boats then it must have trains to complete the treo and a new theme song!
Fishing next
This could work really well actually
I wish someone would do a drug cartel kind of game where you sell your stuff in an other country. And you start small with a tiny boat or an old airplane and later if you did well buy more expensive things to sell. And be able to build your house or an airport all for yourself.
Now we need simulated goats!
The problem with all these mods is that they are essentially flightless aircraft.
I want a Dodo Simulator.
Better example if you dont want to pay for a mod. Just use the ICON A5 as a boat. you can be a boat and a plane!
Does the sail boat actually function like a sail boat?
Now trains!
msfs can be an all-around sim with boats and aircraft. before that, they need water physics.
I remember boats and cars in flight sim 2004. But not to this detail. lol
Make explosions crash animations and nukes and war games and that will do it
We need a wave slider independent from wind 🌊
Lets hope we can also go underwater
just imagine, steaming with a tanker from harbor to harbor
I’d go to Venice!
What's the point in boats if they don't float on the waves? Driving straight through waves in high wind as if you're on a mill pond.....seriously, what's the point?
Oh yeah. Next is cars? Maybe combine forza horizon and msfs???
I'm waiting for them to add pogo sticks.
You know what they say: You get what you paid for and if it's free! Then don't be angry if things don't work the way it should!
Boats good. I’d have LOVED this when I was a kid.
Release a mod for true triple screen support and I'll ride a tricycle around the world, damn it
I mean might as well
This mod is accepted by MS? As in, using it won't get my account banned or anything?
Imagine getting mad about an add on to a game you love. Regardless of what it is.
But there's no real physics with the ship/boat on the water?
At this point, put Forza inside it. Yes, really. Just call it "Simulator" and drop the first part - and as someone mentioned, sailing would be cool. Doubt I will ever be able to afford a nice cata, so let me sail away virtually.
also - flying boats!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm really surprised of you choosing a departure point over water you don't use SLEW mode to lower your boat on the water instead of doing what you did.
Imagine if the sequel was just microsoft earth simulator
omg how do i use this mod?
I like the idea of boats in MSFS but I think the MSFS Speedboat really dropped the ball when modeling this boat. Boats don't sit level when underway. Boats also "bank" into turns. All dynamics that could have been modeled if they had made the effort. Wave interactions would be difficult so I could give them a pass on that. Some navigation instruments would have been nice too. It looks pretty but the modeling is awful. For a paid module it is a pretty lazy effort.
i wonder if you can let them fly using glitches
Most of you will think the prices for these boats are to high, but they are made very good and look like real boats! If you think these boats is high in price, then go take a look at Star Citizens Ship Prices!
Can you get the boats on xbox?
Lol nice
are these mods available on console?
How could they add boats before adding helicopters?!
Dude, still better the “cows” in DCS ;)
Venice please ;)
Good, but boats should behave at least mildly realistic, according to the waves. Now they behave more like trains.
Maybe as a pack for £10 but wouldn’t touch an individual item for £10 personally that’s not official.
I'm in 👏
Whatever floats your boat, I say.😜
Boats and garden tools...
I like the idea of boats, if people dont like it just dont use it for christ sake
1:40 - Just use SLEW commands.
Have to change the name of the game
Microsoft World Simulator. hear me out; Boats, Cars(Trucks), Trains, and of course Planes. All in a SINGLE live world. edit: also space ships/rockets like SpaceX Falcon 9
boat boat
annoyingly the boats tend to develop a pull to the right for me
If they do a better water physic, that could be BOTH simulator in one with a whole world to explore.
