This is a sad day indeed. Roger is a longtime friend and mentor of mine and one of the best guys I know. He is beyond principled and has done more for the community than anyone I know personally. He spent months with me back in 2013 helping to get our systems set up to be the first retail establishment in Japan to accept BTC at the register through our POS and all the bank compliance etc... Charles, you know him, I know him, and I believe this is another hack job to shut him up. He pisses off many powerful people by telling the truth and shining a light on corruption. Prayers are with him. We need the good guys to win sometimes at least or no one can believe in any of it any more.

unfortunately tax evasion is still tax evasion. doesn't matter how much the community was helped out, doesn't matter how many years have passed. there's no statute of limitations on this. a jury of his peers will get to review the financials and tax documents he signed, unfortunately will likely end up getting decades in a federal center for this. all of which was avoidable, just declare the gain and take the tax hit from the start. he could have just walked away and still have been financially independent.

I have several friends who have been falsely accused by the IRS and people can lose everything just proving they didn't do anything wrong. The IRS has nothing to lose but tax payer's money and they never pay anything when they falsely accuse someone. Just an "oops, our bad" while ruining people's lives. Recently corrupt people in power have been weaponizing the legal system to bankrupt and tie up opponents with so many legal issues they cannot possibly continue to oppose them. And there is a statute of limitations on "criminal tax fraud", it is 10 years. Roger legally renounced his US citizenship in Feb. 2014. Anyway, as far as I remember, our country was founded on the principal of innocent until found guilty so regardless I hope all will remember that. Just a side note from Roger's team: Just spoke to @rogerkver's attorney: He's in the same prison as McAfee, doesn't feel like he's in any danger, 100% not thinking of killing himself, and looking forward to fighting the case.

Roger is a really good guy. He ended leaving St.Kitts and living in Antigua for a bit. And he pushed Bitcoin and Bitcoin cash in Antigua to the point some stores and gas stations now accept it. He also kept Bitcoin meetups where he would buy everyone drinks, and teach blockchain. Super friendly except towards Calvin Aire who is also heavily involved in Antigua. I hope this becomes a fine or minimum jail time because this guy does not deserve to be locked up

"alleged" is a term to protect the person/entity who is asserting a claim, that a court of law has not yet determined to be factual.
