A regal male lion hunts a hyena cub in the middle of the road. The cub's small size makes it no match for the hungry lion. Get your hands on Latest Sightings Merchandise here: latestsightings.com/shop
A 20-year-old student with a passion for wildlife, Tanisha Rach, recently had an unforgettable experience at Kruger National Park that left her feeling both exhilarated and humbled. She shared the sighting and footage with LatestSightings.com. Send in your wildlife video here and earn money: www.latestsightings.com/partn...
"After a long day of searching for elusive cats, my group and I were driving back to the Phabeni Gate when we spotted movement in the distance. As we drew closer, we were thrilled to see a magnificent male lion strolling along the road, asserting his dominance."
"While sitting with the lion, a shadow appeared in the road ahead. At first, we were unable to identify the figure. As it got closer, it became clear that the figure was a young hyena, oblivious to the danger it was getting itself into. What followed was a surreal and awe-inspiring scene as the lion began hunting the hyena cub. Despite our initial impulse to intervene, we knew that interfering would disrupt the natural balance of the environment. So we watched on with heavy hearts."
"The lion proceeded to deliver a fatal blow to the young cub." This resulted in instant death for the vulnerable cub.
Lions and hyenas are age-old enemies. Any opportunity to eliminate the other will not be missed. Lions have an intrinsic hatred for hyenas, as hyenas are known to bully lions off their kills. One-on-one, a hyena stands no chance. When the odds are in favor of the hyenas, the results are often in their favor.
"This was an extremely rare occurrence, as the last time I witnessed a hunt was five years ago. The lions’ instincts kicked in, and he was off. The young cub stood no chance."

@@titancrush8956 Nope. Didn't work. Still can't stand them.
I’m not an animal expert, but I’m pretty sure walking in the middle of the road is not a good idea
It isn't such a dumb idea actualy. First of all it's much easier to walk along a road than through tall grass Second is that roads aren't covered by grass and trees so the wind blows more easily, making it cooler and less insects to deal with. Third is that depending on the road, the prey animals might have a better vantage point to look out for predators. But seeing as this is a young hyena, it hasn't learned the dangers to look out for
It’s not a bad idea. Easier to walk on road, more distance from possible threat since there’s no cover nearby. If walking in woods even tall grass can conceal a potential threat. Problem with this scenario is cub is young and inexperienced, and male lion is at his prime. Hyena was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
it works 90% of the time every time
@@Girjon05 I think wondering through natural habitat with bushes, rocks and so on would make it harder for a lion to spot a stray than looking down a straight road. If the cub stayed off the road he might by some chance even find his own clan if he did not wonder to faraway.
@@johnsolberg5611 Well tehcnicaly it could work. But you have to remember that some animals preffer to stay hidden while others preffer a good view. Take animals such as leopards, bushbucks, dik-diks, those are animals that rely on stealth for survival, so for them moving silently through vegetation is the preffered choice. Then are animals such as zebras, wildebeest, baboons and hyenas, those are animals that don't use stealth for survival, and they preffer to have a better view to spot threats. Of course walking through vegetation could camouflage the cub, but being a hyena, it probably isn't able to quietly move around there
Every time it's lion vs hyena, regardless of circumstances, I pull for the lion. Every time.
Hyenas are smart animals. Smarter than lions. But yeah I root for the lions too. 🤣🤣

"The cub's small size makes it no match for the hungry lion." I'd assume a hyena of adult size wouldn't stand a chance against that lion either.
Adult hyenas do sometimes escape with their lives even against lions. They aren't easy to kill.

What's heartbreaking about it? Animals are doing what animals naturally do. So many commenters must think the whole world is a petting zoo with cute animals for making videos.
It is. But I also think of the hyenas that eat big game animals stuck in the mud while they are still alive. It's life and death. It's nature. It's reality.
Why is it heartbreaking? A lion has to eat.
@@CrookedNose2131 It is entirely possible to understand that it is just nature but still find it unfortunate for that little cub. It's a thing called empathy, homie.
So many generations later and Simba's descendants still have gripes with the hyenas. In all seriousness, that's the harshness of life in the Serengeti.
Well done. One on one is valid, unlike the 5x1, 10x1, that hyenas usually do.

Correct.
Male lion is the most disgusting animal ever. They kill all kinds of cubs including lion cubs unless they were their own offspring
I absolutely hate animal propaganda. Especially lions. Lions on their own are cool though, but not kings. Spotted hyenas are closer to royalty group wise, than lions will ever be. Let me see a lone without claws and a smaller jaw than average take down a fully grown wildebeest.
@@GenericDan Lions are the top predator of the Savannah. They are definitely the kings.

I don't think the lion was all that hungry. Male lions kill hyenas because they prey on unguarded or wandering lion cubs. He was protecting the lion pride from possible future predation of his offspring. And outsider male lions do the same thing with other pride's lion cubs. It's a tough world out there.
