$32 ticket hack for Europe's best train journey
$32 TICKET HACK FOR BERNINA EXPRESS, SWITZERLAND
Local trains go over the exact same route in the mountains. I did it in Summer 2021, even getting off once halfway to go for a walk and shoot the train going over the Landwasser Viaduct and then get back on a later train.
Either use your interrail or eurrail pass to get on to the local trains with no reservation.
Or book through Deutsche Bahn from a German city e.g. Singen (as shown in the screenshot) for just 29 euros (32 USD). See the Seat61 page about the Bernina Express for more details on that hack, and consider this a general shoutout to that website if you're planning a Eurotrip!

Can confirm it’s basically the same experience as the tourist train. I believe sometimes even the trains are the exact same. I did this a while ago. Needless to say, it was completely worth the money
The local train runs every single hour. So you can get out at any stop, enjoy the view and hop on the next train, all with the same ticket. You can even do this multiple times.
where would be some places to stop?
Love these budget tips!
Great hack. I lived there for many years and traveled this railway line countless times. A fantastically beautiful mountain region.
Mastermind most smart Tourist i EVER heard good For you
Yep used this going from Italy up to Zürich a few years ago. Its amazing scenery for miles and miles.
I might have to do it again haha
Yep, did that last year, from Tirano to Aachen for 49.90 in first class. The gentleman I talked to on the train between Chur and Zürich paid more for his 1st class return, with a Halbtax...
🚀 Fly me to the moon! (Thanks for the travel tip…).
but what is spring like on Jupiter and Mars ??
Prolly less pollen. Achoo! 🤧
Undoubtedly this works great for people who are only spending a day in Switzerland taking the Bernina Express. For tourists spending a week or two in Switzerland, it's a no brainer for them to get the Half Fare Card (120 CHF). With that, they can book the Saver Day Pass in advance from SBB for as low as 29 CHF. While this German DB ticket is only valid one-way and route specific, the Saver Day Pass allows unlimited usage, for one whole day in the whole of Switzerland, on all trains, public transport and even boat rides. So it would make more sense than the DB ticket. 😊
Hello I plan to visit switzerland and would like to take this train trip while there I am already buying the Swiss travel pass. Does this train need a different pass IE the saver day pass that you mentioned?
ı want to take a train from milan to tirano then from tirano to switzerland. But ı do not know how can ı take the local train tickets before ı go?
Wow a very nice tip! I would like to try this out! Do you have a full video for this?
It's one section of my video on my channel from a couple of years ago, titled "I rode Europe's most scenic train for less"
@@thornton thanks! I have just watched it. You channel is a gem!
@@GunturBudiHerwanto Aw thanks, that's really nice!
What if we start from Zurich and wanna go to Milan? And if we have Interrail ticket
That's a great tip have to rember that
hey I have a q; if I booked from Singen to Tirano and one of the changes are at Zurich, would I be able to hop on at the Zurich train stop or would I still have to get on at Singen? (Since I can only get a flight to Zurich so would have to travel to Singen to go past Zurich again 😂)
🤩👏🏽
I can’t find the 29€ ticket. I only get 95€ tickets over the app
You have to book these tickets really early, I found some for 42 Euros if you book now for October/November
Same here.. the prices you found are for the upcoming days. If you adapt your search to about 7+ days the regular price will show up, which is 49.90€ for this trip.
Hi i'm from London and plan on travelling by train over this same rail way. We are going on August 11th. Please can you let me know how we can get the open top train from Chur to Tirano? And where to order it from in advance? I'm so confused. Please reply A.S.A.P! Thank you!
What german station would you choose from to get the cheaper tickets? (I'm going from the UK and would fly to Germany or Switzerland)
The screenshot is from Singen :) Konstanz, Engen, Freiburg potentially all work? Not sure
@@thorntonthank you so so much! I'm going to check them all out now and see which is cheapest :D
@@thorntonokay so I found tickets for 99 euro for 2! Very happy as it's much cheaper than going to Switzerland and travelling to st moritz. Thank you again!
Help? I am flying into Frankfurt and want to get to Milano. What train company should I use?
