The Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary's mission is to provide a self-sustaining African carnivore sanctuary for the purposes of wild species preservation through education, awareness and funding, especially pertaining to the rapid decline of large carnivores in Africa due to habitat loss, human-predator conflict, unscrupulous hunting, disease and their illegal trade.
To raise awareness, Kevin has now set up his KZhead Channel 'LionWhispererTV'. The channel is all about raising awareness about not only the declining numbers of lions, but also how this rapid decrease is happening. By watching these videos, you are directly contributing to our scheme of land acquisition.
Kevin captures the majority of his footage on GoPro cameras, allowing the viewer to get as close as possible to the lions.
By doing this, Kevin hopes to give people an insight into the lives of these beautiful creatures and to let them see just what they can do to help. You can nearly touch them.

  • His response to how the lions would react to someone else was very thorough and showed a great deal of intelligence on his part. Not many people can think that abstractly with that level of detail. if I had never watched a single video of his but saw a clip of this answer, I'd know just by his response that he is more than qualified to be handling and discussing these animals.

  • I adopted an adult homeless neighborhood cat three years ago (he’s probably ten years old now). I’ve worked very hard to bond with him, and I think I’ve been pretty successful. He clearly trusts me and enjoys my company. During these three years, I’ve paid close attention to how Kevin interacts with his cats and I’ve learned a LOT! I think a lot of my success is due to giving love, attention, respect and freedom to my cat. A year ago, I saw my cat rolling around in dirt, and if it wasn’t for Professor Richardson, I wouldn’t have understood what he was doing. In the beginning, my cat frequently bit me and clawed at my arm pretty severely. I said “Ow!” and “No!” and gave my cat a five or ten minute time out (from attention), and now he NEVER attacks me. If my cat doesn’t like what I’m doing, he will very gently bite me or take a swipe at my arm and INTENTIONALLY miss. He knows I understand because I give him space when he does this (which is EXTREMELY rarely). My cat is a wonderful friend and I owe at least some of this to watching these videos.

    • TheTooginator if he like puts his mouth in a biting position but only pushes down very softly or slides his teeth, it’s called a love bite, he loves you if he does that but if he’s hurting you, no

      @adamg1858@adamg18584 жыл бұрын
    • Adam G - That’s a good point. He doesn’t hurt me when he bites me. It may be a love bite, but it seems like a warning. Hard to tell.

    • TheTooginator cats warn when they scratch you or they hiss at you, it’s really just hissing but they bring up their paw and sheath their claws with the hiss most of the time

      @adamg1858@adamg18584 жыл бұрын
    • Adam G - The only time Panther hissed at me was when I surprised him accidentally. He felt REALLY guilty because he realized it was an accident. I know he felt guilty because he was more affectionate than he had EVER been about ten minutes after he hissed at me. Panther had lived as a stray for about six years before I adopted him, so he was a bit feral when I brought him in. He didn’t understand that he shouldn’t scratch and bite the hell out of my arm. It took about six months of giving him ten-minute time outs (I just went into another room and ignored him for ten minutes, then I came back and petted him) for him to realize I didn’t like being injured. My strategy took a while, but it worked! I knew he had that impulse to grab my arm and rip it to shreds, but I said “Ow!” and “No!” and gave him short time outs when he did this. He still has those impulses, but he is AMAZING at restraining himself! I don’t push my luck when he gets too feisty, but he is WAY faster than I am and can grab my arm at any time, but he doesn’t. I’m REALLY proud of Panther! I have a nasty allergy to cat scratches, so I have to be careful. When I was a teenager, my cats would attack my arm and I was fine (other than telltale scratch marks), but I just became allergic over the years. Panther is the first cat I’ve had in forty years.

He understands these animals so amazingly well and give them the best possible life they could have in captivity. Yes he allows visitors to come and see his animals but what Kevin doesn't truly educational, if you watch the Tiger King documentary you see what abuse of these big cats really looks like in these Cub petting operations. From the bottom of my heart I think people like Kevin he is the only kind of person who should be allowed to own these animals. I have so much respect for Kevin and his team.

They were extremely curious, even running after our vehicle a little bit - we of course stayed away, but couldn't help laughing at how social they were. The older lions were aloof to us. Obviously used to tourists and vehicles, but had zero interest in our presence, haha.

He was in a cage on the gate and a bunch of us were watching the cub and admiring how beautiful he was. He was about 30-40 pounds,and just watching us,not agitated at all. Stupid me sticks my fingers down through the top and scratched his head. He loved it,pushed up against my fingers like,hey,that feels great,don’t stop! His fur wasn’t like a dogs fur,more stiff and tawny. An experience I still remember today. Probably not the smartest thing I’ve ever done,could have gotten hurt,but he was surprisingly calm considering the amount of noise and activity around him. Beautiful animal!❤️❤️❤️

I wish that all of the people who are saying terrible things about you or your lions since the tragic events of this past week would have watched all of the educational videos (like this one) to see exactly what you are trying to tell people. You are one of the most - if not THE most - knowledgeable people regarding the behavior of lions and I will never stop supporting the work that you do. I pray for you, as I do for all of the animals under your care. I pray that no animals will lose their lives due to the tragic accident that occurred. I pray for the family members and friends of the deceased. I just am so sorry that this happened to you....who are always so honest and careful about the challenges of working and living around these beautiful animals. • This man , Kevin , is a great lover of animals , and together he have a great sacrosanct respect for them . And it's very difficult having and loving free animals and keeping them in cage or in fences how much it is large . However I hold him in high esteem and have symphaty .

  • Kevin is an amazing guy. So devoted and dedicated and driven by his love for these beasts. I never realised that Hyenas were anything other than vicious killers. I love these videos.

  • It really makes me feel sad to see you getting old. I don't wanna see you getting old. I wish from the bottom of my heart that you live long and live young. You are a great human being and my role model. If it was possible for me then I would have definitely come and meet you. I don't have words to express my feelings to you. You are like a god to me. Thanks you so so much for everything thing Kevin. I feel blessed when every I see you. 🙏

  • I never get tired of watching meg and Amey. They are so nice. I always wonder if they are happier with you in their current situation vs the real wild. I think being in your situation is much better for them , not only because they could get shot but because they like the love and easy meals. So what is the ideal? Love is the ideal.
