Proof that black metal has no boundaries and it's a huge field for experimenting.
I once had a choir teacher say, about the baroque era, that it is frequently when aesthetically rules are tighter that artists get more creative, to be able to produce art that “respects” the rules of the era but also offers something new and interesting. Same applies here
Words 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I mean it's 99% straight tremolo picking, wouldn't call that a "diverse" genre tbh
I'd say that more than a musical genre with boundaries black metal is a lens through which you can cast music. It explains why so many of the subgenres are blackened versions of other metal genres (or of unrelated music, like blackened surf rock lol)
@@LuckyPkerzthere is a variety in it. You just can’t see it
Good evening and thanks for joining me for some Black Metal !!
Как можно было забыть о Silencer?😥
Who keeps making up all these ridiculous categories. Almost all are redundant.
This was a random suggestion from the algorithm. After #2 I decided to stick around.
Awesome brother 🤘🏽 question, which model LTD is that??
Thank you. 57, love your channel
Dinner is ready, the baby is asleep, and TheSuffocater has uploaded a new video. Life is good.
.. but it won´t be forever ! Join me on the dark side .. also: is there desert ? ;)
Respect for Alcest and Antestor including! Great bands!
Will check them out. Sounds so good
❤❤Antestor
AND SADNESS!
Should've played Horde, instead. Hellig Usvart was the biggest shit disturbance in black metal since Varg shived Euronymous.
There are really only two kinds of black metal: single string tremolo picking black metal and arpeggiated minor chord black metal.
110% bro
no, dsbm uses major chords sometimes
No: just two kinds. Cool en not cool.
True Kvlt tremolo picks all the strings at the same time
Yep
Thanks for including Severoth!
My pleasure, love your music !!
Atmospheric Black Metal is truly a spiritual experience. I was more into Metalcore, Death Metal, Deathcore, until I started to Discover Akhlys which combined Metal and ambient, two things dear to my heart.
Damn this almost sounds like me lol. Was super big into metalcore, deathcore, death metal and tech death. Somehow stumbled upon elderwind and got pulled into BM and all its subgenres
I didn't realize there were so many Black Metal subgenres. Really awesome bands & songs you showed! Really cool video!!!
some of these are splitting hairs a little bit, like blackgaze and post-black are basically the same thing, depressive black metal and melancholic black metal are the same thing, Epic Black and Folk Black are the same thing, Unblack barely counts as a subgenre as it is based on lyrical themes. It's still a good video though
Also raw and true Norwegian are pretty close and not very clear music wise
@@garfield5667Also, there are blackened crust, nsbm is not musical style, it can be everything, from "normal" black metal like Ad Hominem, folk black metal, raw black metal like Goatmoon, or mix black metal/ RAC like Absurd. There is even psychedelic black metal, Oranssi Pazuzu is the best example. There is avant-garde, dissonant black metal too like Deathspell Omega, industrial bm etc... And there are bands like Ondskapt, Ofermod, Acherontas, Akhlys, Nightbringer who call themselves orthodox, occult bm. Industrial BM, the pioneer was Snorre "Thorns"
man, I didn't expect to be reminded of Windir after all this time...
Hail Valfar!
Valfar, ein Windir!!!🤘🏻
Yeah Windir is one of my favorites even with all the good stuff.... If Valfar didnt die i wonder what he would have releaser!
@@michellemire8462 must’ve been too legendary for this earth!
You should’ve never forgotten.
You know it's serious when Archgoat is on the list ☠️🔥 Respect for including Dissection, Antestor, Alcest and Celeste. Imma have to check that blackened sludge 🤘🏻
Yeah, that was nice!!! 🤘🏽
If you’re looking for more blackened sludge some personal favorites include Lord Mantis, Coffinworm, Clarion Void and Vual. Hope you enjoy em!
@@AcrezulDragogen I very much appreciate all the suggestions! I'll check them all 🤘🏻
OÜGH
I see, I click, I like
- Julius Caesar
Killer! The lack of Summoning is a bummer though. Classifying Rotting Christ as Gothic BM was an interesting choice
Woulda been good to do Summoning instead of Dimmu Borgir
That one song, yes. Definitely not all of their work.
Rotting Christ used to be black metal, but they've steadily added more and more gothic and folk elements to their stuff. Some of their songs are pretty much Viking Metal or Pagan Metal, while some of their songs are just Gothic Metal. But a lot of those gothic songs they have still retain Black Metal elements
Yeah, there's no strict right or wrong category for a lot of these. There's a lot of death metal in Dissection, for instance.
Man Windir is so fucking epic. Awesome work as always mate.
The choice of Abscission for Avantgarde Black Metal shows that this guy knows what he's doing. And I even feel simpathy for his struggle to get the riff right (it's tough).
you randomly picked MANY of my favorite black metal tracks!!! \m/
THANK YOU FOR ADDING WINDIR Todeswalzer by Windir was the first black metal song I ever heard and have been forever hooked by the band for almost 10 years
The way your head fits perfectly in the Archgoat logo is golden!
What timestamp is that?

New sub genres to explore, thank you! Epic production, love the grainy black and white effects on that last one. Your hair is pretty damn epic as well! Eldamar instantly grabbed me, especially as a Tolkien Geek!
Thanks mate !
Suggestions for videos: - Neoclassical metal Vs Symphonic Metal - Helloween vs All (Power Metal) - Entombed Vs Dismember
It’s amazing how much your hair has grown!! Hell yeah brother stay heavy.
So Nice that you put Eldamar in this video !!!
This is exactly what I have been looking for yesterday on your channel.trve kvlt!
Another reason I love your videos. I never knew there were that many black metal genres. And I've learned a lot of bands I've never heard of either. Thanks for another great riff video as always
Than you for another amazing playlist! And thanks for including Harakiri and Alcest 🔥
One of the best channels on KZhead regarding metal guitar and its techniques, I really like the way you show the differences in harmony and approach. Very enlightening!
I just want to say, through your channel, I've discovered a lot of bands I may never have heard of. Thanks for all the awesome work you do!
I love these quick showcases. This inspired me to look into three new bands (for me)
Ooh I ain't heard Antestor in years... That track brings out so many memories
Thank you for this! i've been needing a bit of inspiration! BM forever!
Very cool that you included Antestor, they have been around a long time and are a highly underrated band!
In Industrial Black Metal it is Thorns 2001, and in Blackened Thrash is Persecution Mania
Love watching these videos cuz there’s always some new band that I always end up at least checking out
Antestor’s The Forsaken is so immensely good.
❤
Such a killer album!
Love these videos. I always find great stuff to run over to Spotify and put on a playlist. Never a disappointment. Keep up the great work brother 🤙
Great playing as always 🤘🏼
Loved this. Didn't know Witchery and went straight to hear some more. Thanks!!!
Thanks for including Ildjarn!
Superb - loved your selection!
Love finding new things to check out and your playlist gave me more than a few !! Hail \m/
An outstanding selection! Thank you.
Great mix! Thanks for Severoth. 2 years ago i discovered this band and now i am fan of his music.
WINDIR!!!!!!! Beautiful music!!! Cheers.
All your videos are greattt, btw you're a great guitar player too by all those riffss
Always such good track choices when performing. Great!
I never thought that you could include Antestor, good one!
You’ve absolutely nailed all of my favorite black metal bands, and songs. Yours tributes are legendary! Keep it real, but most importantly, keep it heavy!!!!!!!
Hell yeahhh ! Thanks mate !
Love these videos. Great way to find different bands to check out.
never thought about calling satyricon black n roll but it makes so much sense
Not the early releases. First two were heavily standard black metal of the time. Mother north very symphonic. Rebel extravaganza was quite industrial. All of those albums are absolute killers. Only got black n roll-ish following Volcano.
AFAIK it's only the album King
I Was so happy to hear that Mysticum reef! This album is a 10/10. Also glad you included Mizmor on this one, you are truly black metal!!!
Finally some black metal!
Norwegian is surf rock with distortion
😂
Everyone knows it
I love how you dig recent releases Props for Mizmor man ! Forever Underground ! Great Video
This channel really is my goto channel for finding new bands to listen to. This channel, and Black Metal Promotion. We need more ppl like them in this world.
ARCHGOAT!!!!!!!
Very well!!!!! I only missed Blackend Crust (Dödsrit, Ancst, Downfall of Gaia, Martydöd etc.) .....
Super. Getting such a niche genre and playing it wonderfully well
I love the choice of riffs for a lot of these, you clearly know whats up
Thanks for making me aware of Outre! I really like their sound.
great work as usual, i learned something new!
Antestor is legitimately some of the best black metal out there.
Hilarious opinion
@@damnedbelowjudas_ , yes, your bad opinion is hilarious. 🤣🙄🤣🤣😂
It can be considered good music but not black metal. Unblack metal is the correct definition and for obvious reasons, it cannot be considered black metal by any means.
@@boneless4799 , you're an absolute tool to think that, bahahaha
@michelecivini4799 , anyone who thinks "unblack" doesn't fit every definition for black metal- except the idiotic "Satanism"/"Paganism" nonsense that needs to fade into obscurity- and still claims that so-called "Unblack" is separate from Black Metal is a tool. This whole "ONLY TR00 KVLT" nonsense also makes one a tool. The legendary Hellhammer played session drums on their 2005 album.
Windir is amazing, glad you picked them
Great to see you back cheers!
You never disappoint :) All the best and good luck!
Great Video again. Great knowledge in metal.
Awesome man, my favourite genre, and I enjoy pretty much all the subgenres except raw/lo-fi even if I kinda understand it. Always good to have a few new bands to check out too :)
Nice video, black metal is my favourite metal genre, and each band has its own unique style. But i think Finnish black metal could be categorized as a separate subgenre as well, it has a distinct riff style that is very easy to recognize. And it seems you left out two specific black metal subgenres that could turn the comment section into Operation Barbarossa 2.0 😉
Impaled Nazarene is the best black metal band ever, it would have been perfect for that Finnish black metal genre. I know the other specific black metal genre is NSBM, which is the other one?
@@aitokoojii1462 RABM, red and anarchist black metal, or as the NSBM volks usually call, commie black metal
Politics does not define a musical genre. However he didn't include blackcore.
@@bruitationbecause everything ending in core sucks
Grindcore would like a word@@SirKibble88
That was awesome. Good job man 🤘🏻
I was expecting some Mgla or Aura Noir, but I discovered a few bands I'm definitely gonna look into! Great video as always!
Extra thumbs up for using the best part of "Mourning Palace". I don't listen to much black metal but sometimes it hits just right.
Thanks for sharing new bands that i dont know it before
Thx for another great video! Triarchy of the lost lovers is my favorite Rotting Christ album, actually! I grew up in the haydays of black metal with Enslaved, darkthrone, Dissection, Brzm, etc. I lost interest in the black metal scene around the year 2000, many of the same same bands were around and the big bands didn't put out a lot of great stuff for me (except Darkthrone, they never dissapoint)... But I thank you for introducing Eldamar, I never heard of them, but now it's on my "to check out" list. Cheers from Belgium
great track picks for most of the subgenres i knew of beforehand
This was absolutely beautiful! lml
Nice to see Eldamar be remembered
Fantastic video!!!!
Always a good source for new bands and new songs, thx.Summoning and early Behemoth ( From the Pagan Vastlands for ex ) could make the list.
great video, dissection is my fave
Great vid. I think blackmetal is the most exciting and interesting metal genre today. So many new and good bands who experimenting.
Including Kanonenfieber was a nice touch!
Eldamar sounds amazing! Nice to see Enslaved on this list, they're extremely underrated 🤘🏽
Thanks for including Kanonenfieber
All Black Metal Genres Matter! Great work on getting the 'tones' peeled away from the "MIDS". Continued SHredding Success!
Great Job! There are So Many Subgenres Of Black Metal!
This sounds incredible. And a lot of stuff I'm not super familiar with. Guess I have some listening to do! Many thanks.
Great vid! Besides Mayhem and Burzum, Ildjarn feels so pure and authentic.
As always, very good. You have broden my BM knowledge. ... And yes, the olden "raw black metal" sound very nostalgic reminding me times when i took audio cassetes from other guys to get chance to listen BM. ...Btw, I am watching you from Russia.
Thanks mate ! Greets from germany !
Думаю, нас здесь много, спасибо!
Sounds awesome 🙌👍
Fantastic as usual. I'm not a big fan of black metal but this really makes me want to check out these bands! Thanks.😃😃
Listen to "Sing for the damage we've done" by Harakiri For the Sky. It is a great song and might be a nice gateway into the genre for you. Also, try "Caravan of Broken Ghosts" by Darkthrone. It is another good song that can help tune your ear for Black Metal. And if you want to explore more, you can try out "the Hordes of Nebulah", "Quintessence", and "In the Shadow of the horns" also by Darkthrone.
Great video! Thanks for including 4:39 Windir - Todeswalzer, it’s a great song, everyone should hear the original in its entirety. And the rest of the album (“1184”), the last song is great too, “Journey to the End”.
This is awesome so many great tunes here, I guess I didn’t realize how many sub genres there were in black metal. 🤘🎸
Awesome playing !
Really awesome video! I was expecting to see Sumerian Black Metal with Melechesh 😮
NSBM; Proto-Black Metal; Dissonant Black Metal; Black-Hop; Funeral Black Metal - Here's five more to get thirty.
Funeral Black would've been awesome to include!! love that genre
Not fucking NSBM
@@na3th610yes, it does exist. No need to be that overly dramatic about that.
Including NSBM would be to akin to including rotting bread in a list of 25 types of bread. Like why even bother with that trash
So happy to see blackened sludge getting some recognition!! ❤
Absolute stunning! 💪🤘
Cosmic Black Metal also exists!
Love that you mentioned Celeste, they are an excellent band
This is awesome, my friend. Probably my favorite of all your vids. Only thing missing? Finnish Black Metal. Satanic Warmaster in particular. Great job though, as always.
You ended it with Ildjarn, beautiful. Forest poetry is my most listened to album.
Finally James May playing some black metal🤘
