Sir Charles Spencer "Charlie" Chaplin, KBE (16 April 1889 - 25 December 1977) was an English comic actor, film-maker, and composer who rose to fame in the era of silent film. Chaplin became a worldwide icon through his screen persona "the Tramp" and is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the film industry.
His career spanned more than 75 years, from childhood in the Victorian era until a year before his death in 1977, and encompassed both creative genius and controversy.
Music by Max Richter.

  • People always compare Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, but in reality, their styles of comedy were so unique and brilliant in their own ways that we can't really compare them. I like to look at them as equals.

    • I’m reading his autobiography right now. I’m convinced that he was truly one of a kind….like a messiah of the silver screen, a shooting star that left a trail across all of time. His life and his art were unparalleled. To rise from such extreme poverty to literally become the most famous man on the face of the earth is one of the most amazing stories of all time. His talent and genius transcends time. People will still watch in awe and wonder 1000 years from now.
