The engine still doesn't fit... now what? 😐
We're still trying to get this big block 460 Ford engine to fit. Doug is going to cut out a section of the chassis then start cutting out some of the floor while Bad Chad builds a fuel tank for the 1936 Hudson. We had some minor issues happen with the grinders today.... 😐 bonus episode

Make the frame way to weak
I love Bad Chad and the gang but, sometimes I question the thought process. The engine doesn't have to sit so far back and so high. Put the engine in where it belongs. Lower center of gravity, no chop up the frame. lots more room. The little Match Box car only has a visible hood scoop mounted back into the cowl. So put the scoop where you want it and duct it to the carbs.
I agree soon there is not going to be any more to cut lol but I'm sure he will figure it out. It can all be fixed . I get he is being stubborn on the scoop. But OMG that slot of cutting.
This is crazy!
so you with your 3 subs is questioning this guy and woman? re group.. and question yourself
@daddysails8926 what?
@@atv950 yea you see the first comment? read it. then read mine. put it together.
Canadien Chainsaw Massacre!
You are going to need a strong frame with that motor. Lots of slicing and dicing going on!
Starting to get dangerous here now… that frame not gonna hold.
agreed will not hold
He will reinforced the frame I'm sure he's been building cars for years
Then replace it 😅😂
Just remember community, they asked for comments😊. And that’s what they’re getting, good and BAD😊.
Yey at last a comment that points out it's an open site for open public comments good or bad,
Might be easier building a custom chassis for the engine and body
Could of just widen out the cross and boxed it out making the transmission tunnel wider the torsion bars are going to need to be relocated as well to late now no going back it is what it is now not much frame left to reinforce. But I only build race car frames so what do i know. Even cutting it this way I think I would have at least added a few cross members to keep the frame from moving until you can some how enforce the frame back
I agree sometimes the longer path is the shortest way home a common sense approach
No no bad chad are proffesionel 😅
A full chassy would be much syronger and also work much better .That old wish bone frame cant handle the power they are trying to produce also the old rear end cant stand the pain ,they will rip it right out
If this situation gets worse get a mid 70,s 2 wheel drive ford pickup. Take the 40 Ford body and mount it on the truck frame. Cut the frame as needed to set wheel base correctly. The 460 will bolt in with correct mount brackets. Frame is stronger and its easy to bolt in rear axle of choice. You can adapt that steering column to the ford power steering box.
Mid 70s ford truck frame track width is at least 2 or 3 inches too wide,,,,
did you eat lead paint chips as a child?
Did you???? @@daddysails8926
An excellent suggestion !!!
All depends whether or not he has one, or has to find one and buy it, remember cheap and what you have, on the other hand, he could do what everyone else does and replace it with square stock? all the best to you all
We are on air here at KNUCKLE HEAD GARAGE !!! That’s how they should start the show !!! 😂 chads famous saying I don’t want to cut out more then I have to, why don’t you guys think the motors not in yet. You’re not cutting out enough 🤯🤯🤯 crazy to watch the thought process. Think I’ll go and put my neck brace on it’s hurting from shaking my head so much 😂
and change your diaper too
Don't pay any attention to daddysails, he's just trying to get Chad to love him and dump Jolene.
@@jeffheaps4416 glad to see your still here
YOU HAVE TO CUT THE X MEMBER and remake it so you can access the gearbox pan if necessary and the motor has to have room to flex a little when you accelerate and back off !!!!
Needs a custom oil pan where the sump is in the rear of the motor. Then you can lower the engine down more on the front.
I wish Nathan was here!
We got to make sure you support that frame before you even put that engine even to test or try it out if it fits
why
we saw why
Cutting it all to pieces to accommodate that big blown engine yet using that relic of a rear end that can't possibly stand that kind of power.
Pay attention he already said he’s not using that rear end, it’s only for mockup !!!!
@brucewitcpalek5120 that's the problem people don't pay attention. Just keep watching it will be awesome in the end. Until then enjoy the journey!!
Stop it, they know that,geez
@@Aaronlewis8846 exactly how I feel about it. Some of these people are just something else !!
Hes going with that rearend
You could put the body on the lift and then try and fit the engine down in the frame. But the X frame wasn't designed for a big block engine
Dont ask me ....leave it up to nate to figure it out...if ii bought a 8 thousand dollar motor i would want to see it run ...i have trust problems been burned more than once...tube frame would be nice.
X frame has to go if your poking that motor back that far then strut arms have to be shortened or leaf springs and pan hard bar Frame definitely has to be plated on inside Cross member under rear of motor for strut rods leaving room for starter
as thin as that frame is, it will taco and bend not to mention won’t be able to control it
Ain't no way its gonna work the way they are thinking. Put the body on or build a custom chassis with four link and cage and quit wasting your time.
@@luckyleming334 gonna twist that body into a pretzel just starting it wish them the best but ya once he gets motor where he wants it body has to come off
@@bakodon yip gonna be scetchy at this point hopefully Nate don't jimmy rig it
Hey Chad, Jolene, Doug, & Fina! Moving forward everyday little by little sometimes quickly and sometimes slowly! Chad it sucks to have to cut new flooring out but, that's life for you. When you put the floor in you had no idea that you were going to end up with that much engine! You will really have to reinforce that frame or it will twist like a pretzel! Doug nice job tackling all the cutting and getting rid of Chad's nemesis Mr. Grinder, he has hated that grinder since the day they bought it! Jolene great work as always, you are Queen of the camera and production! Fina the shop forman was keeping a careful eye on Chad and Doug!
Gonna need to beef up the frame for torque, also the rear end will need upgrade.
This has to be the most insane thing I've ever seen..Just pull the body and install the engine and Trans and cut the body to fit but please make the frame strong..You are going to twist that frame the way it is now
X frame says twist me, from the get go!
Damn. You guys are frigging scary as hell with them 4 inch grinders. Oh my my
yes go back in your bubble now
Put the engine , in its proper place in the frame .
It don't have a proper place, car never had a 460 in it.
Hi Chad. Love the work. The old x frame cars never handle well. It’s always better when going with more horsepower to use a more modern full frame. The x frame cars will twist the frame. Just a suggestion. You could run two rails from front to back on both sides. Just easier to find an old car or truck with a full frame. Use an old crown Vic cop car would give you a great suspension system. Thanks for the video Jolene.
Cut everything you need to get it to fit and then worry about building around the engine. You'll have to reinforce the frame anyway. Your not saving anytime by chippy away at it.
Amen and well said 😊🙏🏼
I agree !!
Does anyone ever use a creeper in the shop ? All that crawling around on cold concrete is not for me.
I’m with you 😊🙏🏼
It's in floor heat so no cold concrete
Would you like a heated floor 🤔
Creepers would surely help ,i dont think they own one
They also would love a lift to pick that prodject up so they could walk under it ...old before their time ...
You are reinventing the wheel. The radius rods should be split and moved to the outside fame rails. You can then eliminate the x frame and design new crossmembers to support transmission.
Bill you cant cook a hamburger never mind build a car shut up
suggestion: as I watched the filming yesterday, You could see the large area inside the back half of the fenders which are attached to the cab. Looking inside there I imagined a shelf with the battery stored inside. A bit of reinforcement to hold the battery in place and on the driver's side, the fuse box and voltage regulator mounted against the cab or a false wall. The way you cut the fender in two gives access to install many items where access would be minimal and not on the firewall (which is almost consumed by the engine install). Use your artistic brain Chad to lay it out and make the best of a new situation.
Keep cutting 😮
Most professionals build the chassis complete then fit the body to the chassis but everyone does it differently I still like watching keep up the great work 👍🏻
I am watching you cut out all the strength of the x frame. What you have left has about the strength of a piece of your coat hanger solution. Put some thought into what you are doing.
You will make it fit Chad 👍 Go for it Team Hiltz 👁🐅👌
Greetings to Chad and Jolene and the Gang! I love watching all of you one reason is because you do so many things old school and you are a genius at metal fabrication. Sometimes I want to just get up there and work at your shop and help you... I know you're trying to make this car like the Hot Wheels car.... but maybe that car had a small block or just a big block with a tunnel Ram manifold and the air scoop on top. That big block with that big type of blower could easily set near where it should in the front fabricate the scoop to set back near the windshield like a toy. With all that cutting on the frame I would definitely box it and strengthen it. Not trying to be critical, just helpful. I know this car is going to turn out awesome just like the rest of your projects.
I have too agree at this point a custom frame is the answer plus it will be able to handle the power of that motor it's a big chance your taking with that chopped up frame it's your life at this point going straight down the track that power has to go somewhere but all in all I like the teamwork going on here sometimes a couple steps back are needed to go forward I outstanding footage Jolene!
Plate the frame, hell back in the days they did that. Nothing to it, but to do it.
Patience, it will work!
My question is how do you plan on reinforce the frame?
why
Exhaust pipe
By slicing double strength square tubing gusseting and trussfitting to the old frame with fishplates and so forth, not a big deal really
zip ties, coat hangers and duck tape.
Bad Chad flexible chrome will stiffen it up
He hated that grinder from day one!
Chain the back of the car to a truck, the front of the car to a power-poll, heat both frame rails cherry red, and let the trucks clutch out and stretch the frame... it works every time. 🤣 Team Chad will get it sorted out, I have no doubts about it.
Jolene, well the chickens have come home to roost! No apologies for being correct but we won't mention that to the boys! I'm sure they'll stuff it in somehow but your intuition was spot on. Don't tell them I said so! Cheers to the best videographer on You Tube!
what about the structure and all that horse power? maybe explain how you will get all that integrity back. worth explaining.
All motors will fit. Where there's a will, there's a way. I have confidence in you Chad.
Nothing like putting the cart before the horse!
no this is a blown 460 before the car. get your mind right son
I think you just cut whole x brace out, you won’t be able to service transmission filter, can’t remove the pan.
why
@@user-wf6es1gx8j automatic transmission has a filter inside the pan on very bottom
budget build is what it is and if people don't like it well they don't have to they can move on . love the backyard builds love it no bulshit straight up it's life people make mistakes and then you fix them .. love your work Chad love it. 🇭🇲🤙
I wonder if I can get a weld flash through the screen watching you weld? 😎
I am quite sure you may need to change to a shallow oil pan . That deep pan will probably not allow the engine to squat as low as you need and to have acceptable clearance . Should be aftermarket pan’s without making your own custom pan . Nice episode guys and Jolene !
Your getting there! little by little bit by bit. If you had a set of torches you would've been done by now! you should invest in a set of torches. Chad.
what would torches do? he has a well 2 plasma cutters.
If you need room for the oil filter , a 300 6 in a ford van has a oil filter adapter that turns the filter in line with motor instead of sticking straight out you can turn down back or forward get the fitting out of the block and the gasket that's with it
It’s Happy 😃 Monday Bad Chad Nation.
HEY FELLOW BIG HEAD BUDDY
I would've done the same thing with that Milwaukee grinder, I'm honestly surprised you didn't do that a long time ago lol, but i get it, money is money, keep chugging along it's looking fabulous!!!!
Next clearance problem will be steering column
i can see it now , sitting along side the 2 story truck.
Why?

What’s the matter with the plasma cutter?? It would be quieter on the show and on your guys

From what I understand they will be reinforcing the frame once they make the engine fit plus tying everything together with a roll cage which if done properly will reinforce and stiffen up the frame. Trick is mounting cage to the frame and not just the floor like a lot of people do.
Remember room for the starter and headers...
who needs them
Great episode, So glad you did that to that grinder. 👏 With the oil filter is there a way you can run a remote one. So thanks for sharing ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
Don’t give up on putting this big block in . Heaps of old cars have small blocks because they’re easy. This car will be very special with this motor. U will get it.
Chad...dude..what is your plan if and when you need to do work on the trans valve body, or just a pan gasket, filter and fluid change somewhere down the road?...
Thanks for the laughs today
Your first idea yesterday about cutting the floor was obviously correct. It is one big engine that's for sure. Next big hurdle is the motor mounts. It is one beautiful engine but oh the weight. Nothing ever comes easy. Good Luck.
You build cars from the ground up, not the top down, he has no idea what he' doing but these are the best videos of comedy car building on KZhead
You should check out Low-Buck Garage.
Chad must be feeling a little gun shy after Nate blasted him yesterday then tricked him into the danger zone. I just had to laugh when Chad asked Doug if he farted. Lots going on with the frame there. It's going to take a lot of boxing in to strengthen it back up to handle that big motor especially since it will be sitting mostly on the compromised frame. I'm sure you guys will work it out and it's going to be a bad ass ride.
I'm surprised that grinder didn't get thrown out long before now lol😂 been there done that with a couple myself
Watching from Philippines great build my friend
Even boxing in this frame, it's going to be so weak. It's going to twist and flex to the extreme. I think a tube chassis or truck chassis would be the safest way to go. That's just my opinion.
I would be sure and make the tunnel removable with a fit like that, in case it ever has to come out. The top bolts would be hell if it were welded in
Good golly! Reinstall the frt. seats 12-18" to the rear....with the engine setting under the dash the current steer box won't do.....he's modifying based on a toy....with engine/trans. I would guess hasn't run in 20 +/- yrs....cut the X out and replace with typical cross members for support....if "failure" is entertaining potentially you have that here....sorry but I've been around these kind of builds for 50 yrs. and its tuff watching....with Chad's welding skills it would've been entertaining to watch him build a frame/chassis to match his toy car idea.
Hello from Wyo
Cutting the wishbone to split wishbones and cutting the front center section of frame out refabing a crossmember that fits would be best in my opinion. Looking good chad!
Chad if cut rails on both sides of the frame where Nathan cut and then cut the wishbone cross member out add trailing arms to the axle to the frame and get the x member out of way box in the frame it will look better and it's stronger
I was looking at the hot wheels car and if you turn it over and look at the bottom of the car you will see that the motor is not back where he is putting it the scoop on the hood is back not the motor
Feel like if you found a rear sump oil pan or if you could turn that pan around you could get more clearance and you don’t have to put the motor back so far
I admire your persistence!, this is what I want and this is what its going to be no matter how much work it takes, thats what seperates peoplle like you Chad from everyone else!
Doug certainly ain't the sharpest file in the toolbox, I'd be worried Chad 😮
Come on guys they said several shows back that they were using a different rear end with a 4 link. Chad did say that he wanted to use this rear end but he wanted to use it on something else. Chad doesn't waste anything or throw anything away. Damn
Need a larger cutout.
Would have been easier to build the car and frame around the motor? 😮
Remember they did not have that engine when back when he was chopping the roof. I know a guy that has a 427 big block Chevy in a early MG. Point is, Chad will do his thing and it will be alot of fun and toast the meats.
I'm am really into this build. It'll get there, the motor that is.... And today's bonus of the great grinder smash of 2024 was absolutely the bomb. I showed my wife that I'm not the only one, lol....
They make Frontend Motorplates to replace motor mounts and make one for the Transmission to if U don't move it back to far and just get a Rack Pinion Steering.
Hi all from Trois-Rivieres Quebec
Going to be interesting when they go to hook that to the rear-end and the Trans up that high..can you see the tilt degrees on that..
Quite the entertainment today Doug! 👍 I've chased a few grinders around the shop. 😂😂
I would have managed the wheel base then started looking for a full frame auto or made a full frame and i would've put a Ford 9". My opinion is That frame and rear end that's in that car now will not last with the PH that engine that is going to be put in the car.
Going to need som new support for a frame. The engine back that far will need some strong mounts. Glad to see Chad getting a tank made.
What a great assets Doug & Nate are. Now Jolene what grinder will you get next? 😉
I suspected that sooner or later that grinder would end up in the garbage can. 😅 That motor is quite bulky but I'm sure you will be able to place it. 👍 Keep it up guys!
😮
I don’t understand the need to have the motor back so far. Hot wheels cars didn’t have to drive, lol. I would have left the pointed peak on the cal and the cal Vent door. And just installed the motor as close to that as possible without cutting everything out. Would have the same look as the hot wheels and function better
Nice work again today Doug . Thanks as always chad n Jolene for the Dailey content
shouldn't the gas tank have some kinsa anit slosh bafling inside of it?
Yes gas tanks should have baffling or fuel cell foam to prevent sloshing but since this car is not going to be driven far from home it will not be necessary.
Enjoyed watching you all work, will be back tomorrow📺🌴
Cut. Out. The x split the wish bone ,box frame, add a new crossmember. Change the rear end ,install parallel springs!,
Tilt the rear transmission downward and it'll probably go in you got to get that transmission rear end down below the floor going in that hole were the drive shafts at top of the Transmissions to wide until you tilt it down in the back and it'll go in keep cutting that frame and you're going to have to put a new frame underneath of it
dang I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to get upset at a tool . I took an 18lb sledge hammer to a 1/2 drive impact .
They better be careful… the frame is going to fold like a ‘Taco’… lol
Great build , enjoyable
Sign of a good shop, one guy has day off, and another returns, and it flows as if nothings changed. Sign of a happy shop.
Stick some rags in it and then I was going to say something about drop the motor in where it goes get it down where it belongs but you’ve gone this far, at least support the farm across with something so it do t twist… but you’ll get it ya always do no matter how awkward your process may be.
