It's not even really that it's a bad monster movie per se, it's a pretty standard Emmerich disaster film, it's just not Godzilla. The show slaps though so at least we got that out of it.

    • The octopus silhouette for Rodan may be a separate reference to the American posters for Godzilla Vs Mothra, giving it the name of Godzilla Vs The Thing, where they intentionally obscured what her actual appearance to draw further mystery of what Godzilla was going to fight; or they just didn't want to reveal that Godzilla was fighting a giant cuddly moth. And what little they had shown for Mothra/The Thing made her out to be a more like a giant octopus like monster much the silhouette for Rodan.

Kaiju fan films like this are more thematically satisfying than most of the actual kaiju movies because they actually take the time to flesh out both the kaiju and the world they live in. In fact, I actually look forward to seeing the MonsterVerse fan films more than the actual MonsterVerse movies anymore because the fans do a much better job at characterizing the monsters, developing the world, and actually deliver on what people want to see from those movies.

Godzilla's first attack on the city really similar to old techniques used in those films, such as Koichi Kawakita's Composite shots used in the Heisei Godzilla films. If the Legendary Godzilla films looked like Godzilla's first city scene here, they would be considered some of the best kaiju films.

  • As someone who grew up watching "Fantastic Dinosaurs of the Movies!" and was my first exposure to many giant monster films, the 1950's presentation, music usage and the reconstruction of the trailer footage but for a real kaiju setting hits such a nostalgic beat for me this thing hits a special place in my heart. The weaving and world building on display here and the foreshadowing of all the other things out there is excellent and is one of the most compelling and well realized fan-godzilla projects I have seen in a looooong time. I haven't been this invested in a fan-project for Godzilla since way back when Matt Frank was doing Godzilla Neo on dA back in the dark-ages of the Godzilla fandom, lol. All in all, this is peak kaiju media and a pinnacle for what fan-works in this fandom should be.
