  • For anyone who might wonder why old comb like this is preferred over newer comb, it's because brood comb will shrink over item, eventually to the point where larvae won't be able to pupate into adult bees. Recycling old brood comb for wax prevents this, as can moving it to a higher place in the hive, where it will be used for honey storage instead of brood.

  • I respect beekeepers a lot. I freak out when a bee is anywhere near me so i acn't imagine having to work near them (Edit) After thinking about it for a while, i decided to tell you what i think caused my fear of bees. When i was around 4 years old, i visited my grandparents in romania. I was playing in their backyard when i discoverd a "mouse" hole. I stuck some berries in the hole since i wanted to feed the mouse. As it turns out, it was a wasp hole. The wasps stung me a few times but i managed to escape into the house. So the event that caused my fear in bees (or rather bee like insects) were wasps. Ps. If anything here seemed poorly written/has typos, english is my second language. Pps. I wont change "acn't"

  • If you're scared of bees, just remember they are curious creatures and will not harm you if you don't give them a reason to. I learned this after working on my cars for years and bees just sitting there watching me. They never got close, they never bothered, any time I walked towards them to grab a tool, they'd move out of the way and go right back when I was done. I know they aren't super smart, but part of me feels like they're more connected than we think. Edit: guess I started a lil war about what kind of bees. It should be assumed the bees are honey bees as they are the most common around homes. It should also be assumed I live in an area with bees that aren't aggressive, as I literally said that💀 people can infer, y'all

  • Ran 300 hives ( 300 pallets - 5 hives per layer 3-4 layers high on a pallet) Have to use 4 flat beds and an offroad swinger forklift to move all around for the different flowering seasons to make honey year round. We harvest ~200k in honey a season. And another 75k to lease them to the almond farms for pollenation during november - jan * we ship em off on a semi truck and usually another 20k in wax anually. We started that 10 years ago in fargo GA. We did splits over time and were probably up to 700 pallets now if not more. We even jar up the pollen bulbs to sell to the vitamin market bringing in another 20-30k. Its 15 hour days and Hard AF work but if you got stake in it it pays good. Avg wholesale price of honey is 3.50 a pound maybe more depending on if its orange blossom( florida) brazillian pepper flower( okeechobee fl), Tupelo ( suwannee GA) or clover ( all over farm land usa). Wildflower in SD) but avg honey comes from gallberry season ( GA). NOTHING GOES TO WASTE. MY love hate relationship with the heating vat and hydralic filter press pump ( 12 plates with paper filters that look like piddle pads with tunnels to pump honey through), frame resets, and the giant spinners ( imagine a giant washing machine on spin cycle) is a drum with slats to put full frames on and then they spin slinging the honey on the walls of the drum and down a tube at the bottom into totes...ugh sticky ass work. And oh you WILL GET STUNG....A LOT. I got so used to it though i started jist wearing a mask and gloves. Plus the queens get used to your pheremonea and after a while they arenr as aggressive to you. Its still inevitable especially when stacking hives to move location. I bought some stake in hives and got out of the business letting my brother in law who runs the whole thing run the whole thing and i just get a percentage of profit of the hives i bought and dont have to get my hands dirty like that any more. I like seeing a several grand get deposited every other month. Its a worthy investment. It was a fun adventure. Griffis honey farms Fargo GA.

    • @@mattvan5100understandable point. But bee farmers who farm the bees for their honey don’t want to kill the bees. The bees is how they produce their products, and they’re domesticated. I have a friend who farms honey bees for a living and the bees live a pretty relaxed life for the most part actually. He brings them syrup and sugar to feed them as a supplement for taking their sweet honey. The bees aren’t getting harmed, and they don’t have to worry about going into the wild and finding food. They just chill all day and make honey with the food he would bring them. They both had an understanding of each other. He got to a point where he didn’t even need to wear a protective suit because the bees understood that if they keep making him honey, he will keep bringing them easy meals. The real thing that’s harming wild bees is humans destroying their environment, not selling and buying honey.

    • @@rocyeoffline1581 yeah yeah ok whatever but im just saying that its a moot point to suggest to "save the bees" by refusing to engage in the exploitation, as you understand it, of the bees that do not need saving. "save the bees" is a slogan that is usually applied to the ecological conservation of pollinators, and honeybees can actually be detrimental to native pollinators.

  • Life long motorcycle rider here, and in 35 years of biking, I've had bees in my helmet only twice. The first time I was in town, and able to stop quickly enough to whip off the helmet and avoid getting stung. The second time was on an interstate, doing about 80, and that bee was PISSED, just about the time I heard the buzzing around my ear, the little booger got me right in the earlobe. Damn that hurt. I did pull off to empty his corpse onto the shoulder. A bee sting is interesting. After about 2 minutes of excruciating pain, my ear started going numb. The numbness traveled across the back side of my face and to my neck. After about 10 minutes, it no longer hurt at all, but instead, again starting at the earlobe and traveling to face and neck, it actually started feeling pleasurable, almost like I was having an ear-gasm! After half an hour, normalcy was returning, but backwards from how it started up. The pleasure turned to numbness, and that changed into ordinary, no sensation. By the time I got to the motel that night, the whole episode was just a memory that I never imagined I'd be sharing in a Comments section under a KZhead video about beeswax candles! 😂 May the Holy Lord on High protect and guide you!

Their DNA is coded to keep growing and constantly "Swarming" (where a new colony basically breaks off from the original one). When you take most of the resources out (by weight) then they stop producing queen cells. Which in turn means less population and far fewer swarms. Nothing in nature would work as hard as bee's do if they were going to just stockpile and let it waste! They are efficient and plan to use everything that they produce.

    • Do you own any land my friend question mark if you do I would research what local native bees you have, in Google how to create some artificial habitats, or what type of plants to plant for them.. You could set up a couple bee style bird houses, and have somebody native bees in your land... They are the ones who really really need the environmental aid, honeybees are not in trouble We're not In as much trouble

    • Taking the wax forces the bees to make new wax, which is healthier for them since old wax absorbs pollutants. Also, it's bee sweat, they produce it constantly. They will make more. Regarding what percentage to take, that depends on the health of the hive, but they can build comb much faster than you think.

  • As a dog lover I know a dog is healthy when it's ears smell like beeswax. Even my boyfriend's ears smell like beeswax.😂
