As many of you have rightly pointed out, Earthbound is NOT in fact available through Nintendo Switch Online. The party responsible for this error (Admiral Beans) has been reprimanded accordingly. Sorry for the confusion.
There is still hope for the people, Earthbound is available on the the New 3ds and Wii U. You can even buy Earthbound beginnings on the Wii U. People really must love Earthbound. Great video you should do a top 21 part 2.
Buy a snes mini bro!!!
Hopefully one day this comment will be outdated.
i got chrono trigger on my snes mini along with tmnt and a few other games added for somewhere between 50 - 60 games total
Honestly fighting games were very popular at the time, I can't even think of the Super Nintendo without thinking of Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3, and Killer Instinct, those games were basically Grand Theft Auto and Call Of Duty at the time, everyone was playing them, and everyone loved them. It is also a sin that Mario Kart was chosen over F-Zero, F-Zero is absolutely essential, even more than Earthbound, no one cared about Earthbound at the time, stuff like ActRaiser, and even Gradius III with its slowdowns, are much more important than Earthbound, heck NBA Jam T.E. and International Superstar Soccer are more important than Earthbound. I also would avoid All-Stars entirely, the originals are much better games than those remakes, I would rather see something like R-Type III, U.N. Squadron, Axelay, or Space Megaforce instead. Of course you need your Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Street Fighter II, A Link To the Past, Mega Man X, Kirby Super Star, Contra III, Yoshi's Island, Super Castlevania IV, and Donkey Kong Country, that goes without saying. Then for RPGs definitely Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI/III, Secret Of Mana, Illusion Of Gaia, the Breath Of Fire games, and Legend Of The Seven Stars, all massively popular because they were good. The Super Nintendo had a lot of good games in general like the Final Fight games, Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts, Tetris Attack, Hagane, Run Saber, Skyblazer, Imperium, Aero Fighters, HyperZone, Prince Of Percia, Sunset Riders, Sparkster, Ninja Warriors, Wild Guns, Harvest Moon, etc., it is hard to make a solid list. Many of the licensed games were fun as well, and there was a lot of those, Animaniacs, Aladdin, X-Men, The Avengers, Batman, Power Rangers, Alien, Predator, Looney Toons, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, RoboCop, The Terminator, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, but yeah, Turtles In Time would be the one to choose there. Then there is the middle ground stuff too like Battletoads & Double Dragon, the rushing beat series, Total Carnage, Smash TV, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Ghoul Patrol, Big Sky Trooper, Cybernator, Demon's Crest, Captain Commando, Knights Of The Round, The King Of Dragons, Magic Sword, Metal Warriors, etc..

Super Metroid is one of my all-time favorites and clearly and easily my #1 game for the SNES. I played it as a kid, and I still play it quite often (Mostly randomizer runs nowadays.)
I agree. All games in this list are beyond classics, but Super Metroid is just in a league of its own because of the game itself, what it means to the speed running community, and of course the ROM hacks.
Yeah I remember playing super Mario world because it actually was packaged with my SNES. I ended up playing that game for months beating it and then going back and getting the missing keys so I can go to the bonus stages etc. it’s truly a master piece
Indeed, it's a great game. Even today it's absolute worth to play and better than the majority of all the "modern" games imo!

just finished chrono trigger and it's insane. an open world map with different timezones and no "quest markers" you actually have to use your brain and talk to people (or use google sometimes ^^). and the characters are all so well done. most of these type of games i find boring but this one was done in a week and i actually shed a tear towards the end. oh and how can i forget the cutscenes, like wtf :O

The SNES era was Disney’s golden age of video games. You kept saying these were YOUR favorites and in YOUR opinion. You never spoke matter-of-factly as if it's etched in stone that something is the best PERIOD like literally every other copy and paste video list does. So I wanna thank you for that. It doesn't even matter what games you put out. Just saying these were YOUR personal favorites is what makes this list the best if not one of them. Thumbs up, dude.

I personally would have put super metroid as #1...that game had EVERYTHING..good story, graphics, atmosphere..challenging without being too hard...
Loved Super Mario World and Donkey Kong 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. However, the greatest RPG on the SNES was hands down, Tales of Phantasia. That game was way ahead of its time and it was unmatched in terms of graphics and gameplay. The only drawback was that the game was never available in English, however, it was later translated and available for download.
Chrono Trigger is better.
Hard agree with Tales of Phantasia!
I honestly really wasn’t a fan of it. The battle system was weird and not particularly fun and the story was kinda crap as well.
The SNES library is awesome. Many excellent games that are now considered cold classics.
Nothing has came anywhere close since.
It's that Nintendo Orchestra music and mode 7
@Tom Ffrench not remotely close
Note: The versions of Street Fighter 2 on the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection are the arcade ROMs, not the SNES ports.
The SNES was my console. I could only get one in my 20's in the early 2000's, but I thoroughly enjoyed every second of every games In played. I was into more obscure games though like New Horizons, Sid Meier's civilization, Secret of Evermore.
A great list and very well presented! My additions: Starwing/Starfox, Batman Returns, F-Zero, Another World, Mechwarrior, R-Type, Bomberman. They might not stand up today but they're ones I have fond memories of.
yes!!
Great titles!
Why don't they stand up today? There's far more enjoyment to be had in retro games in my opinion. Much of today's games rely on photo-realistic, movie-esque visuals and audio, and obsession with online play and features, rather than what made games so good in the first place i.e. the gameplay. Do you reckon today's titles will still have the same nostalgic appreciation and love in thirty years that classic NES, MS, SNES, Mega Drive, Saturn and N64 ones do? Methinks not.
@@Nightopian1982 you’re completely right. It’s just sometimes your memory of a game, and experiencing it as a child is often better than the reality of playing it again when you’re older.

It's incredible how objectively the best game on the system was the pack-in game. You'll never see that ever again.
Well, switch has Breath of the wild. Only future will tell if there comes a better game, but it would still be one of the best games on the switch. ... What do you mean it is not a pack-inn game? Everybody who bought a switch at launch got it, that makes it a pack-inn!
@@Tyrisalthan Breath of the Wild is a launch game. Super Mario World was literally packed in with the SNES similar to how Wii Sports was bundled with the Wii.
There's no such thing as the "objectively best game". I love SMW, but I would personally rank several games ahead of it.
@@felixronkainen8880 There is an almost universal agreement that SMW is one of the best SNES games. Is it going to apply for everyone, no, but the majority agree it is one of the best. So, it can objectively be the best SNES game. I'm not saying it is, but you cannot deny it being up there as one of the greats.
@@MilkWasABadChoice17 Sure, but something can only be objectively true if it's a literal fact. Even if many people have a common opinion on something, it's still an opinion, not a fact. I hadn’t beaten Zelda until early 2020, but almost many times. One of my favorites, as many of these others are too. You can find almost all of their roms online for SNES emulators too.
The best way to play Chrono Trigger is by playing the DS version of it. @@sebastianhurst958 The Android/IOS/PC versions have graphical "improvements" that actually look worse than the original graphics, whereas the DS version graphics are as faithful to the SNES original as possible. The Android version also AFAIK has a nasty DRM that requires you to be online to play it. Which is the reason I stopped purchasing anything made by Square for mobile devices; I got hit with it on one of the Final Fantasy remakes, which prevented me from playing the game I legally purchased in the places I expected (where I didn't have mobile Internet), so I gave up on anything mobile made by Square. I'd have personally had Zelda a Link to the Past as number one, followed by Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Super Mario World, but it's a great list. I've never fallen out of love with the SNES and Mega Drive, but I'm really getting back into them again. It sounds odd, but I'm actually kind of glad I've never got into modern machines. Yoshi's island is the first game I remember ever playing and it’s kept a special place in my heart. I’m kind of surprised Kirby Super Star did not make the list, the coop alone in that game always kept it at hand. Great video!
Oh by the way, when you were talking about Chrono Trigger, you completely forgot to bring up one of the game's best things, it's soundtrack. It has literally one of the best video game soundtracks of all time without question! It's a big part of what makes the game so engaging & emotional as the soundtrack just sucks you in & makes you feel emotions you never thought a video game could make you feel back then!
The SNES Controller + Library are one of the greatest things in videogame history! Sadly, games were soooo expensive, no internet or cellphones, that promoting these things were sooo difficult & expensive that many masterpieces didn't get any hype, until the 2010's where game collecting became mainstream.

@@sonhadorpr Because the SNES Mini is legal and emulator isn't. The mini was great value at retail price. And you get a tiny cute version of the original console as an extra perk. :)
Wow I’m super surprised to see that Terranigma made the list!! My favorite game of all time. If you haven’t played it then you need to ASAP. The music, the story, the gameplay.. its 10X better than ALTTP imo.
It really is an amazing game.
Don’t feel bad. I didn’t beat a link to the past until like 5 years ago. The entire time I was blown away and charmed and once I beat it I left feeling so grateful. 100% holds up as a legendary title even today. It’s a crime that there’s no way to play Chrono trigger on modern hardware or even easily play it.
Final Fantasy II is my all time favorite game. SNES version holds a special place with me but I enjoy all the other versions.
I was 7 when it came out and held my hands like cecil, rosa and rydia at family meal during prayer
I'm so happy Super Mario World was No. 1. It's literally my favourite game ever, and I would die of happiness if it got an HD remake in the Kotabe style, or even the NSMB style.
@@twincherries6698 Glad to hear it, what is it that you love about it? You should message me on Instagram if you want, I'm called YoshiDude1991.
I love that there’s so much love for SMW here. I really couldn’t agree more and is defo in my top 5 games of all time. If you haven’t (which I’m sure you already have) please try SM Maker 2, it has so many nods to SMW in the campaign that it feels like a sequel / outtakes or something, you’ll love to.
The SNES was my first ever video game console. My dad got it for us for Christmas, along with Disney’s Aladdin, Top Gear, and Tetris Attack (Yoshi Island Edition). And later I got Super Mario All Stars. An old childhood friend would sometimes let me borrow Mega Man X2 and Batman Forever or we would play Bomberman together.
To put in perspective just how amazing this console was...the top 5 games listed for this console in this video are all argued on lists for top 5 games of all-time on any system of any generation. SNES is and always will be my favorite console, the game library is truly legendary.
I fondly remember Ridley’s theme playing in background throughout my play-through both Chrono Trigger and Link to the Past too!
I love how Theme of Simon gets a super extended play. It's that good!
So many hidden gems on this list of snesss games. I've not heard of most of these or bought them multiple times throughout the years. I'm fixxin to see if dez are on switch to play with my husband's son. Great bideo. Make more.
Super Mario World would have to be my favourite game of all time.. I've had other favourites, like Minecraft and No Man's Sky, but there were many points in time where I hated those games and I proclaimed it.. but I've never hated SMW. frustrated yes, but I've always come back to it and loved it. Now surprisingly enough, Super Mario Wonder is looking like it may actually surpass that. I just hope there's some more variety that they're not showing us.
super castlevania 4 needs more love! can't believe it's only 14!
Seriously! Even TMNT beat it....
Maybe High Difficulty Biased. Super Contra 3 was damn Good for about 3 levels... Then it's unplayable
That's his opinion, I brought Castlenania 4 back in the day. That and Super Double Dragon, played in the 90s all the time.
I agree. My 2nd favorite SNES game behind SMW.
@@mhans311 what about Super Metroid? Chrono Trigger? Mario RPG? Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2, ActRaiser, Mario All Stars?
Terranigma getting some love made my day ❣️ the very best RPG story by a million miles. Incredibly emotional soundtrack. Masterpiece! Nintendo please give this a re-release. People need to experience this.
i am currently emulating it
@@cosmo_4785 fantastic! I hope you’re enjoying the story
@@jamus9_games967 i am really enjoying i just completed the second tower
Our Super Nintendo System in America looks WAAYYYY different that that console he held up.
Thank you for such enthusiastic reviews. I felt like looking for many of them. I was 16 when the SNES came out and was getting more into parties and meeting girls than into video games. Still, I loved Mario Kart, Street fighter and a few others. But never knew about Contra, Mega Man or even the remastered Marios. I've never been able to get involved with RPGs. I like quick-to-play games like Punch out, Mario, Mario Kart where you are in the middle of the action within the first 10 seconds after you turn the console on. Cheers!
Heard "hello there lovely people! " After a long time...
After one week
Yup 😂
*peephole
Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy 6 consumed a ton of my life. Then of course Mario World, LttP, Super Metroid and DKC are super classics. Man the SNES was gold.
IS!!!! The SNES IS gold...
Lol
Mario kart, DK country, Turtles in time and SMW are among my absolute favorites from my childhood, gonna look to buy them all again, I own SMW as my only game for the SNES rn, which games would you think that I should buy, or atleast recommend? Im guessing anything from this video, maybe a Bomberman game? I remember playing a bomberman game on snes as a child, but cant remember which one, any idea which it might be, or whats the best one?
I am surprised by the lack of love for Sim City. I know I am not the only one who sunk a lot of hours into that game.
The issue with the Snes is there are so many great games on the system that you could have a best 100 list and all the games on it would deserve to be in the top 10.
James Rolfe said recently in one of his AVGN episodes that the NES honestly has a lot of garbage on the system. That's what's so great about the SNES. It doesn't have nearly as much shitware like the OG Nintendo does, and a far larger percentage of its library is still serviceable/playable at a minimum, with a huge chunk of the games being memorable or even iconic. My favorite console ever.
Fair comment!
Ugh, Square Enix needs to release a Collection of Final Fantasy I-VI on Switch like yesterday, that, Super Mario RPG & Chrono Trigger on NSO
I agree with you 100%!
I would love if they showed the ogre battle series and final fantasy tactics some love as well.
I don't know if they would do that, they make good money money off those games individually. They got all the titles on the psn in some form of fashion, they make more money with them separate. I got a couple games on my psn account, my son has all on his, I'm not a fan of 8 and 9.
I've been wanting this even before FFVII- XII came to Switch. I also want Dragon Quest IV- IX.
They already did this 20 years ago.
Mario RPG, Final Fantasy 6, Secret of Mana, Tales of Phantasia, Chrono Trigger, Ogre Battle.
The Japan-only release of Sailor Moon: Another Story - a JRPG - deserves a mention, it has been fan-translated into British English in 2007/2008 and has been re-translated into American English in 2019 - the game plays like Final Fantasy VI but is based on the Sailor Moon anime with a unique story, you get to control a huge party with at least five characters in any battle, and including not only the main Sailor Senshi but the five other ones as well - Sailor Pluto, Sailor Saturn, Chibi USA, Sailor Cosmos and Sailor Neptune, in addition to Sailor Moon, Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Venus and sailor Jupiter - the villains includes all the TV-show villains as time is upset and past events undone, but the true villains are completely new including Shaman Apsu and her gang of Oppositio Sailor Senshi - Sin, Nergal, Marduk, Nardu and a fifth one. The music is awesome, the battles are fun, the story is great. And no, I'm not really into Sailor Moon - I did give the game a try as an 18-year-old because I liked the first Season of the anime as a kid. The only season that aired in my country. The game didn't release in the West.
