I think the coolest part of these events is the help received by other cannonballers. Arnie in the S6 helping them through Illinois is such a cool thing.
The AMG got wrecked spotting for me, was happy to see this
He's trying to help people beat his own record. What a stand-up guy
Part of doing what you love, is helping others that have the love, love it too.
I am sad that at this point in my life I have never had the opportunity to cannonball but I am happy to say I have gotten across my own state averaging over 140 mph. South to north and west to east I5 I90... I blew up a car before I finally suceeded cuz if I cant average 110 across US why not much faster across my entire state?
At 4:45 that was my friend and me who were visiting New York during the spring, it was my first time in NY and I'm a huge fan of the Cannonball and just had to take a few photos of the RedBall because as you said "it's the church of speed" and then I saw you guys with the antennas and I knew what was up, I never posted the pictures anywhere, in fact, I have them on my phone which is right next to me, and when I clicked on the video, never could I have imagined I would be mentioned in a video on VINwiki, what a small world I'm shocked, for reference the time I took the photo was 11:23
That's awesome! Nik showed me the pics
Wow yeah a small world
Thats Awesome
@VINwiki
Props
The trooper hitting his lights but not coming after you is actually fairly common. At least for bikes. Happens all the time with state, county *and* municipal cops. We always figured it meant that the cop rides too and is just tellin' us to back her down a bit.
yeah sort of a "warning" without having to do any paperwork
The way I heard it he was hitting them with radar or laser.
All. The cop thinks is, aha, another donor for the hospital ...
I’ve had it happen to me. I was cruising a decent margin above the limit, but less than double, and it was the middle of the night. Cop lit up, but didn’t pursue. We kept it reason for the rest of the way and didn’t have any trouble.
I was flying on my Bike and I Trooper just Flipped his Lights on and Chirped at me and kept on going
I think I speak for the Saab community when I say this was awesome. To see a Saab put back in the limelight was amazing. Hope to see you at many more SOC's to come!
As an owner of a Saab 9-3 turbo this does a smile on my face
🙌🏻🙌🏻
Grow up in the backseat of 1950s SAAB 92 in the 1950s, this makes me very happy and a bit proud. Who would have thought SAAB would reach this kind of heights after it was killed of as a company! 👍👏😂
I agree 100%. The 9-5 is such a wonderful car and very well suited to high speed cruising
i’m gonna try and do it in a viggen 🫣
Oh hey, thats me
Hi Mark!
Oh course I know him. He's me.
A 9-5 Aero is a really good car for high speeds with a lot of comfort. I've done +200kms/h runs at night for a lot of distance, no issues at all and any stress. It just keeps pulling on 5th gear as it was 3rd.
The flat Saab Aero torque curve is sweet
I liked it so much I bought one myself after thr run
Absolutely they’re great!
Pulls like a Scania truck 😎👍
Fr they are great for top speed def didn't do 180 on the highway for 20 miles one night 😂😂😂 I was on the us Autobahn 😂😂😂
"Achievements on the dash" - That's a different way of looking at things!
The Saab can certainly blend in. It reaffirms just how impressive the run was David Diem / Doug Turner's 1983 US Express run record of 32 hours and seven minutes was. Two man team, red 1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi - almost the complete opposite of the Saab - holding the record for 20+ years.
I just want to give a shout out to the guy in the M3. The guy's got some balls to just hammer down for two states.
He was legit - but I didn’t mention how we caught him just before the Nebraska border 😉
@@nikkrueger5734 I'm just impressed that Saab can go those speeds and maintain. I assume you did a decent work over on the motor before you left.
@@nikkrueger5734 I’m surprised y’all didn’t throw in the video of you passing me. It was a humbling moment for sure. I’m honored to have had a small part in your run.
@@RogerAlan 7:45 - thanks again man - probably my favorite video from the run is your M3 at 120 with me flying by 😁
@@RogerAlan you’re insane dude, bravo.
Nice to see Saab in an episode. I loved both of my 9-5s, great cars👍
I have a OG 9-3 it’s fun but definitely not cheap
When you see a saab you click
Exactly
Absolutely!
why i am watching
Haha that 2.3 solid can't blow them apart easy 500hp stock interal
I saw “vinwiki” and clicked lol
As a fellow 9⁵ "Dame" owner, with a tune from the same tuner as this C2C2C car... I was so happy when they set this record in a 9⁵!
love the extra care involved in writing this comment with Saab correct nomenclature. Saab folks rly are a different breed 😅
I love the Cannonball stories when the entire team tells their side of the story. I enjoyed seeing Mark again as well and props to the alumni of the Fraternity of Lunatics who pitched in to help. 👍🏼 to Arne, Charlie Safari, Dan Doucet, etc You are all, *Legends❗
As an 07' 9-3 driver, this does put a smile on my face
I could watch these Cannonball stories all day!
On the bottom of my bucket list! Mind boggling!
Hey - look mom I’m on VINWiki!
Amazing that you went through an entire state behind that M3 doing 140+! It really puts into perspective how much speed you have to carry throughout the run. Very impressive!!
That is genuinely one of the craziest parts. Dude said keep up and meant it. Absolute fucking lunatics I love it so much.
Yep, don’t forget that rental mustang spent 5 hours at 159
We actually passed him near the Nebraska border - he couldn’t stay in front 😂 literally A-1 spotting though, amazing guy!
@@jvincemusic you uh … haven’t kept up on things recently have you …
@@nikkrueger5734 haha love it!!
As a Swede I think it’s really cool that you did it in a Saab, even though my dad always bought Volvos over Saabs when I was a kid (it’s a Swedish thing where everyone either drove a Saab or a Volvo). I have to admit though that a 2008 Volvo wouldn’t have been as good a cannonball car.
Clicked for the Saab hahaha
As a SAAB 9-3 Driver I really enjoyed listening to this.
Hello fellow 9-3 driver
Seeing the Saab in the thumbnail I can sure image the check engine light exiting Manhattan
Knowing that it is a GM collaboration product makes this even more likely...
I’ve driven my 06 9-5 wagon hard for 8 years, never seen the CEL, but I’m very proactive about maintenance
@@lgunderso2117 Your name sounds Swedish, I call bias... 😁 A mate has a saloon version, he is very on his maintenance and has also had very few issues. But most of them are a pain.
I had a -08 Saab 9-5 for 11 years. It was super reliable. My parents had similar positive experiences as well.
@@lgunderso2117 probably burned out while at the previous owner
Its amazing how well organised it is with multiple people helping, and how serious the runs are taken by enthusiasts nowadays, the uk will never have something this legendary.
Watching the 1st time through and not knowing their record only lasts days, is a solid punch in the gut. I feel for these guys.
The Aero versions of Saabs 9-3 and 9-5 are really superb cars. I've done long distance runs in my 9-3s, not to Cannonball level, but nevertheless - they are the best kept secret in automobiles.
Been waiting for this video forever. Was so hyped when I seen he was doing this. As a fellow 9-5 owner it really warms my heart to see people still doing cool stuff with them.
SAAB! I have a silver 2006 9-5 Aero just like this and one of the reasons why I bought it was to run a sort of "Cannonball" across Lithuania/Europe where I live.
Lots of car for 2-3k usd/eur
I was thinking about any kind of a similar rally across the Europe, what you suggest?
@@vincasvosylius6045 they’re cheap because they definitely have a oil problem My Saab 9-3 needed a completely new oil crank as the old was was ruined and leaking oil everywhere
@@Donax695 after that the radiator blew up, that was quite fun for my wallet
Is there a formal route for it? I own a 9-5 Aero and I'd love to know more
“Achievements”. Love it. 🤣
Looks like the c2c2c is what everyone is going for now. The c2c record will stand for awhile my guess. Congrats fellas.
1 way is going to be very hard to break now, short of getting them to close 80 for you.
We aren't everyone!
And when that's starting to look unattainable, people will start putting up "lap times" for I-90 (Boston to Seattle) to I-5 (Seattle to Los Angeles) to I-10 (Los Angeles to Jacksonville) to I-95 (Jacksonville back to Boston.) 10,000 miles or so and some crazy fools will figure out a way to do it in a long weekend.
@@SimuLord people already do that for fame
@@SimuLord I "allegedly" did LAX to the Canadian border in Blaine WA in 14:37 with 3 friends in a 5 cylinder Jetta with no extra fuel and one single radar detector. We were pulled over in Oregon at 110 in a 55 and the cop decided he didn't want to do the paperwork and let us off with a warning. 😂
And with automatic transmission! People should read about the saab talladega record! Full throttle like 20 days in a row with stock engines.
Pennsylvania, where the potholes are occasionally interrupted by stretches of usable road.
been with Saabs for 40+ years. My brother and I used to joke that Saabs are invisible to the Police :)
The seem to be … 😏
Are you a retired Saab mechanic/tech?
lol i lost it when he found the dead dude and dispatch was like yea don't worry about it
I grew up in Redondo Beach. Mary Davis was my aunt. I now live in Cocoa Beach Florida. After her death I drove to the Portofino from Cocoa Beach solo no countermeasures in a 2000 Ford Taurus DOCH. 32 hours and a few minuets. Bless you Aunt Mary. You where a trip.
Worlds hardest cannon run to me is the 1915 Cannonball Baker run. Took him fricking 11 days!
Yep, it was over 40 years later that Eisenhower tried bringing an Army company cross-country, to see if it could be done. To get from coast to coast in the US before the Interstate Highway system was born would have been an absolute adventure and a half...
Doing a b2b Canonball in Saab is completely insane and totally awesome. Congrats guys !
13:02 how was THAT not the video's opening line?! 😂
i delivered pizza with a guy who drove the same exact car, and when ever he talked about the car he just couldnt stop. ive always wanted one since.
A week or a decade it doesn’t matter. You had the record.
Just stopping by because I also have a 2008 Saab 9-5 Aero (wagon)! Very comfy seats you chose.
Aero or base model?
Aero :)
I also own an 08 9-5 Aero Wagon in the same Snow Silver Metallic as this Cannonball car. The seats are really really good.
I love seeing these cannonball videos!
The real deal Cannonball run with no Hollywood script
I have a 9-5 and a 2000km trip to do soon. I shouldn't have watch this. Nice to see so many Saab enthusiasts here
As a Saab enthusiast myself it is awesome to see a Saab back in the limelight. Especially a 9-5. I personally own 2 Saab 9-5's. One a silver 2002 and a 2004 black 9-5. I'd love to do this someday.
In 1986, 3 stock Saab 9000 did 100,000km in 20days at Talladega. And this 9-5 now set another record. Got to show that later Saabs under GM aren't as bad as many says, there are problems, but overall the same spirit.
Had a wonderful old racer tell us about their run in 1972 at our MG Car Club meeting. He's in his late 80s now, but could still bring up details of the trip, names, dates, speeds, like he was a kid. 3 guys in a Monte Carlo, modified with second tank, better shocks, longer gears, etc. Broke down, unfortunately. Hell of a story.
*YES* SAAB represent!
Insane run, amazing community too! Great to see it done in a Saab!
I had a 2008 Ssab 9-5 and always thought they were seriously underrated. Great car to kill long distances.
OMG I thought that was a 9-5!!! I still have my '06 9-5 Aero I've got a bunch of stuff done to over the years. I'm the second owner and have owned it since '08. This is so awesome! Saab's are stealth riders!
love cannonball stories, keep them coming!!
Did you buy this 9-5 with front passenger side damage? Because I totalled a 9-5 in the snow in New York in late 2019
Not this one - some dings on the door but that’s it - typical Brooklyn stuff
@@nikkrueger5734 well, it was totalled for suspension damage. I bumped a guardrail in the snow.
@@ArtyI not the same car then sorry. I bought mine from a lady who lived in Georgia and had moved up to NYC about a year or two prior me buying it. Hopefully yours is out there somewhere still - or helping another live on!
@@nikkrueger5734 damn. That would have been a great place for that car to have ended up. I absolutely loved it despite the 3 times it stranded me on the side of the road
That was a great story. Cool to see some Saab love too!
Saabs deserve all the love!
@@nikkrueger5734 absolutely!
@@nikkrueger5734 absolutely. On my 3rd Saab now and to think 3 years ago I had never even been in one. 2 9-5's and a 9-3 convertible that I later sold. Great cars and very comfortable. Still have both my 02 silver 9-5 Linear (Aero clone) and my 05 black 9-5 ARC
"Achievement lights."
I have been waiting for this story. Awesome to hear about it and congratulations again!
I was once given a car by a mate as it was near on the verge of being a parts car, it was near the same as my car, and he kept getting mistakenly pulled over as they thought he was someone else who had been seen driving a touch on the fast side... We were the only two people in the area in white B3 Passat Estates. He didn't seem to make that connection...
😂😂😂
I'd like to see another attempt at the Diesel record, but this time accounting for the need to supply air at high altitude.
The diesel record is going to be a tough one. Only car that could reasonably do better than the Passat would be an A6 3.0TDI. The top speed and fuel efficiency just isn't there on the 2.0TDI cars when you try to go flat out.
@@s2upid for speed I'd consider going compound turbos to ensure your getting enough air at all operating altitudes, if I recall the VW was struggling to make power in the mountains.
I love the i80 drive. I took a similar drive this summer from Pittsburgh but got off i80 in Salt Lake City and went south into Utah and AZ. Love the stories from you guys. And those PA potholes are no joke, I've lived here most of my life, our roads do indeed suck.
I don’t think anyone ever has referred warning lights as achievement lights😂. To true sign of Fraternity of Lunatics.
Ran into Nik a couple of weeks ago, super cool guy! Awesome to hear the full story!
👋👋👋
What a great episode! Brings back memories, my dad used to drive a 9-5 of the same generation and model, although not the same color! The sluggishness sounds like the SAAB safe mode that it goes down into when it detects some faults. Makes it *incredibly* slow and the turbo won't boost almost at all.
In 2002, we ran a mistake turbo from orange County to Rochester New York for the start of the one lap. That took us 33 hours 46 minutes. The end comment on this video is so accurate. ..... you do it for personal satisfaction, nothing else. Best of luck to all the others out there. Stay safe
My adrenaline goes up when I’m listening to these cannonball stories.
Awesome to see it done in a Saab, I had a 2007 Saab 9-3, put 60,000km on it and it was so fun to own
What a Saab story that is.
Someday, I’m going to make this run!!
Bruh, we need to team up
I'm just waiting for another pandemic so people can go back inside to try >_>
@@CrackedCandy Any idea of a vehicle choice? I’ve got a great collection but not sure they’re CB cars.

Do it!
I've never heard of someone using a Saab for something like this..but I guess it worked...I had a buddy who had one.
In a Saab, perfect. Nice run fellas. Cheers 🇨🇦
Poor Saab, GM can ruin a wet dream.
I've owned 2 Saabs, a 1995 900 SE Turbo Convertible, and still own a 2008 93 2.0T Combi that my daughter drives. They are excellent high-speed highway cars and are low profile, don't attract much cop attention + the small frontal area (especially compared to suv's) makes them a hard target for radar to lock on giving you time to slow down. Both made it over 200k miles reliably, with very few tickets.
Awesome! The perfect ride for long, high-speed runs. The seats are super comfortable!!
So cool they got to do this in a Saab! It’s a shame they’re not around anymore, I always liked them :(
Florida to Alaska should be the new challenge
How bout the entire Pan-American highway. Alaska to Argentina
Canadian stunt driving laws are killer though.
"I got down to 30 mph because there was 2 inches of snow on the Interstate". Canada has left the chat.... 😁
Well they had go fast tires, not good snows. But hey, they got through it and didn't end up in the ditch
I got 3 Saabs !!! I hope I could get a 04 aero and build it even more!!! Hopefully to show on my channel, there nice but when they break not so much 🥲
I used to have a 2000 Saab 9-5 for about two years. From 2018-2020. I loved it. Wish I kept it but had to sell it before joining the army. The worst part is the guy I sold it to happened to wreck it about a year later or so. It was by far my favorite car I've owned.
Would love to know about the transmission fault and whatever was going on with the exhaust. Great stuff.
Transmission overheated because we clogged the s**t out of it, especially in Chicago. Tailpipe was a bit rustier than we realized and departed the car shortly after we got to PA. If you are on 80west and see a shiny tailpipe on the shoulder, it’s a souvenir from us, you’re welcome.
I have a 2006 Saab 9-5 Aero fully loaded with Counter Measures.
Nice to see the Saab getting some love.
these stories are always entertaining, gotta love vinwiki
I still think doing it in something like a cargo van with a giant gas tank in the back and have it painted like a mail van would be good.
I figured for sure you'd mention the exhaust pipe as well.
Only so much time for the video 😂
Damn, 140 mph in Saab 9-5? He must have tuned it up well.
Top speed 155 multiple times
We have a 2007 9.5 Aero wagon that was sold to first Swiss owner new with full Hirsch setup - 300hp and 400 Nm - original registration documents state 259 kph top speed
They do that stock man.
A 9-3 will easily climb above 130
Top speed stock is 155, and the car can do it. But it helps to have the mods to hit even 160 MPH much quicker. This specific 9-5 is indeed modified with forged internals and some chassis upgrades, including rear springs from the wagon variant to accomodate the extra fuel.
Man, this whole new job starting early is throwing off my vinwiki watching! Can't wait to watch this later
Where is your new job?
Way to go guys! You should be very proud of this run!
Proud of the accomplishment and the friendships it yields, thanks man!
As an owner of a Saab 9-5, I’m happy and proud to see it featured as a Cannonball record breaker. It’s such an awesome car on the highway.
Awesome to see this crew tell the story of their record run! Legends! Now where do i send money for a mark Spence shirt?
Great to be in the same class as other legends like yourself sir!
I had a 95 Aero great car. Mine was a manual transmission.
What an awesome experience. amazing country. fires and snow on the same run.
Wanna travel confortably at 180kph on the german autobahn, carrying 3 people and a pet rabbit? Get a diesel 9-5 combi! SAAB lives on!
When I bought my 04 93 I used to commute for work about 130 miles every day for almost a year every couple of months I wondered why no one has done a cannon ball run in a Saab because they handle high speeds comfortably there discreet and there super fun and cheap
I work for the Colorado Department of Transportation in Glenwood Springs. I was working traffic control for the big fire in 2020, and we had the road closed for a little over one month.... lol of I would've known about your attempt. I could've escorted you through and told them that it was a life or death emergency. You'd be surprised how much e do that during major road closers. And yes, the detour that e have to send people on absolutely sucks to drive. Sorry for that guys...... you can thank the jackass that tossed his cigarette out the window.
Can I message you somewhere like on Instagram?
@@EA40 who are you?
@@kennylewis8752 let's just say one of the current Cannonball record holders in the S6 knows exactly who I am. And so do some people I did Gumball with :)

Living near Glenwood Springs, I can say that, the fire and 170 mile reroute is very accurate
A morning coffee and vinwiki I love it
Slipstream towing & tech modern spotting is unobtainabium. Just long stretches at speed is an endurance exercise.
I enjoyed the editing on this cutting between the 3 people for a seemless storyline
Yes! Saabs for the win!
Obscure sleepers are my absolute favorite type of car. What I’d give to own a Saab 9-7X Aero or a twin turbo Toyota Aristo
68hrs.. that's about what I drive every week. The trick with Chicago traffic is to set GPS for avoid tolls. It takes you through traffic on the interstate but bypasses most of it. It looks slower because you'll be driving through stoplights, but at least your doing around 45 instead of stop and go.
Outstanding story as always! I pray to whomever is listening I do this in the next 5 years. The road, it calls to me.
I’ve had a few 9-5’s and worked for Saab. Fast highway car, but I hope he put better brakes on this, they were awful. The older 9-5’s had a 3L V6 out of the Cadillac Catera, the 4 cyl turbos were better.
