I'm from a tiny town in rural Scotland (one of the whitest areas in the UK) and the Home Office has just bought a hotel there to house illegal migrants - all of whom are young men who aren't even fleeing any war. Same another towns local to it. Absolutely no one has asked for this, no one wants this, but it is being forced upon us all over the Europe. And we, the taxpayers, are paying for it and having our resources stretched to breaking point because of it.

Most of the responsibility for this lies with the voters, who more often than not vote strictly by party or for "the name they know," which is why career politicians like Mitch McConnell, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and so many others are enabled to stay in office forever and set the standards for non-accountability. @ajourney50@ajourney508 ай бұрын
    • NYC didn’t kick out their immigrants. Unlike Texas and Florida who have put barriers in the border river that caused people to drown. Never mind shipping them to other states instead of taking care of their own responsibilities. I am liberal, so I’m disappointed that Cash is showing only FOX “News”. They have been charged mega bucks for the lies they told and had to fire Tucker Carlson for all the evil lies he spouts. Don’t jump on me. This is my opinion and I am entitled to it. I am not bashing Cash or anyone else for being conservative. One problem that compounds the immigrant crisis is the number of Americans who continue to think of NYC as their own personal way to earn a fortune and become rich and famous. As a teenager back in the 1970’s I had that desire. But visiting the place and seeing the cost of spaces to sleep while sharing bathroom facilities with everyone on the floor was outrageous. I went home. Got an average job and built my life slowly and steadily. We cannot all be millionaires, or famous actors/musicians. Bus a few tables. Earn your tips. Go home and help your parents. It is far from ideal, but it affords most of us better chances at reaching an acceptable quality of living. As far as garbage clean-up, why not task immigrants with duties like these in exchange for their housing here? It drives me crazy when Americans whine about immigrants taking work away from US citizens. But ask the citizens why they are refusing menial labor jobs on farms, city services, etc. there are plenty of job openings…but we cannot all make exorbitant salaries. Start slow and build up. That was what I had to do and I never became a rich person. Scrubbing floors is a drag, but starving is life threatening. Making babies when you cannot feed yourself is criminal. We all make choices. This, these problems belong to every citizen, and immigrant worldwide. Immigration is a worldwide problem because of many issues, including wars in third world countries. If you can’t handle the city…move. Stop crowding the subways. Midwestern towns are less expensive and could offer you a steep rise in your way of life. PS: if your parents let you move home, pull you weight. You are no longer a helpless child who needs their care. As an adult you need to share equally in the cost of living with them. Or, get your own apartment. That is certainly going to make more responsibilities for you. Ask not what your country can do for you. But what you can do for your country. J.F. Kennedy.

With all the flooding last Friday, I would think that the infrastructure needs to be maintained much better...and need to put money into updating it, as these weather patterns are happening more frequently. When the US sends help to starving and disaster stricken people overseas, it buys us influence against the larger threats of expansion of nefarious powers; it's not just charity. We got a lot of cheap goods from China for many years instead of wages keeping up with inflation. That needs to be corrected now. That trade with China and other Asian countries cut their poverty in half, making them stronger; that's a good thing. Now it's time to cut back on them, producing what we need (not want) within the US, Mexico and Canada. Isolationism in this era of globalism is a huge mistake.

  • 1:00 "It looks like they fixed it". Anyone who lives in this city knows they don't fix anything. They put those huge orange tubes around the area for about 6 decades, and then they drill a huge hole in the ground, "fix" whatever was wrong below the street, then a huge forklift carries this large metal sheet that is used as the street. Right next to the scaffolding thats been there since 2001, and a blocked off sidewalk that forces people to walk on the street with a crossing guard. No matter what area you live in, its like this, rich or poor, you're at least 50 feet away from a scaffolding or a closed off street.

Meanwhile Texas has barred this for years at this point so now NY got what they wanted asylum for immigrants and now NYers feel the brunt of it all.🤷🏽‍♀️

  • My city has recently declared bankruptcy. There are many causes, including corruption, mismanagement, and wasted money on vanity projects. However, the city has taken in large numbers of migrants. Facilities have had to be provided for them, often to the disadvantage of locals. There are homeless locals, working people struggling to provide their families with food, and a breakdown of the infrastructure in areas that do not get money spent on them, such as the suburbs just outside the CBD. No one knows what will happen next, but I know that I'll be paying higher local tax for fewer services. No one is willing to take responsibility. It's like a game of pass the parcel watching the blame go round and round. Good luck, New York. You're going to need it.

  • Prior to Covid I visited NYC. My husband and I were walking around and came upon a lovely neighborhood. At least half the homes had signs that said “Migrants Welcome Here”. My first thought was that this neighborhood was so off the beaten path that it was unlikely any migrants could even find this welcoming spot. Then I wondered just how welcoming these people would be. Would they welcome them into their homes? I think the solution is to house the migrants into every home that had one of those signs. They were wither virtue signaling knowing they had zero risk or they meant it. Let’s put it to the test.

  • They need to immediately clarify the right no shelter law to only apply to U.S. Citizens (and perhaps legal residents as well). The politicians who put all New Yorkers in this situation aren't going to be the ones suffering because of those cuts to services. Federally there should be something to prevent states or cities from declaring themselves sanctuaries.

    @XSemperIdem5@XSemperIdem55 ай бұрын
  • In Canada, we are basically a sanctuary country. Refugees have problems which everyone is trying to solve. Still, no one would think to blame infrastructure issues on refugees. We have always invested fairly heavily in infrastructure while the US has not. The number of refugees who have arrived in your city in the last year or two didn't rot the infrastructure. That was a lack of maintenance over decades.

  • I was having a conversation with someone who does contracts with the Department of Education and being that I am a 33 year employee of the agency and know how much wasteful spending goes on with all the city agencies I can assure you that they can actually make cuts and be OK. We waste 10's of billions on unnecessary nonsense throughout the system. If you knew how much they spend on nonsense it would make your head spin... You can literally operate a major city with the budget of the NY DOE alone.
