  • Team Jamaica had that synergy. Frater, Carter and Usain were consistent on the same relay team from 2007-2012. Only one person changed in the line. They broke the WR together 3 times. Yohan being in 2 of them

GBR with Gemili, Zharnel, Kilty & Mitchell-Blake are #3 all-time (37.36) & JPN #4 (37.43) which illustrates just how crucial getting those super slick exchanges right are! @gideonmushure9446@gideonmushure9446Ай бұрын
    • With enough practice I think there is a chance they get good handoffs, but I agree on speed. If Lyles gets down to 9.7 high form, Coleman 9.7 high, Kerley 9.7 high & Knighton 9.9 low (but a great turn runner) that still leaves a lot. Bolt was in 9.63 shape, so even if Lyles get down to say 9.78 that's still 0.15 lost on the last leg alone. Knighton is good, 19.49 PB in the 200m is amazing, but Blake ran a 19.26 the year prior to the London WR & was motoring, I think even if Knighton runs the best turn of his life, that's another 0.15 behind, Blake was in 9.75 shape, if Knighton gets down to 9.90 that's 0.15 behind. Then Jamaica had a 9.78 & a 9.88 runner. If Coleman & Kerley both get down to 9.78ish form they can gain 0.1 there on speed. So without including hand-offs Jamaica is minimum 0.20 ahead, but likely more. US only being 0.2 behind is assuming Kerley & Coleman both get back to their peak form, Lyles becomes better than his best self & so does Knighton. If say 2 of those 4 things happen not 4/4 then we're looking at 0.40 behind, which seems more realistic. I'd guess they run a 37.20 or so with good hand-offs. They're PBs added up are also slower than when team US ran the 37.04 that including Tyson Gay & Justin Gatlin (and then Ryan Bailey was in 9.8 mid form, that was his peak season).

    • @@richardgallimore5976 This why you can't rely on mathematics with individual times to estimate relay times. It's not the same. Andre Degrasse has had some of the fastest anchor legs ever running sub 9 secs but he's only run sub 9.9 in the reg 100m once. Asafa Powell, according to some researchers, has the fastest leg in a 4x100 ever with 8.7 or 8.6 but he's only 4th fastest all-time with 9.72. At the very least Asafa at his best was comparable to Usain at his best when it came to relay legs and Asafa was also faster than both Gay and Blake (both of them had run faster in the individual 100m, Gay did it twice with Asafa in the race for his 9.71 and 9.69). It's the same on the women's side. Allyson Felix has one of the fastest splits in a 4x400 ever with 47.9, if I recall correctly, but she never managed to run sub 49 secs in the reg 400m where many women were faster than her. Back to the 4x100, Abby Steiner had one of the fastest splits on a curve in 2022, beating 10.7 sprinters, but her 100m PB was only 10.9. A relay is a lot different due to the running start and the team atmosphere. Knighton's 100m PB isn't comparable to how he runs on the curve with a running start. You can't figure that out with a calculator. Coleman and Kerley are faster than Nesta Carter and Michael Frater and Lyles top end speed is comparable to Gay and Bolt or in that ballpark. Remember that when Noah ran 19.31, his closing 100m was faster than Bolt's and 2nd only to Blake when he ran 19.26. Aside from Knighton, all of the supposed current US team is faster than Bailey was. I'm not saying they'll break the world record. I personally don't think they'll get it this year but I am saying you can't estimate that they'll go 37.2 based on their PBs. I do think they can challenge the American record this year and possibly have an opportunity to go sub 37 secs.

That mindset makes an athlete feel superior to his teammates and resistant to running other legs if the coaches need to adjust accordingly. For example, that was the problem with Carl Lewis and, recently, the JAM ladies. Self-entitled egos have been costly and the catalysts for teams not achieving gold medals when they should've won on paper and literally. Meanwhile, trust that I ain't new to the game. I ran in high school, college, and afterward, so I know the sport well. Even you acknowledged that the real challenge for the USA is assembling a team that successfully gets the stick around the oval. Holla at Justin. He's been a part of teams that royally f-upped the baton exchanges. I could tell you a few stories, but I will leave that alone. Finally, I feel ya and understand your sentiment, but I respectfully disagree. Other athletes are just as capable as Lyles's running anchor. The key to winning and breaking records is placing athletes where they are most suited. Stay blessed.

If they did that, then got some serious baton exchange practice before the Olympics or World Champs, they'd be dynamite. With so many countries having great sprinting quartets the key is getting the stick passed as smoothly as possible; remember the Canadians in Tokyo had great passes and came away with the gold. Jamaica, GB, China, Japan, Dominican Republic and others can all threaten for podium spots.

You should have the worlds top 2 fastest sprinters, at the same time, peaking/being at their prime with other two absolute beast sprinters with superior experience in high pressure competitions. Then you would have to absolutely get the baton exchange not just smooth, but also right without wasting even 1/10th of a millisecond. On top of which, everyone in the team must have or should be capable to run 9.7change on a high pressure day. After all this, you must be extremely confident and lucky to get the inside lanes so that victory is always in sight.. And even after all this, there is still a huge doubt if weather, temperature, mental conditions, race fatigue and other parameters are favourable to you. When the absolute best USA team of legends like Gatlin and literally Cheetahs like Tyson gay couldn’t beat it, it shows what a big ask and a mountain of a task this is. • That’s a good team. But i have to disagree. We have a 9.5, 9.6, 9.7 and 9.8 for the Jamaican team. They had great baton changes. American present team: 9.7,9.8, 10, 9.7. American former team: 9.6,9.7,9.8 and 9.9. This team had better times than this present team. They also had great baton changes, and the Jamaica team won by a meaningful margin. I’m persuaded by those times, that the Jamaican team will highly likely keep the record.

    • Agreed. I think Coleman -> Kerley -> Knighton -> Lyles with crisp hand-offs & all of them running at their peak will give around 37.20. If 3 out of 4 hand-offs are good maybe 37.40, etc.

    • splits in the 4x100 are usually faster than the normal 100 cuz they receive the baton after already accelerating. Gatlin and anyone who isnt a casual in track know this so idk why your saying that

Not the same as comparing 2011 Bolt to 2017 Bolt, not at all. 2011 Bolt likely was 9.6s and 2017 Bolt was 9.9/10s, so vastly different from the Gay situation.

  • Man you guys are sleeping that team would lose to another usa team of 4.. 1st Marvin Bracey 2nd Kung fu Kenny 3rd. Bromell 4th Michael Norman Its not about being fast in the 100m its about being fast on the fly. Thats the problem with the usa they always focus in 100m when no one besides first leg is coming out the blocks everyone else is moving on the fly. That team would beat the team with noah only because of colman is the weakest link. They could only keep him on first leg and let him run a short leg. If they set up the relay right. Marvin 9.85/20.55 vs Colman 9.76/19.85 on a curve I dont see anyone starting better then marvin on the curve. 2nd leg kun fu kenny 9.89/19.42*VS Fred kerley 9.76/19.75* we already seen keeny beat fred in the 200m and he is faster on the fly then fred. 3rd leg is key with Erriyon Knighton 9.98*/19.49 vs Trayvon bromell 9.75*/19.86 * thats a great leg to witness. Them two right there will make history like blake did on his 3rd leg split. 4th leg Noah Lyles 9.80*/19.31 vs Michael Norman 9.86/19.70 on the fly people forget that norman can run just as fast as anyone else on the fly. Norman 100m pb is 9.86, noah is 9.83 people sleep on him. His 200m is 19.70 noah 19.31 Also you guys can not forget you could make a case to replace bromell if he is not 100% back from his injury with courtney lindsay who is also a great candidate and trains with kung fu kenny. His PB is 9.89 and 19.71 I think that line up would beat the noah and Coleman line up as well. Both line up has world champions and medalist so it would be a great race. You could even make a 3rd team and it would be competitive as well..the USA has the deepest team in the world and just wait until NCAA someone going to come out the wood works and drop a crazy time and enter the conversation about being on a relay. 3rd team stand by Courtney Lindsey 9.89/19.71 Terrance Laird 9.80*/19.64* Cravont Charleston 9.87* Pjai Austin 9.88* Micah Williams 9.83* So that's why they need to be a true relay camp and see who really wants to do it no egos. Dont worry about legs just focus on winning and breaking the WR.

    • You can get almost a second faster with a flying start. Like Bolt ran 8.65 for the final split I believe, or 8.68 & he ran a 9.63 that year in the open 100. A team of 4 runners like 10.00~10.10 can get a mid 38 with good hand-offs, your math is off.

  • The only way that what you just said "Gatlin" is that their handoffs would have to be perfect (& for me that means they would have to figure out how to take off at full speed, not worrying weather they get caught or not but by faith work closely much practice as possible as the coming runner 🏃‍♂️ is approa- ching & in return that runner hand- ing off gives it to the receiver at that pace, other wise young men it ain't happening in my humble opinion) now with that said without doubt they have the ability to win but to surpass that 36+with just raw speed sorry to burst you guys bubble 🫧 but they ain't gonna do it my friends, & I stand on that!!!
