It's funny how the Trolls movie's humor grew with it's audience. I watched it in theaters with my older sister and her 5 year old kid. (Mostly cuz I watched the first one when I was a kid, the second one when I was a teen, and so of course I have to watch the third one) It was really enjoyable to watch because they added a good amount of adult jokes. i actually love that lol. i'm a sucker for "thinks they don't care but actually super does" villains
Yess, specially since in the scene talked about in 14:15, you can read through a very subtle but really, reeeally good body language sequence of velvet running up through the corridor where she first looks worried and out of breath, finally finds veneer and has a shocked look in her face for about half a second, puts a hand in her chest and sighs in relief, to then start to trot calmly into his direction after seeing Veneer managed to catch Floyd This doesn't just show how much she was worried about losing her easy ticket to fame in my opinion, but that she's also legitimately glad at her brother in this scene. Pair the previous shock look she had half a second prior with the one time we see Velvet have a calm composure in what, the entire movie? And it does make me believe she didn't overhear their conversation at all
I can definitely see velvet as being the more dominant and protective sibling when they were young, and veneer being shyer and less confrontational. Which probably eventually led to velvet feeling as if she knows what’s best for veneer and veneer following along because he loves his sister and wants to support her as she did for him when they were younger
@@CharlesJThomasI know this is a late reply but to me in a nutshell Velvet reminds me of Sasha Waybright from Amphibia

So trueee!!! Immediately I saw his new look, I fully prepared for him to become the punchline of some joke like that but to see that he wasn't was truly surprising and welcomed
For real it was refreshing how no one made fun of him for it and didn’t become a Homer Simpson or Peter Griffin like character.
They kind of do the same thing with Bridget and Gristle. They're the only characters I've seen in children's media that make plus sized look sexy.

The fact Trolls 3 from the TROLLS franchise had better villains and probably succeed in the box office than Wish DISNEYS 100 YEAR CELEBRATION 💀💀 which says something 👁️

I don't get the comment. DreamWorks is a top studio, why would you expect their production to be automatically crushed by Disney. It's not that surprising that Trolls 3 ended up (in my opinion) a better movie
Disneys writing has been messy, it really shows with Wish, but the pacing and some writing choices in the other movies these past few years have been odd too. Even back when frozen came out some aspects just felt rushed to me

You do realize that Velvet is voiced by a hated person, right?
“This Video is a thin-veiled excuse to talk about Velvet and Venner” THATS WHAT I WANTED TO SEE PEOPLE TALK ABOUT!!! It’s a wonderful excuse indeed.
Branch’s arc throughout these movies is truly astonishing. He went from being a grumpy, paranoid, sarcastic, traumatised hermit to a brave, kind, cute, caring sweetheart. I’ll be honest. He’s the main reason why I’ve stuck around with this franchise for so long.
He’s a great character, and his development is honestly great
And he's so sassy and silly too. Gotta love him for it.
Branch is my favorite character in these and I really hate how he kinda takes a backseat in the shows. There’s a lot of episodes centered around him in ‘Trolls the beat goes on’ but some episodes he’s not in at all and in “Trollstopia” he might as well be a background character.
@@jollymastermind1237 I agree. In Trolls: The Beat Goes on, he was a main character and had a fair amount of episodes focused on him. But in TrollsTopia, he gets insultingly sidelined. He barely appears in any episodes and the writers don’t allow him to bond with the new characters. Especially Val who shares a lot of similarities to Branch.
The best part is that he was like this from the start. And then the traumas stacked. So his character development has more or less been a reversion to the sweet boy he used to be. But snarkier and classier.
Having just watched Trolls Band Together with my younger sister, it was surprising how much I felt the villains sibling dynamic as flawed as it is. Me and my sister have a great relationship, unlike the villains, but we still felt the "siblingness" between them.
Aside from Veneer not wanting Floyd to die, Velvet and Veneer were actually seem to be getting along. They both loved the fame and attention and the stuff they got.
@@shadowbeast9671 Ignoring all of the opportunities we saw Velvet abusing her brother, then yeah

LMFAOOOOO YEA YES

@@aWERFRGT6545BGFG true tho cuz a lot of autistic people relate to branch, and when the guy in the video said how the trolls didn’t applaud him until he started singing (or conforming kinda) rly struck me as them wanting him to act allistic But obviously he’s not canonically autistic so yk it’s just a headcanon
They somewhat cover this in the show Trolls the beat goes on. The very last episode is about how Branch can’t be what the other Trolls want him to be and the others accepting him for it.
I think the criticism on Trolls 1 & 2 encourages Dreamworks to do better in Trolls 3. Cause the Poppy in Trolls 3 felt nothing like the toxic positive Poppy I used to see her since Trolls 1, cause now I see the current Poppy as someone who is actually caring and accepting, I love her
I have a personal theory as to why Branch's colors get desaturated again in the second film. Maybe that bright blue and green *wasn't* actually his "true colors", and instead that's just what he looks like when ABSURDLY positive (like how the others get desaturated when absurdly depressed) and due to him being more naturally pessimistic, the more muted tones are his real true colors.
I personally see it as how the trauma he experienced as a child affected him and his personality lifelong. He can recover, but it still leaves an impact. I think that's very realistic as a portrayal actually.
As an OG trolls fan for 7 years, I can say that this franchise is getting better and better each year. Band Together was an amazing film and probably one of my favorite animated movies ever. I just love the way the writers use Poppy and Branch's relationship dynamics. They're just so good together. And idk why their flirting gives me so much comfort for no reason Every single character in the 3rd movie is very likable and the soundtrack did not need to go THIS HARD. I love if viva and branch had a talk about the abandonment issues that they both it wouldn’t make the movie so much more emotional
Agreed. We do somewhat get a scene like that where Branch empathises with Viva about being afraid of the outside world and still living in fear of the Bergens, but it then turns into a joke about how Branch never wore pants. Hopefully, we’ll get more Branch and Viva moments in the future.
It’s subtle but I love Branch and Poppy’s little slow burn romance throughout the 3 movies (plus the 2 specials) First movie they’re somewhat rivals who learn to understand each other Christmas special they’re friends Second movie they’re best friends with a mutual pinning for each other Second Christmas special there’s hints that they’re more than just friends (with Poppy kissing Branch on the cheek by the end) Third movie they are an official couple with them sharing the big kiss at the end and even teasing the possibility of them getting married Though it’s not the main focus of the franchise, I find their subtle blooming romance of enemies to friends to lovers very sweet
i love their relationship so so much i’m so insane about them
Saw Band Together with my kid and couldn't stop thinking about Velvet and Veneer. What a interesting relationship dynamic in a kids movie. Velvet is basically addicted to using trolls (yes obviously a drug to them) and pushes her brother to follow. He does it too, even though he's not that comfortable about it, because he loves her. Then she pulls them both down. I would watch another video about them if you made it and you perfectly summed up the movies.
i agree, there's a surprising maturity to the themes. glad you enjoyed the vid dude! would love to talk about them more later, lots i cut about them to keep on topic

I genuinely wish they did more with Viva or saved her for a different story tbh I had the impression that this was gonna be Branch’s movie so Viva just coming it felt a bit weird for me The movie felt a bit cramped for me but I won’t lie that I enjoyed Viva and Poppy’s adorable dynamic Me and my best friend are basically a mix of them and Velvet n Veneer I also wanna point out how the third movie just shows the standard ppl should be having when it comes to romantic relationships Ik it’s not the main part of the movie but the amount of healthy couples in this film is amazing That scene where Poppy talks with Branch after he walks out to save Floyd on his own still makes me tear up and her and Branch’s new rls is just rly fun to watch (their constant flirting gives me sm serotonin) Bruce’s relationship with his wife Brandy is just rly sweet since you can tell they still have that spark even when they have kids and work (altho I have many questions abt how they even had kids) and Bridget and Gristle are so disgustingly in love with eachother I feel a bit weird watching them 💀 The writers in this movie basically just said “GET YOURSELF A PERSON LIKE THIS”
I think it's kind of refreshing that DreamWorks treats Branch and Poppy's romance as a relationship that develops over time, as opposed to a life altering event. They are the only DreamWorks couple whose relationship develops within each film while others pull a 180 within a few scenes of the first film.
I recognize you!
OMG HI BRIII
Right?? I love how all the couples were just absolute simps for each other in the third movie LMFAO
The film was still less cramped than World Tour since that film couldn't give all of the trolls tribes the attention they deserved.
You’re literally the only person who really gets Velvet and Vaneer’s dynamic and why it’s good to allow redemption villains to have consequences for their actions.
1:24 correction she strangles that one guy and you can see branch smile about it. Sidenote: she was genuinely trying to strangle him and not just choke him like branch was doing.
what i absolutely love about the trolls series is branch's entire character arc. a lot of people didn't really like how his colors dulled after the first movie, but i think it's a great (but subtle?) portrayal of how trauma (from his grandma's death, and his brothers abandoning him) never really going away. it gets better over time, but the grief and the hurt are still there. i think its a great way for parents/guardian figures to talk about emotional burdens with their children. it's not always as visually obvious like branch with his dull colors, but everyone carries a different kind of baggage which is why it's so important to be kind!
One thing I really liked about the third one is how natural the songs flow. I found myself being quickly bored by pop songs after pop songs in the first one, the second being centered on the various music genre goes more smoothly but the third just goes HARD. Brozone's Back using three songs (Candy Girl by New Edition, I Want You Back by *NSYNC and Bee Gees Stayin' Alive) was amazing and I'm glad it's not the only songs being mixed this way!

@@adamH.1theres actually a term for this! when you are starting your healing/mental health journey to becoming better, or recovering from addiction (which branch obviously has some correlation to in the third movie) , there is often a phase where the person feeling euphoria or extreme happiness called the pink/honeymoon phase. this only last a few weeks at most, and afterwards a person revert back to their normal levels of happiness and emotion. do i believe dreamworks put this much thought into branch? no but its pretty neat

I really do like Velvet and Veneer, and I hope we do eventually see more of them even if its a cameo in the inevtiable Trolls 4. I like how instead of giving them some sad backstory they just went with a story of wanting to chase fame without putting in the work which feels like a realistic villain goals for a movie about singing. Velvet especially, everything about her character is so interesting. - The fact that she has a different singing and speaking VA (Amy Schumer speaking, Briana Mazzola singing), so her singing voice quite literally isn't her own voice (unliked Veneer who is voiced by Andrew Ranells who also did his songs). It adds a lot more to the scene where Veneer says that maybe they should just practice. - The fact that they quite literally sing a song about working for your talent/fame, without having done anything but steal talent themselves. - The line "All my talent, it doesn't grow on trees" is a direct reference to the fact that the pop trolls did come from trees. There's just so many details going into the character.
And the small details of her PUMPING the perfume on while Veneer only did one pump at a time (from what I remember) really drives home that her singing voice/talent isn’t hers, and that Veneer’s natural talent is just enhanced. (It also showcases how Veneer is generally much kinder to Floyd by only using what they need)
funnily enough i should have a short about the irony in the song lyrics dropping tomorrow (there are hidden messages in fame and sweet dreams too)
Unfortunately, with the amount of characters they’ve cut or left out over the years (DJ suki, smidge, fuzzbert, harper, legsly, pretty much every other troll tribe, which they couldve atleast brought some of the leaders back in), I have a feeling Velvet and Veneer might not come back, but maybe Mount Rageons will, who knows.
I love how relatable Poppy and Branch's relationship is. Everything is fine and dandy at first, but they start to fight because they have this idea of how perfect they are. They both are scared to admit what's wrong until they have one big blow-up fight. They think the world is over until they both realize everyone fights and nothing is perfect.
for me the end of trolls band togheter should also seen her secretary getting arrested or something similar cause like venner she also helped velvet even if she herself didnt participate, she is still an acomplish in the crime, so for me it would be great that in the end we could have gotten confirmation that her and venner were put on lesser sentances unlike velvet since velvet is pretty much the mastermind of the operation, though i gotta said i do love the trolls franchise for a long time, i saw the first one and just fell in love with the concept the second one just made me more happy cause more music styles also barbs style is so cool, and the third one just blow my mind

What aspect of this franchise makes it "for girls"?
@@ThePrincessCH A general cute aesthetic and a female lead. Important to note that I the commenter think its dumb to boil down franchises as for boys/for girls, but obviously I don't control the minds of the general populous
I think people put it down, not because it's "for girls" but because it's "a cash grab". It's definitely geared towards young children, 5-8 overall, rather than for girls. If it was for girls, there'd be more girl co leads rather than a predominantly male cast.
@acearohippo I think the female characters stand out the most, though. Aside from Branch, the characters with the most lines seem to be Poppy, Bridget, and Chef.
@@ThePrincessCH they do stand out, but that still doesn't mean it's made for girls. Nothing else op says is wrong, just clarifying that the ire is for DreamWorks putting out more movie franchises for really young audiences, rather than this being an issue of made for girls vs made for boys. Edit: and to further clarify, it being made for younger audiences means that it's mostly just made to sell toys and merch, with very little plot in mind.
i think also something to be talked about is that the reason velvet specifically is such a good villain is because she has a motive that she has whole heartedly committed to. she wants to be famous so incredibly badly and you can see that desperation for her to maintain her status in the final scene at mount rageous. while her methods are obviously corrupt and abusive you can still grasp why shes doing it all which, on top of her demeanour, makes her likeable in a very fun and campy villain way.

I'd been avoiding watching the third movie because of the whole "lost sibling" trope I saw in the trailers. I thought I wouldn't like it. But then I saw this video in my recommendations and the title alone finally pushed me to watch it. And what a FOOL I was. I LOVE this franchise so much. I've rewatched Band Together three times in a row yesterday. I have no idea how they keep making it work. My favorite part has got to be Broppy. Their relationship is so healthy I wanna cry. I love your video and I'm glad I'm not alone in my little Trolls obsession.
Now that I think about it, Gristle and Bridget also have a healthy relationship. So do Bruce and his wife. Dreamworks nails romance in their movies.
I think Branch and Poppy are among the most realistic DreamWorks romances since the ones I've seen usually treat romance as a life altering event while Poppy and Branch's relationship develops in stages within each film.
I learned very early on that the trailers for any Trolls movies will never do the movie justice. I thought I wouldn't like the first Trolls movie because the trailer was meh and had the "serious guy finds overly optimistic and happy girl annoying" trope. But I decided to rent it on KZhead and I fell in love with the Trolls franchise ever since.
@@b1njjj95oh, right, the trailers for the first movie... Completely forgot about them. I've watched the trailers after I'd seen the movie itself and I remember thinking "wow, those suck". No wonder people have such a negative opinion on the franchise.
@@heliaurano676 Haha yeah the trailers really don't do the movies justice. 😅
*Me 2016:* I like branch more because he’s a boy! *Me 2023:* I like him because he has more of a personality
As someone who doesn't like the first Trolls, I can sort of see the franchise progressively getting better with their storytelling. That and the fandom is starting to pick up pace with Brozone content before and after TBT. While it was out of nohwere and kinda stupid to randomly add brothers and a sister for Branch and Poppy respectively, I think it was kinda smart too since they gave the audience ideas on how their lives were like before they were separated. I'm not saying adding the variety of Trolls isn't a wise decision(kinda), but having family bonds makes it more relatable to see where their relationships were and will be after the events of the movie.
I think the brothers part made it better, but Viva had no reason to really be here. In the first film Peppy always screams “No trolls left behind!” And somehow didn’t notice his other daughter was missing and only thought about Poppy? Makes no sense, but whatever.
i cant stress enough how obsessed i am with velvet and veneer, i love them SO MUCH
While I don't agree with every point my goodness is it a breath of fresh air to see Trolls is good videos. Great job
i'm glad to give the series a spotlight like this! appreciate that you can still appreciate my video 😎

Man I remember seeing tons of trolls hate when it came out years ago. Insane seeing youtube reviewers talking well about it
Ive always liked Trolls. Its a stupid kids movie that I had fun watching, guilty pleasure if you will. When Band Together came out, I wanted to watch it so bad, because I had heard it was really good, but I knew none of my friends would be caught dead watching those movies. But a couple days ago at 5 PM, I went in to watch the movie, and lemme tell you, it was one of the best experiences I had in my life. I had the whole theatre to myself, no one else was there, so I could enjoy to my hearts content, and I loved the story, characters, AND THE SONGS. I was singing along with the songs because no one else was there to hear. It was truly awesome :)
I stopped caring about whether or not I can find friends to go see a movie with me years ago. I made sure to watch Band Together by myself on opening night, and it was nice seeing teenie boppers, kiddies and adults in the audience. It's such a good movie!
I saw one, ONE clip of Velvet and Veneer and was instantly obsessed with them
Trolls is one of the movies where, it’s no masterpiece, but you still had fun.
5:08 yes thissss the second movie really added more to to the world of trolls but DEFINITELY added more nuance to poppy, bc in way way she could be seen as much of an antagonist as barb, Esp the time that this came out in 2020, the message stuck me even more. The last thing anybody (at least in the US where I reside) needed was to be divided as we were Also world tour went all out with the soundtrack, I still listen to the “other side” often 🥺❤️
Can we please talk about the fact that Spruce/Bruce has children WITH A FREAKING MUPPET
I love that John Dory said "How?" when Bruce said they make it work. 'Cause someone please, please PLEASE tell me how they make it work! Bruce's children are BIGGER than him. Oh man haha! It was giving Donkey and Dragon all over again. 🤣🤣
@@b1njjj95the flashbacks congrats Dreamworks you fried our brains for a second time
It's about time to recognize DreamWorks as the studio that knows how to create great sequels. With a few exceptions, they make the franchise way more interesting and many people consider them to be even better than the original movies.
You know, that is true. The characters keep getting more and more creative.
As much as I'm neutral to the franchise, the third movie really impressed me. It's now listed in my top 10 favorite animated movies.
THATS WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING!!! Trolls is a guilty favorite of mine but ironically, the marketable aspects of the movie (its visual styles and design) hooks me back into it. Just the scrapbook feel of everything, especially in the 2nd movie, is beautiful and I love the character designs so much. It's cheesy, it's a movie to keep your kids quiet, but it's got a distinct visual appeal. I was just thinking about the second movie in regard to how they design their environments to the respective troll races. The worldbuilding is there! But the corporate oversight fumbles it!
i really wanted to talk about how good the worldbuilding is, but had to strip parts where i hype it up to keep the viddy on topic (abt the writing 😔)
I loved Trolls back in 2016 cuz I was like 7-8, thought Trolls 2 was ok but cringe and i was a little hater(2020 me was certainly an era..) and I have yet to watch the third movie but from what I’ve seen I’m already obsessed! Once you get passed the fact that it’s advertised to kids and some of the jokes are a bit cringe and kiddy, the stories are actually really decent, filled with some great moments, and give us great songs to vibe to! Whatever they come out with next for Trolls, I’ll be happy to watch!
im honestly so glad trolls is getting the recognition it deserves. I have been a huge fan of the films since the release of the first movie because i was so obsessed with the little original toys. i got severely bullied for being a fan of the movies in 6th to 8th grade. But now im glad people see the appeal!
I'm so glad to see someone talking about these movies with a more positive angle! I've been a big fan of the Trolls movies ever since they came out and I feel like they always get the short end of the stick because people watch them with the idea already instilled that they're going to be some stupid shallow kids movies, which isn't entirely wrong in all aspects to be fair, but I feel as though they do have some value in their stories, plus if you can't get behind the writing which is totally understandable, I think most people can agree that the animation and visuals are absolutely stunning and super creative in their use of different textures and materials!
"Singing killed my grandma" didn't help
Man, I think you're the only one I see saying good things about this franchise!
Velvet and Veneer were definitely inspired by Sharpay and Ryan Evan’s from High School Musical
What do you mean I never saw high school musical before
OH YEAH I CAN SEE IT
Trolls really became something gold ✨️
Oh my word, I you was getting worried that something bad happened. Glad to see you are back and well!
Trolls is a kid friendly high on life
I only watched the 3rd troll movie because of velvet and veneer (i havent seen the second one), but the movie was so good, it actually made me a casual fan of the troll series 😂😂
I am so obsessed with the new Trolls movie 😭 It's so good and I'm glad to see more people recognize that!
SO TRUE SHIVER SPLATOON 3
this is the best video essay out there. these movies are amazing and everything with andrew rannells is my new hyperfix
isn't his voice so charming thooo as a gay i'm so happy he voices so many gay/gay coded characters lol
@@CharlesJThomas SAMEEE I LOVE ANDREW RANNELLS SO MUCH WE NEED MORE OF HIM trolls 4 gotta have velvet and veneer back.
I _LOVE_ this video!! I loved Trolls 3 when I expected to have only average interest in it like the last two, but this one captured me and I’ve been sucked into the Trolls fandom a little bit. I loved having a rundown about the three movies, the plots, and especially the characters!! Really enjoyed taking 15 mins to hear about how this franchise has progressed! So wonderful, thanks for the video! 😄
aww that means a lot, thank you! and i hope others who didn't love the first two still try the latest
@@CharlesJThomas I hope so too 😄
For some reason, trolls talks about addiction in two of three movies, and the third one talks about racism.
Wait, where in the third one? How did I miss that? 😓
@@sweetoil2952 no, like, two of them talk about addiction, and the one that doesn’t talks about racism
@@fazul5674 Well I’m asking where was the talk about racism?
1 and 3 talk about addiction 2 talks about racism
@@FamilyGirl566 Oh okay, that makes more sense. I thought they were saying it was in 3
I’m so happy that ppl are enjoying the movies finally. I’ve loved this franchise since even before the film came out. It always helped me through hard times. Also I really don’t think Trolls was about to ”stop being depressed, be happy” it was about overcoming trauma and finding happiness any way you can instead of just either hiding from the world or consuming things to escape it all. And that really helped by trolls came out when I ALSO lost a family member that caused a lot of trauma and depression. Branch had always been so relatable for me. Also I’m glad Branch stays a little dull bc trauma and depression doesn’t just go away like that. And we know this with Band Together where he still has more issues to deal with. Also although I’m not a Broppy fan, it’s such a good side plot throughout the series.
The I Want You Back drop made me cry real ass tears, how lucky are we to get movies that connect youth with great music and storytelling at the same time
Trolls would be the best modern DreamWorks property if it weren't for puss in boots releasing this year. I can respect a franchise knowing what to do with itself, especially THIS franchise. Happy surprises y'all, happy surprises
i love branch so much i’ve been obsessed with the trolls since it first came out.
I'm a 39 year old male and I love these three films. There were a couple of things with Trolls: World Tour that I had an issue with though. The first is that Branch has black hair again after Cloud Guy narrates at the start of the film that he'd found his "true colours" at the end of the first film. They sort of seemed to have noted the criticism of this as he had black/purple hair in Band Together. The second was that in Branch's journey in the first film to rediscover happiness he'd always secretly loved Poppy and expressed his love for her when singing "True Colours" to her to return her to her natural colours, plus his as well. Throughout the second film however the subplot is that he can't find the courage to tell her that he loves her until the end when all of the Trolls reunite.
im so glad that trolls is getting better with each installment
Trolls 3 is an absolute masterpiece
The weirdest part is the second trolls cartoon Trollstopia is pretty good. The extended cast they made for the show works pretty well, They even included Rock troll and country troll they made for the show in the second christmas special. So I do think as long as they remember Trolls works best with big dumb emotions and people dealing with them, often through song and dance the franchise might still grow. Also I mostly just like Val and Holly. For some reason giving Poppy two BFFs that come from different backgrounds just does so much for her as a character since she can interact with people that aren't just sugar high happy people.
I respect the effort to find good in Trols, is so easy to hate on a franchise like this but you still find good and showed it to the world. Thank you
Trolls unironically has Spiderverse level animation, especially Trolls 2
REAL it’s so inventive. i love the small details
Yeah the Trolls franchise doesn't play when it comes to details or textures. I love it!
It is amazing how much the Trolls grew. The Netflix series is pretty good to check out as well 🖤💖
shall get around to that sometime soon methinks

I think its also fun how velvet and veneers names also reflect their purposes as villains. while theyre both finishes to different kinds of materials, you hear a lot more people talk about velvet and its a veyr popular texture when compared to veneer which, while very often used, less people on a general scale talk about it!
And Veneer can also mean “cover or disguise (someone or something’s true nature) with an attractive appearance.” This can both symbolize Velvet and Veneer hiding the fact that they were talentless and using Floyd by keeping up the appearance of pop stars. This can also symbolize Veneer’s true nature of not really wanting to be famous, but is just going along with what Velvet says.
Okay Velvet and Veneer are some of the best kid movie villains i’ve seen in the past couple of years. velvet is clearly bad with no want of turning to be good. she doesn’t get a redemption arc and it works. I like veneer who does get a redemption arc, but still admit he’s wrong and it’s OK with that. They also have a really good music and Im not ashamed to admit that I have been listening to watch me work and Mount Rageous for a couple of weeks now.
I can NOT tell you how vindicated I feel watching this. I feel like every video about the Trolls movies I've seen just spend the runtime being overly negative. I love these movies! They're flawed, yeah, but they're also colorful and fun! Band Together is my favourite :D
fan fact the twins and all the others in the city(i forgot the name) were originally going to be a sub species of bergen
omg that's such a cool bit of info lol
I think I fully agree with you. I did like the first more than the second. I thought the second had a way stronger story, but the emotional pay off at the end wasn’t there for me. This third one was so good. The only issue I had with it was that I wanted it longer. I wanted more time with the characters and more time to live with their flaws for a stronger redemption to their developed selves.
agreeed. i understand why they chose to have it since as i understand it they make most of their money thru soundtrack sales/streaming, but kinda unfortch they spend SOOOO much time on the dance party at the end when they could've used that time to flesh out the actual movie a bit more
To me, the message for the first movie seems more to relate to not needing something to be happy (eating trolls in this case) and that you might just need to appreciate good things you already have (other people that want to be there for you in that case) even if other things go wrong rather than just trying to be happy. I love that the other trolls do end up accepting Branch's calmer and more grounded personality. The differences now are that he isn't putting up barriers and is generally in a better mood. I get that his side thing of him trying to confess might've been negligeable, but to fans this was really exciting because him and Poppy getting in a relationship was really hyped! Honestly his relationship with Poppy is still one of my favorite things about the franchise. We need more animated relationships this healthy and natural. Anyway, always glad to see people show appreciation to the movies❤
i sorta assumed they wanted to go for a 'happiness is within everyone' message, but it's just very hamfisted, condescending, and as stated in the video trivialises mental health. branch shouldn't have been beaten down by the other trolls in order for him to achieve it. the bergens shouldn't be depicted as monsters if they're trying to represent depressed people, and certainly shouldn't have been told to "just be happy"; counting your blessings won't help you much if you're clinically depressed. would've loved to explain my reasons and feeling but had to get on with the vid! thing is branch can put up barriers if he wants to, and he certainly shouldn't have his boundaries disrespected when he clearly sets them. and the problem the trolls had with him was portrayed as him being problematic, not the trolls having genuine concern for him (they literally mock him for being paranoid lol). i call the confession storyline negligible bc they don't really do much with it, not because i don't like it (the romance slowburn over the movies is a big draw of the relationship and wish i mentioned it) i would've liked to have seen them give branch's feelings more of a focus and made it an arc other than Something That Happens! t'was cute though and yesss trolls deserves it. thanks for the comment!
@@CharlesJThomas totally see your point of view, of course. If that's what they went for I do see what you mean. I don think it went for that message as well, I do see how it could have been done better. The movies aren't perfect of course, they have some flaws. Same for Branch. Almost all trolls did not treat him that nicely at first. Most don't seem to get that he doesn't like getting pile swarmed just because he doesn't say it (though he is obviously unconfortable)- And I get everything else!
I love the little detail of how Floyd encourages Crimp PRACTICING the ukelele.
Sir I appreciate someone besides me is able to call a troll hot. Floyd though is my jam
