a character and theme analysis on trolls 1, world tour and band together but mostly an excuse to gush about velvet and veneer (i still have so much more to say but it wasn't really relevant to what the video turned out to be... analysis to come later perhap)

  • for anyone interested in the rest of the hidden meanings in velvet and veneer's songs, I have a video for y'all kzhead.info-OvIf7rAT64 some of you wanted a velvet and veneer analysis vid, and while I'll get to work on a proper one sometime, I hope this suffices for now!

While most couples pull a 180 within a few scenes, Poppy and Branch go through various stages throughout each film. • Yess, specially since in the scene talked about in 14:15, you can read through a very subtle but really, reeeally good body language sequence of velvet running up through the corridor where she first looks worried and out of breath, finally finds veneer and has a shocked look in her face for about half a second, puts a hand in her chest and sighs in relief, to then start to trot calmly into his direction after seeing Veneer managed to catch Floyd This doesn't just show how much she was worried about losing her easy ticket to fame in my opinion, but that she's also legitimately glad at her brother in this scene. Pair the previous shock look she had half a second prior with the one time we see Velvet have a calm composure in what, the entire movie? And it does make me believe she didn't overhear their conversation at all

    • I can definitely see velvet as being the more dominant and protective sibling when they were young, and veneer being shyer and less confrontational. Maybe that bright blue and green *wasn't* actually his "true colors", and instead that's just what he looks like when ABSURDLY positive (like how the others get desaturated when absurdly depressed) and due to him being more naturally pessimistic, the more muted tones are his real true colors.

  • I really do like Velvet and Veneer, and I hope we do eventually see more of them even if its a cameo in the inevtiable Trolls 4. I like how instead of giving them some sad backstory they just went with a story of wanting to chase fame without putting in the work which feels like a realistic villain goals for a movie about singing. Velvet especially, everything about her character is so interesting. - The fact that she has a different singing and speaking VA (Amy Schumer speaking, Briana Mazzola singing), so her singing voice quite literally isn't her own voice (unliked Veneer who is voiced by Andrew Ranells who also did his songs). It adds a lot more to the scene where Veneer says that maybe they should just practice. - The fact that they quite literally sing a song about working for your talent/fame, without having done anything but steal talent themselves. - The line "All my talent, it doesn't grow on trees" is a direct reference to the fact that the pop trolls did come from trees. There's just so many details going into the character.

    @hp8167@hp81675 ай бұрын
    • And the small details of her PUMPING the perfume on while Veneer only did one pump at a time (from what I remember) really drives home that her singing voice/talent isn’t hers, and that Veneer’s natural talent is just enhanced. That and the fandom is starting to pick up pace with Brozone content before and after TBT. While it was out of nohwere and kinda stupid to randomly add brothers and a sister for Branch and Poppy respectively, I think it was kinda smart too since they gave the audience ideas on how their lives were like before they were separated. I'm not saying adding the variety of Trolls isn't a wise decision(kinda), but having family bonds makes it more relatable to see where their relationships were and will be after the events of the movie.

I loved having a rundown about the three movies, the plots, and especially the characters!! Really enjoyed taking 15 mins to hear about how this franchise has progressed! So wonderful, thanks for the video! 😄

  • I’m so happy that ppl are enjoying the movies finally. I’ve loved this franchise since even before the film came out. It always helped me through hard times. Also I really don’t think Trolls was about to ”stop being depressed, be happy” it was about overcoming trauma and finding happiness any way you can instead of just either hiding from the world or consuming things to escape it all. And that really helped by trolls came out when I ALSO lost a family member that caused a lot of trauma and depression. Branch had always been so relatable for me. Also I’m glad Branch stays a little dull bc trauma and depression doesn’t just go away like that. And we know this with Band Together where he still has more issues to deal with. Also although I’m not a Broppy fan, it’s such a good side plot throughout the series.

  • I'm a 39 year old male and I love these three films. There were a couple of things with Trolls: World Tour that I had an issue with though. The first is that Branch has black hair again after Cloud Guy narrates at the start of the film that he'd found his "true colours" at the end of the first film. They sort of seemed to have noted the criticism of this as he had black/purple hair in Band Together. The second was that in Branch's journey in the first film to rediscover happiness he'd always secretly loved Poppy and expressed his love for her when singing "True Colours" to her to return her to her natural colours, plus his as well. Throughout the second film however the subplot is that he can't find the courage to tell her that he loves her until the end when all of the Trolls reunite.

  • The weirdest part is the second trolls cartoon Trollstopia is pretty good. The extended cast they made for the show works pretty well, They even included Rock troll and country troll they made for the show in the second christmas special. So I do think as long as they remember Trolls works best with big dumb emotions and people dealing with them, often through song and dance the franchise might still grow. Also I mostly just like Val and Holly. For some reason giving Poppy two BFFs that come from different backgrounds just does so much for her as a character since she can interact with people that aren't just sugar high happy people.

  • I think its also fun how velvet and veneers names also reflect their purposes as villains. while theyre both finishes to different kinds of materials, you hear a lot more people talk about velvet and its a veyr popular texture when compared to veneer which, while very often used, less people on a general scale talk about it!

    @bs-us3to@bs-us3to5 ай бұрын
    • And Veneer can also mean “cover or disguise (someone or something’s true nature) with an attractive appearance.” This can both symbolize Velvet and Veneer hiding the fact that they were talentless and using Floyd by keeping up the appearance of pop stars. This can also symbolize Veneer’s true nature of not really wanting to be famous, but is just going along with what Velvet says.

  • Okay Velvet and Veneer are some of the best kid movie villains i’ve seen in the past couple of years. velvet is clearly bad with no want of turning to be good. she doesn’t get a redemption arc and it works. I like veneer who does get a redemption arc, but still admit he’s wrong and it’s OK with that. They also have a really good music and Im not ashamed to admit that I have been listening to watch me work and Mount Rageous for a couple of weeks now.

  • I think I fully agree with you. I did like the first more than the second. I thought the second had a way stronger story, but the emotional pay off at the end wasn’t there for me. This third one was so good. The only issue I had with it was that I wanted it longer. I wanted more time with the characters and more time to live with their flaws for a stronger redemption to their developed selves.

    @brandonroy7554@brandonroy75545 ай бұрын
    • agreeed. i understand why they chose to have it since as i understand it they make most of their money thru soundtrack sales/streaming, but kinda unfortch they spend SOOOO much time on the dance party at the end when they could've used that time to flesh out the actual movie a bit more

      @CharlesJThomas@CharlesJThomas5 ай бұрын
  • To me, the message for the first movie seems more to relate to not needing something to be happy (eating trolls in this case) and that you might just need to appreciate good things you already have (other people that want to be there for you in that case) even if other things go wrong rather than just trying to be happy. I love that the other trolls do end up accepting Branch's calmer and more grounded personality. The differences now are that he isn't putting up barriers and is generally in a better mood. I get that his side thing of him trying to confess might've been negligeable, but to fans this was really exciting because him and Poppy getting in a relationship was really hyped! Honestly his relationship with Poppy is still one of my favorite things about the franchise. We need more animated relationships this healthy and natural. Anyway, always glad to see people show appreciation to the movies❤

    • i sorta assumed they wanted to go for a 'happiness is within everyone' message, but it's just very hamfisted, condescending, and as stated in the video trivialises mental health. branch shouldn't have been beaten down by the other trolls in order for him to achieve it. the bergens shouldn't be depicted as monsters if they're trying to represent depressed people, and certainly shouldn't have been told to "just be happy"; counting your blessings won't help you much if you're clinically depressed. would've loved to explain my reasons and feeling but had to get on with the vid! thing is branch can put up barriers if he wants to, and he certainly shouldn't have his boundaries disrespected when he clearly sets them. and the problem the trolls had with him was portrayed as him being problematic, not the trolls having genuine concern for him (they literally mock him for being paranoid lol). i call the confession storyline negligible bc they don't really do much with it, not because i don't like it (the romance slowburn over the movies is a big draw of the relationship and wish i mentioned it) i would've liked to have seen them give branch's feelings more of a focus and made it an arc other than Something That Happens! t'was cute though and yesss trolls deserves it. thanks for the comment!

    • @@CharlesJThomas totally see your point of view, of course. If that's what they went for I do see what you mean. I don think it went for that message as well, I do see how it could have been done better. The movies aren't perfect of course, they have some flaws. Same for Branch. Almost all trolls did not treat him that nicely at first. Most don't seem to get that he doesn't like getting pile swarmed just because he doesn't say it (though he is obviously unconfortable)- And I get everything else!
