In this video we take a look at making the piston, piston fork, wrist pin, and Cylinder Screws for the Weaver, 1cc model airplane engine. these are all quite simple parts, and most of the difficult work is behind us on this engine. ll that is left is the Cylinder Head, Prop Driver, and Carburetor, then we get to start building the airplane to fly it on!

Nice job. The con rod to piston assembly is interesting. Way easier than trying to mill a deep slot inside the piston. Regards, Preso
great work ! 👍
Nice work. That piston fork looks like a great idea for preventing the gudgeon pin from scoring the cylinder. Did you lap the piston into the bore? I had to do it for a 1cc diesel I built. It was quite tedious. Is this a glow plug or diesel engine?
Thanks! the piston fork works good, if a little heavy, but no matter for a slow engine like this one. i polished the piston to size then lapped the cylinder seperately so the piston is a light press fit. this is originally designed as a diesel, but i'm converting it to glow. details here: kzhead.info/sun/gdSuZr5_oGqui58/bejne.html
Great Work!! never done a cast iron piston/cylinder. I know it works as my AM10 is made that way. I been using 12L14 steel for cylinders with good results. Thanks for sharing!
I've made one cylinder from steel and five from cast iron. The iron is considerably easier to lap.
Thanks! it's good to hear that 12l14 works for cylinders, i figured it would be too soft, maybe i'll use that for the next engine.
