stop using amen breaks (make your own instead)

definitely get why people use real old samples, but making your own is like you're sampling an old song from an alt universe!
plugins:
drum samples, delay, pitch shifting & saturation all stock Ableton plugins, your DAW should have its own equivilent versions! If you can't do the subtle pitch shifting, then bounce the sample out, and automate the pitch manually a tiny bit for the same effect.

  • That's a cool technique, but if somebody's looking for an amen sample, they probably want that exact sequence and punchiness to chop up.

    • That’s a fair point! the title was mostly meant to be tongue-in-cheek, I definitely still use amen breaks every now and then too

  • Technically you need acoustic instruments And from that building the groove, resampling it and chopping up

    • very true - it could actually be quite fun to try and recreate classic breaks as closely as possible!
