Power charge wouldn't have even mattered, even global damage would have only delated the hq cap for an extra turn
With the infantry there and the Bcopters possibly incoming (which the Missile could guard against! Technically) they might have had a chance to wallbreak and kill the last one, but yeah it almost certainly wouldn't have mattered, i doubt even a victory march could have done anything.

Yo Mangs!, you could have gotten your western B-Copter to the enemy Lab a Day sooner if you had used the Black Boat to block the SW enemy Anti-Air, and take a more direct route instead. I used that technique in my own game. You got lucky that your opponent didn't do a Day 2 quad drop on the island. Good luck getting back from that situation. Congrats on the Day 9 win. I was lucky enough to get the same result. This map has some absolutely nasty sharp lines that Player 2 or Player 1 can exploit to their benefit.

Besides the battleship you point out, Mrmoomoo395 could have also built rockets at the base south west of the lab. Would have been clearly inferior (baselock), but would have prevented cap.
The problem with that is that Mang's Copters can just fly in and wipe them out. The only thing that would stop him from doing that is to threaten the island with the northern Copters as well. Of course Mangs could always just respond with Fighters, Carriers, and the dreaded Lander + AA combo! This is why you can't afford to lose control of the island!
This is a map that I believe completely throws off the balance of high funds. Normally in high funds, powers charge so quickly that power focused COs are a bit higher tier and day to day COs get dropped to lower tiers, but on this map the initial battle for the island is so critical that day to day powers become better. I will go as far as to say that Lash would dominate against anyone in tier 4 including Adder, be favored in tier 3 and even hold her own in tier 2 on this map. I also think that not sending your black boat off of your lab to pick up infantry on day 1 is a mistake. In my game I even brought a mech to the island to get that little bit of extra firepower and defense for the island battle.
Yeah, the Player 1 Lash -> mech+3 inf to center island turn 3 opener is nuts, and the awkward shoal/harbor positioning pretty much leaves player 2 dead to rights. Player 1 can pretty much guarantee that Player 2 never caps the harbor, which in turn guarantees that Player 1 is the only one with lander access. The rest of the game is a romp.
You forgot to mention you stole the Day 1 Mech play from me, not that there is anything wrong with stealing good ideas.

Nice C&C: Tiberian Dawn music there Mangs, I can always count on you to have good taste! Only problem was I had to run off to the music playlists to confirm it wasn't Red Alert 1 or Tiberian Sun. I wouldn't have had to do that if you used Mechanical Man instead!

Oh. This is still on-going. I participated myself. I won my first match and but lost the 2nd match. The first match was kinda boring for me as my opponent wasnt very skilled. The 2nd opponent was really good though so I had a fierce and fun match. For this map, I didnt realize at the start it would turn into an island rush so I used Jess. My enemy also made the same mistake and used Jess too though lol. I got copters in the island first and I won. The side island battles are really a side priority here. Well, good luck Mangs. I look forward to the 2nd match. I lost in that match so I would like some tips there. I have a bad streak of winning the first match in tournaments but losing the 2nd match for all three tournaments I joined in. Standard, Fog and High Funds. Oof.

This is equivalent to the quick queen/bishop checkmate and your opponent couldn't recognize it until it was too late.

Yeah fool's mate you have to actively try for the loss, but it's funny how many people don't recognize they have mate with their queen when white starts off with 1. f3 2. g4
@@kurtmatteson4914 I just thought Fool's Mate felt more apt because the earliest wins came about because the opponents didn't realize that all the Labs and both Ports are on the island. You would have to be an utter fool to fail to notice that. Sadly those fools exist even within Division 1, examples being the opponents of Starflash and Warpuppy.

Quite happy I saw the same issue other dude made in regards to the centre. I was like "clearly a battleship with a good foothold just wins right?" Then 4 turns later "Boom!" battleship that wins the game. Great match!

I have been chill on the commentary, but I am going to try my hand at this: 1:36 Seen this player a few times in the Egg Cup. 2:10 I do agree that Adder is the best pick, but not for the reasons you mentioned. It does not feel like the fluid mixed base maps you see because there is limited scope for front shifting and maneuverability by ground units. As such, air units have an advantage here. Good news for you is that the airports are easy to reach early on. You need it. Koal being Adder lite is a nice touch, but on one set of islands, 2 contest properties have 2 adjacent roads. Snag a comm tower and those properties are there for you to take. Much preferred to Jake whose package here is a bit more dubious. 3:52 The centre island feels decisive, but if you just bring infantry there, I doubt they can do much by themselves vs your opposing infantry.By themselves, they can hold until your strong side overpowers the bases and then bring air units to come in. So you still need to defend your weak side bases a little bit. You could build B Copters early, but you need a plan early on to evade the AA if it ever comes out. (In hindsight, it was easy to do if you have a specific purpose for those B Copter) 5:30 Because your strongside only has a difference of 1 airport, so your infantry build up will be very slow, and the distance is a bit large to cover. 5:35 I am guessing Moo wanted to grab more properties earlier on and then lump 2 infantry into the centre rather than one? It does leave one property uncaptured for a bit longer than It should though. 7:33 Opening two tanks on strong side, I think he is impatient for some action by deploying them there, or he is not as confident of warding off AA just yet. 8:05 Ah, you got the plan now. Notice on his turn that he is now forced to build 2 AA cos the B Copters will get there too slowly to operate offensively, so here is the power of initiative. 10:32 It will threaten next turn, for now it is providing token cover, followed up by 2 Mangs infantry moments. That is definitely the you I see there. Got lucky that your opponent is not in a good position to respond immediately. 11:17 It may be strong side vs weak side, but this feels like a risky move. I don’t see much coordination other than a simple tank chain. 11:30 He kind of have to do it this way, otherwise he has to build a second AA. His SE island northern side is a bit open. 12:15 Ahh battleships in HF. With Moo’s passive play you can easily afford this. 13:10 Two AAs on NE island, feels a bit sus, but lucky you you have two tanks to offer some defence and your opponent’s sus BCopter play there gives some room for you. Also their infantry is a bit out of position. 13:30 I think your opponent is planning to overrun the weak side here for unfettered B Copter access. Normally ok, but Moo is not respecting the strategic map state here. 14:36 Simply a gigachad move there. No comments. Izanagi is a much stronger opponent. This one felt like you knew what the map is about and your opponent didn't respect map state.

I am in this tournament too. Some how i manage to get to the thrid round. And since i get a Javier vs Grit machup, It look like I have chances to get to the final of my bracket.
This map is super cheesable by p1 by skipping almost all your cities and just diving into the center. If your opponent doesnt match, they lose the center and both ports, leading to bship dominance and an uncounterable swarm of boats. If they do match it, theyre 1 turn too slow to land on the center properties. Arguably Sami or Lash are the only viable picks.
The only way I can think of a more BM move at the end would be to build transports instead of missiles, one could argue they could shoot down enemy aircraft on this map.
BM or not, if he couldn't tell what you were planning, that's on him. I mean, I'm not even close to anything resembling an AW expert, and my first thought when you said it was high funds was "Mangs is gonna make a beeline for the middle island and start cranking out battleships."
Koal isn't the best choice on this map, hell even Adder is sub optimal. Lash is the clear best choice thanks to better Infantry (and Mech!) combat on the central island, doubly so if she lands first since the 2nd player doesn't want to fight into boosted Lash Infantry or Mechs. Player 1 can even fight into the dreaded quad landing from Player 2 thanks to her strength.
I spectated your game and it was absolutely nuts. I might go so far as to suspect there's no counterplay at all from Player 2; your 3 inf + mech turn 3 opening seems like it ought to guarantee a P1 win. Were I to tweak this map, I'd add a P1 rocket to the ocean two tiles west of the central island's northern forest and a P2 rocket two tiles east of the southern forest. It'd shape some of the corner conflict a bit, but it'd be so vulnerable to mid-game bcopters that I don't think it'd really change that much past turn ~10. It'd definitely slow the early game down in a healthy way, though.
@@derekrocco4344 It was an Infantry and a Mech landing on Day 2. Waiting until Day 3 risks Player 2 pulling off a quad drop that winds up taking all the best land and putting Player 1 in an untenable position.

Starflash won on this map in a mere 4 days by going super hard asap on the center island.
Apparently his opponent didn't realize that he had only the one Lab. Starflash got lucky there. In comparison I had to work for the Day 9 win.

Mangs I have a question. I've been playing andaron saga recently but What does apprehension do when Colter and rodd get an a support with each other I never get this far to know I get stuck way to often between chapters (and your fe stream recaps are always fun to watch and your content is a blast)

@@naberiusbuster3489 not just sharp lines.. take gloomforged a map with an island with 6 properties but because its high funds its 12k for you and you also deny 12 k from your opponent, so its a juicy investment to fight for. but this map not only has your only hq but also has 2 neutral ports?? might has well put 4 more airports on the island XD. look at talose vs allcap game
