      @Akillesursinne@Akillesursinne28 күн бұрын
    • @@Akillesursinne Skill can beat talent, but not always nor often. The explanation for what happened to you is puberty messing you up (I'm in the same boat, my voice has like 40% the range it used to). There's a reason in old times they castrated talented opera singing boys. (So their voices don't change upon growing up, cuz no balls = no testosterone = no male puberty = no voice change) To explain what I mean by talent, let's consider skill something quantifiable. Let's say regular people start with around 0 to 5 in a skill. A talented person in the other hand starts with around 10 to 50 in that skill. So sure, with enough training an untalented one can catch up to a talented one, but the talented ones also train, so they would be even more skillful with the same amount of time spent training (unless the untalented one in question is a fast learner, is fast learning a talent? too many variables) Sorry for all the yapping. Got too inspired.

  • Excellent advice! I only wish I could have stumbled upon this years ago! Knowing how it should FEEL to sing properly is such a crucial first step. I didn't understand it until much later in my journey and I found myself having to unlearn so many bad habits. Having your body be relaxed around your throat/neck/chords is the only way to truly get your resonances going. One other thing to realize when your just starting to exercise your singing muscles, don't expect to lift the biggest weight in the gym on your first week. Slowly work your way up to extending your range once you have the basics down. Do that and you won't waste years like I did. Good luck, all!

With that one tip you've just given my voice has improved dramatically. I have a pretty wide range (b2 to c5 in full voice) and when I write songs for myself it's always a pain to know what key to put them in as I can sing all over the place, this has just oddly enough unlocked quite a few doors for me. Cheers dude.

  • Hey Adam. I've been learning singing a little bit on my own for a couple of years, playing guitar as well. I started doing scales, figured out my range, experimenting with some songs. I felt some pain in the vocal cord several times and never really found that my singing sounded any good. Now this video popped on my youtube feed today. I was very sceptic about your title. Then I watched it while having my breakfast. I didn't think much of it but started doing your little "relax/no strain feeling" exercise. I then carried on doing scales with that technique, focusing on the vocal cords feeling strain free. I then tried an easy Beatles song, love me do (changing the pitch to match mine). Man, first time I felt I sounded good ! All that to say, this video did actually REALLY made me sing better INSTANTLY. Something clicked ! Thank you very much, all the best to you !

  • This was incredibly helpful and insightful. I had been trying to sing along to Attention by Charlie Puth. And even though it's right within my range, I was straining those notes all the time. So I decided to try Otherside by RHCP instead (I used the same song in this exercise) and I was still straining a lot. With this video, I could really find the sweet spot for my own voice and understand that I was trying too hard to sound like Anthony Kiedis and Charlie Puth themselves. But even though my register isn't low, my tone has an intense low-end. Now I feel like giving those 2 songs another spin!

I feel like despite singing for such a long time my voice still sounds like someone who's only singing for like a year or two. I don't know maybe it's because I haven't had any professional training or lessons but I feel like my progress is very slow. I want to pursue a career in music singing but I feel my voice is too basic to even call myself a singer. Although I'm very passionate about singing and I sing everyday, I feel like my effort isn't reflected and it is quite frustrating.

    • don’t ever doubt yourself, you might think your voice is basic but to others-it could sound magical. don’t ever let procrastination or doubts hold you back from pursuing your dreams. when you want something in this life, youve got to hold onto it.

    • Look at this dude he used to sound horrible and now he’s good! Hardwork pays off push yourself, especially if you have no natural talent means you gotta outwork the talented people

    • Jesus man don't sell yourself short! at the very least try singing in your local choir like a community college or church. You would get a ton of help from peers and teachers.

  • This video made me realize that I've not only never been able to sing due to vocal strain, but that I just in general have never really spoken or breathed without some form of pain in my body. It might just be due to my poor constitution, but breathing in an of itself is a straining thing for me, so learning that I needed to have a relaxed throat and voice when I sing was definitely a bit of a news flash. Although I don't trust that I can fully learn how to sing with my poor adaptation rate, your tutorial was at least able to inform me of information that's been bothering me for a long portion of my life, so thanks for that! It was decently informative and encouraging.

  • It's weird. In my teens and into my 20s, I was a decent singer. Was in the HS choir, and used to get compliments at Karaoke bars. Then I stopped singing for, 10-15 years. And I've completely forgotten how? My voice sounds terrible and strained, and I'm pitch deaf.

  • Thanks Adam, I wanna learn to sing and found this vid - I can't put my dear neighbours through this so thought of practising in the car. One day I'd like to sing karaoki but don't have the confidence yet. Does confidence grow as I practise and polish up my singing voice?

    • you have to sing with your heart, don't be shy. If you're shy it doesn't matter if your voice is good, no one's gonna hear it anyway!

    • I love to sing, always been shy. After a bad break up, I used to get super drunk at the local karaoke bar, until finally I could get up to sing. The more I got on stage to sing, the less alcohol I needed. Now I can sing in front of people no problem. I'm not a great singer by any means, but confidence comes with practice. (Though I don't suggest killing your liver like I did to get there!)

    • Start singing around people you're comfortable with e.g friends, family.. even just in the car along to the radio and build from there, it's always scary at first but you've gotta push through
