Bedard did great for his first NHL game ever. He had like 11 shot attempts, 6 shots on goal, and picked up an assist. He showed poise when carrying the puck through the neutral zone, and he put the penguins defense on alert when he was in the offensive zone. Anybody that says that he wasn’t noticeable and didn’t do much just doesn’t know hockey. The kid had a great first game and he helped the hawks start off the season with a nice win.
Bedard is 18, most 18 year old NHL players don't make much of an impact (but he probably will). Everyone is either judging or praising everything he does. Just chill and let the kid play without micro analyzing everything he does *Side note, he didn't ask for this attention, just like Mcdavid and Crosby didn't. Everyone else is the ones putting the hype on him
Anyone who says anything bad about Bedard after this game is reaching a bit honestly. No, he is not going to score on an 82 goal pace (shocking I know). Results on the stat sheet don't always indicate how well someone is playing. Almost everyone one of his shifts, he was generating something in the offensive zone. He will need to work on faceoffs, but that was always going to be a given. Rookies usually struggle at the dot.
It’s natural for this to happen to a first overall, is there extra hype beyond normal for Bedard? Yes. But to act like everyone’s gonna leave this guy alone and not think much of him when he was drafted 1st overall.. bud
well Matthews got 4 his first night. Not looking good. he might be a late bloomer but he didnt really have any impact in this game. think its gonna take him awhile. I see a 20 goal season.

Not actually. The Blackhawks have had a good record for the strangest of reasons over the Pens the last 10 seasons or so. And it makes no sense. Chicago has a much worse record against even some of the losing clubs in that time frame. Duncan Keith was once asked that question. He said it has to do with the particular time of a season when they meet. Catch them at the right or wrong time. 2 clubs played each other twice in outdoor classics and split. Should do it again.

As a Pens fan ( I like Chicago as well , so not a hater ) I have to admit my heart sinks every time I see Jarry in the net...we have NEVER been the same since we lost Fluery to the Knights. Giving up 3 goals in the third is just sickening and just like last season.
Feels bad to see people blame Jarry for this loss when the penguins were just getting ran over up and down the ice. Honestly pens defense was just weak

We gave up two goals in the third, and neither of them were on Jarry at all. Learn the game. Our offense couldn’t finish, and Jarry had over a 91% save

Well, you are not going to win many games giving up 40 shots unless of course you can get 36 yourself and your goalie is a tad better. Chicago has had goaltender injuries and issues the last 5 seasons. It is their team defense that has to improve. One very good stat for them was only 2 penalties and no PPGs given up. Will not happen enough.
