This week we take a step away from our weekly story and flash back in time to a vlog that we release to our Patreons a few weeks ago. It's a great opportunity for us to share with you one of our favourite travel vlogs from our US road trip series.

Sequoia NP is home to the worlds biggest trees, and it is spectacular. Come join us on this last little adventure, because next week it's all change in the Newby house, with a new addition almost certainly making an appearance.
We are the Newbys, John, Tara, and our two little boys Crusoe and Sawyer. We’re a family who are pursuing an alternative lifestyle, and after two years of full time travel we’ve taken root on an abandoned farm in Northern Portugal which we’re renovating into our dream off-grid homestead. We release new videos every Sunday sharing our story, and we’d love for you to be a part of it with us. While living in California, I visited the trees, and honestly has been the most humbling experience ever. They are utterly magnificent. No video does them justice.

There used to be, if it was actually a real tree, but it was my favorite exhibit to see at the Michigan State Fair! It was a sequoia tree sideways built into a tiny home…entrance one side, exit the other…had a living space, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen…I think that was the start for my love of RV’s & tiny homes!!
Hello Newby's... did you get the feeling that you were just tiny creatures in the big world of Mother Nature. There is/was another drive thru tree called the Chandelier Tree. We in the US that a conservation effort was put forth to prevent anymore lumbering of the sequoias somewhere around 1850. Because of the natural properties of the trees, they were perfect for ship building and I believe they are bug and water resistant. I think Caruso gets mesmerized by the rhythm of John's pace. It's a great idea to parcel out your videos near the end of your pregnancy. Praying that all goes well... see you next week. 👼👼👼.

Haha that was unexpected! I can't help it, but the combo of mystic ancient Sequoia and the super saccarine retro add and that editing stunt felt a tad Lynchian to me. (I'm a fan, obviously, so it was as entertaining as it was unexpected lol) 😂 I'd love to see those trees one day. I've seen the redwoods up the hill from Berkley CA where my dad lived, and some really big ones too, but never ones as old as this, and no snow around either. I adore ancient trees. The oldest I've seen have been ancient olives and Bodhi trees. I'm always stunned in the presence of such trees, knowing the ages they've survived, all the animals and heartache, lovers and children, wars, natural disasters, shamans, pilgrims, elders and the lives of peace-loving indiginous peoples long ago that wizely valued them as sentient beings. The neolithic era was so long ago, 4000 years ago is considered the dawn of a more drastic change to the earth due to more advanced forms of farming, hunting and development of dwellings, society, villeages. It changed the earth forever and has continued to do so since then. But right there in those parts, nature remained less infringed upon. For a very long time too. I suppose that may have been key to longevity, strong foundations with little interference. I'm curious why I saw no birds or tracks or signs of wildlife in the video... Perhaps too much traffic? Or due to the fires? Wildlife is everywhere here, in the woods just 10min out of the capital, even parks within it, so it struck me as strange. A bit eerie even. Thank you for bringing us along! PLEASE don't feel pressured to put out a video on schedule now! You concentrate on your birthing a new baby. Nobody's expecting you to expose your inner sanctity, your experience or newborn child at any point andnof any sort besides when you are ready to and what you really want to. It's important you understand this, and don't rush these those descisions or spend energy thinking about YT and followers. We're here to see whatever you share in your own time. Godspeed to you and hugs for little Crusoe who's life is going to change in ways he cannot know. Love from Sweden! ❤️

There is something majestic about a tree and "the Sequoias are no exception. We went through the northern redwood forest in CA and felt like extras on Star Wars! Cathedral Grove on Van- ouver Island,BC is another jaw dropping sight with old pics of about eight people stretching out their arms hugging the huge Douglas Firs! Vancouver Island is one of the loveliest places in the world and worth a Newby exploration! Cheers from Penticton,Canada

I grew up near Sequoia National Park and actually worked on the trails as part of the Park Service trail crew back when I first got home from the Army in 1969. It was nice seeing it again 🤗

I totally agree! The Blue Mountains not far from Sydney and the Jenolan caves there too (truly spectacular!) I hope that you will be able to go there one day! There are so many wonderful places to go to in Australia! I loved WA (beautiful beaches!) and Queensland (rainforests and national parks!) too! Such a lot to choose from! 👍😃😘

Born and raised in California has its perks. A absolutely beautiful state with so much to see. This video reminds me of when my family lived in Petaluma ,calif. We use to go to Muir forest and hike . Sonoma county is beautiful . Thank you for sharing , I so enjoyed .
